Personal Narrative: My College Transfer Success
The past three chapters of the College Transfer Success textbook explained how to effectively assess my knowledge of college, my career options, and myself. I have learned which college fits me best and what kind of job would suit my talents and needs. In order to discover these things, I needed to explore myself. This paper will explain my choices and how I came to my decisions. I needed to decide on what kind of job I would enjoy as well as be skilled at. I love helping people and working closely with people, so I decided that a regular office job would not suit me. I need something to challenge me and hold my interest. My academic strong suits are science and math; it would be best if I chose a career that is science and math oriented. To help with the decision, I took the True Colors personality test. My results were Green, for my dominant color, and Blue and Orange were tied as my secondary color. My dominant color, Green, implies that I am analytical, abstract, curious and a complex thinker. My secondary colors, Blue and Orange, signify that I embody traits such as being energetic, hands on, nurturing, and honest. …show more content…
A basic definition of college culture is the unwritten rules of a specific school; it is what happens outside of the classroom. I evaluated my values and social aspects to help decide which college is best for me. Having narrowed down my options even more, I became torn between a few colleges. Using the section in the College Transfer success textbook about decision making, I made a pros and cons list to help me pick between a few colleges. I always wanted to go to college growing up, but because of my family, along with my sisters and myself, were born and raised in a refugee camp in Nepal, I had a feeling that college was a dream that would not come true for me. In 2012, we came to Salt Lake City, Utah. The school I did was from 9th grade. After resettlement in the United States, my parents are still struggling to look after the educational future of me and my sisters. My family said if I could find a way to pay for college. I began to apply for many scholarships, which would help to fulfill my dream and desire.…

Part of the activities I enjoy are playing music; which can explain to people to learn more about Christ and how they can help serve others just as Christ would have done to them. Technology and video games have been a tremendous part of my life. My goal in college is to get into computer science and to learn how to design games and produce code. I can utilize the amount of the money that I earn and donate it to special organizations; for example, charity; and I can also donate the money to special places, for instance, churches, and consequently they can build a larger and improved church. It was the morning of move in day. I said goodbye to my home and headed out. I passed the local shopping market and my high school where I enjoyed a fun four years. As I headed to Norman I realized I was leaving everything I had ever known. All my life has consisted of living in the same house, going to school with the same kids, and going to the same supermarkets and restaurants. While I’d like to say I have developed a good idea of the world around me by visiting so many cities around the United States, in reality the only world I’ve ever known is the same one I have spent my whole life in. I have loved growing up in Northwest Oklahoma City with the friends that have helped shaped me into who I am today, however I relished the opportunity…

The new community college for full-time students will not provide a degree in all areas, “All first-year students would be required to take a predetermined core curriculum and would then be limited to their choice of about 12 majors” (Moltz, 2009). The majors that were proposed will be in pre-career fields, which will be designed to assist students with transferability. The transferability requirements to four-year institutions have increased throughout the years and it is important that the two-year college focuses on making sure that student are academically on track to transfer. At times, community college students do not complete a bachelor’s due to the lack of preparation for what is expected of them once they transfer. The curriculum proposed requires full time enrollment and taking more than 12 units per semester, which will prepare students for a better transition to a four-year…

It was the day that I was dreading all week. It was the day my brother was leaving for college. Since the day i was born me and my older brother have been really close. We liked the same things, hung out with the same people, and played on the same sports teams. We did everything together. As time went on nothing really changed even through high school we were still really close. The day he was leaving for college I was at my friends house and didn’t want to go home until the minute he was leaving. I didn’t want to see him until he left because i knew it was going to be hard for me to watch him leave so i figured if i didn’t see him until he said bye it wouldn’t be as bad. Another part of me also didn’t want to show him weakness, that i was…

Hi Mom and Dad! How have you been doing? Sorry i haven't been able to write to you in a while, I've been so busy with school. I was really nervous about going to college so far away from here I love Aurora College. I was really surprised with how cold it is in Inuvik, NT but I guess it makes sense considering i’m in the Southern Arctic ecozone. Around here the average temperature is -28°C in the winter and 10℃ in the summer which really sucks since the winters are really long and summers are short. There is a lot of things to do here like skiing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. I learned that the southern arctic was once covered with glacier, but when they moved south, they carried rocks and earth with them and scraped the land and that's why…

Kids today don’t know where they would love to go after high school. I feel it takes tactical time to find what you’re enthralled in because there’s more things going on, and my advice for people that are trying to find the right colleges is to take your time, not worrying about others opinions, and go from your heart. The amount of time spent with college kids takes up their time by studying, attending classes on time, and what they want to be in the future. Studying helps kids improve their concentration, judgment, thoughts, and with their catalyst. Attending classes is essentially important by not being late for school or your job, young adults will always want to be there on time. It is always great to find your path of what you want to be, and never give up on it, always challenge yourself to be the best than anyone…

When I contemplated my decision to transfer to the University of Alabama or continue my schooling at Valley City State University there were many aspects to consider. An important aspect was the size of the universities. Based on research I did my junior year in high school I knew that the UA enrolled about 30,000 students a year which would not be the best fit for me because I like the one on one that a small university would provide. Alexis, my cousin who I am very close with, attended Mayville State University and then transferred to the University of Minnesota after her first year. She said that the small class sizes at MSU was ideal because the campus was small and she was able to walk across campus in under five minutes and she never…

Somewhere along Interstate 95 south, I had my movie moment. At 2:00 AM nothing matters but sleep. So when a friend of mine shook me awake as our coach bus “La Cubana” passed through Washington D.C, my mind was elsewhere. Until I opened my eyes, my body was filled with instant annoyance at her. The moment I did open them though, I was greeted by my peer’s awestruck faces at the sight that lay before them. The air around me had suddenly transformed to remedy making me whole. I had never been to Washington D.C.; just seen pictures online or in history textbooks. But being there and seeing how grand and beautiful the Washington and Jefferson Memorial were took my breath away.…

When I first started my college education, I never would have thought that I would be where I am today. I transferred over to Temple University the spring semester of my freshmen year of college. I remember how frustrating those first couple month were for me as a college freshman. I had to adjust to a lot of new changes such as, a new campus, new people, new courses etc. I struggled a lot that semester but made through it with the help of the great professors and advisor. There were always great resources available to me no matter what needed. From then on I learned to manage my time and I knew how much work I had to put in to reach my goals. The next three undergraduate years were tough due to the rigorous coursework but I was able to…
