The team sport that interests me a lot is track and field because when I was a little girl I joined the sport, and became a great runner. Track and Field are very competitive, but to me, it is a fun sport to act like a horse. The reason I say that is because when I was younger, I would always watch horses, and I would say, “ Only if I was a horse one day.” So I feel like a horse racing to the finish line, and winning so I could be known as the “ greatest runner.” When I see myself at as a horse I feel, so free running in the wind. Track and Field give me a really awesome feeling when I start to run because running feels like real you are able to do anything.…
Athletics is ingrained in the human experience and is an integral part of American culture. Because of that, many of my weekends and after school hours have been dedicated to either watching a game or starting one with the kids in the neighborhood. Athletics runs deep in my family. My great uncle was a professional baseball player and my family, including my father, three brothers and a sister, are all very involved with the various team sports. It’s this immersion into various sporting activities that has led me to the understanding that engaging in athletics has a very positive impact in our lives. Additionally, sports are extremely important in building one’s character through hard work, learning to work with others on a team and by learning how to cope with the joy of winning and the inevitability of losing.…
John Wooden (NCAAB Hall of Fame coach) said, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” High school sports are usually beneficial to all parties involved, such as the athletes, parents and the schools that have the athletic programs. The athletes that play high school sports learn countless lessons on life, how to be healthy with exercise, and the extra incentive to keep up the grade to play these sports. Parents of high school athlete’s get an opportunity to watch their child succeed at something he or she loves. Parents can also benefit financially, when their child is good enough at a sport to get offered a scholarship which may pay for all of college. For a high school that has athletic programs the biggest pro is the amount of money to be made from things such as admissions, concessions stand sells, t-shirts…
The issue of high school athletics and the role that they play in the lives of student athletes has been a heavily debated topic throughout the last few decades. I myself participated in high school sporting activities, and for me, athletics had a major impact on my life during those four years. This continues to be a relevant topic as extracurricular athletic activities have seen an increase in their popularity and participation in recent years (Howard, 2009). The positive and negative effects that high school athletics have on young adults are a continually heated topic within the population today (Troutman, Dufur, 2007). I believe this is a perfect time to conduct research of my own to help better understand this issue. Anyone currently participating in…
My freshman year, I decided to join my high school Cross Country team. When I started running, it quickly became clear that I was not a gifted athlete. I was slow and often did not enjoy the sport. When the season first started, it took me forty minutes to run a 5k. This time was appalling but oddly, it was what kept me from giving up. There were times when I wanted to quit and go back to never running but the thought of that forty-minute 5k stopped me from doing so. I stayed on the team and pushed myself harder and harder every day. When I felt like stopping, I made myself go even further. I came to practice every single day and sometimes I stayed late. On the days that we did not have practice as a team, I ran on my own. I was dedicated…
High school football is more than just a sport. It is something for people to build character, and develop values to help them in life. While I have been a Patriot, Tiger, Ram, and Pirate, I have always been myself and contributed long hours in practice for the success of my teams. I will work with all of my might, and muster the knowledge that I have acquired from playing football, to ensure my success. I have learned valuable life lessons in football that have helped develop into a finer man which otherwise I would not have…
I sat there, riding home from a football game finding myself spacing off thinking about basketball. basketball is starting soon and i cant help thinking about getting to play varsity. I miss the smell of the gym right before a basketball game and the feel of the basketball grooves. I actually kind of miss the bad tasting water from the school water fountain. One thing that I miss the most about basketball is the feeling of trying your hardest and succeeding at it.…
When you don’t feel well, you go to the doctors, and at the doctors, they tell you what's wrong. But what if they can't? For over three years, doctors haven't been able to find what my mysterious condition was.…
To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. Because of this, I have developed a deep insight of the components necessary to be a true Pentathlete. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. With this, one like myself could ultimately…
As far as I can remember I might have been about 4 or 5 at the time and my mother registered us I mean herself and me in a gym for ding exercises in different sport majors . My mother had aerobic class and I joined gymnastic class with other girls in my age and I had a nice dress for it with a pale pink color with an veil skirt. I had a friend there who her name is Mozhde and our characters were really far from each other . We were always fighting together because of her arrogance . Although I was totally kind and humble she was proud and rough.…
I’ve always tried to be very involved in my school. I’m a member of almost every club, but my heart lies with my cross country team. While I didn’t always enjoy running in the grueling heat, it taught me about teamwork, dedication, and endurance. More often than not, my coach would be chuckling at me because I was trying to push a fellow teammate that wanted to walk. I made it my personal goal to push my teammates and help them do their best. My team got region champions in 2010 and this past season. Needless to say, we made our coach very proud.…
My experience so far with athletic training has been great overall. It’s very interesting and something I can see myself doing. I helped in the training room four separate times, and got to know a few people while I was down there. I went to Football practice once or twice, watched multiple people wrap ankles/wrists, and watched one of the doctors there work with a few athletes. The last day I was there was during the recent evacuation, I got to know some of the other level 1’s and 2’s while we were waiting for practice, and during the evacuation itself. I am very observant, and learn well that way, so I have gained at least beginner knowledge on wrapping, and what my expectation are if I am accepted into the program. Football practice was…
I don’t have the pleasure of remembering sports I played as a child or teenager, but I do know the profound impact sports have had on my adult life. I was struggling to reconnect with who I was when I was younger. Many ways were suggested on how I should go about this, but my favorite suggestion came from my family. They showed me many pictures and videos of me playing sports, horsing around with team mates, and holding trophies or awards. In every shred of those digital memories, there was an unmistakable happiness in my eyes, and in my smile. This immediately drew me in. From that moment on I immersed myself in reinvigorating my once prominent passion for sports. I went and talked with old coaches on mine, as well as old team mates to see if they could give me any information on how what type of athlete I once was. It was astonishing to hear how much passion I had for something, that was no…
I was at Muskegon Catholic High School playing a scrimmage for football. I was on defense playing the corner back position. The ball was snapped, the running back ran right and I ran towards him. I lowered my body, it was going to be a perfect tackle. I almost had him.…
physically gifted they may bepropositioned me. He bet me that he could either strike me out or force an out. This was a bold maneuver. Vincent knew I would not turn him down. Deciding to let him win in front of the parents, or shatter his confidence was tough. The entire team went out onto the field knowing that I would hit the ball for the reason that it was impossible to strike me out. I let him throw the first strike, and swung and missed on the second pitch. The parents joined in the action and cheered him on, with the hopes of seeing an elementary school kid strike out a high school baseball player. I came to the realization that I have much more to give than allowing Vincent to strike me out just to make the onlookers happy. I hit the…
