It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…

Jackie Robinson once said “This ain't fun but watch me get it done”. I had always been at a small school my entire life until seventh grade, when I decided to change schools. I was the new kid, and I didn’t know anyone, and nobody knew me, but I made friends in that two years of middle school. I had never been through a transition like that in my entire life, but when I am older I can look back on it and say that I did it.…

My experience in Junior High started the summer right after sixth grade, before seventh grade even started. That summer I was part of the Hoosier Hills Pact program, the program was made to help students with the transition between elementary and Junior High. In the program I spent every wednesday at the school with Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Long, and some other students whose names I can’t remember. Every once and awhile we would take a field trip somewhere to get to know each other better and other times we would be talking about what we would need to know for future years. When we had free time we would sometimes go down to the lower gymnasium and play games using a parachute and just have fun. The Pact program really made…

It was Tuesday, March first, 2011, my mother woke me up so I can start getting ready for school. I rose with eager anticipation, just four more days until my thirteenth birthday and I just couldn’t wait. I brushed my teeth and hurried down to eat the complimentary breakfast offered to us by the hotel we were staying at. You see we had been staying at a hotel for the past five months because the home we had been renting was foreclosed on so the utility companies turned off the power and the electricity. We had to get down at just the right time so that there was a small crowd but a lot of food so that we can take food back to the room to save for dinner. After breakfast, we…

It was two in the morning. I got out of bed, running on three hours of sleep. I ran downstairs after getting ready for a long bus ride. I saw my mom and grandpa waiting downstairs, as my grandpa was going on the trip with me. When at the school, teachers checked our bags, kind of like the airport. After this check, we were off (well, about an hour later). Now it was off on our new home for the next 12 hours. For the first three hours, everyone slept. It was boring and I will skip that. We then pulled over for our breakfast stop. When we stopped, the teachers passed out our boxes of bagels. We proceeded to get back on the road next, which was a rather long time. About four hours of driving through Ohio farms and Pennsylvania hills,…

All throughout school I strived to be a great student, always trying my best and never giving up. I didn’t really have any life changing moments that shaped me into who I am today that is, until freshman year. That year everything changed for me I was faced with challenges I never had to face before. My brother and I are three in a half years apart and he went to Horizon High School for his freshman and sophomore year. He was a troublemaker to say the least didn’t have the best reputation so all the teachers there thought that I was just like him. When I started there no one really knew my name and then once they saw my last name they started to be rude to me and say rude things to me. Even when I did good on work I still got a bad grade just because the…

In a black Nissan car a girl and her mom sat, supposedly talking, “Mom, I’m going to make a fool of myself, can’t I just go to my old school?” I pleaded my mom. “Don’t say that you’re going to make lots of new friends. Just try in out” my mom replied to my pleading. I had come to west middle after going to a private school for six years and I was very nervous.…

I returned back from vacation this week and it was nice to see all the children’s smiling faces. The parent’s express how they missed me as well as their children. This makes me love my job even more. This week there was a two year old child who had a seizure at the center; this was scary for the children, staff, as well I. 911 had to be called out to the center. We all have had CPR and first aid training so we were comfortable with handling the case until the ambulance reached us. However, we were not so prepared when the child stopped breathing. This was a learning experience, but I do not want to do it again. I want all my children safe and happy. I had to ride with the child to the hospital till her mother was reached and notified what…

It’s a bler, trying to look back on when I was a preschooler, so first grade was a mess. First grade is a life changer. Going to Tri-Point in Piper City not even for a full year. Tri-Point is a small old school just like ROWVA. I remember changing schools because my parents got a divorce. We moved to Peoria and lived there with my mom's parents. I got transferred to a Catholic school. Every Wednesday the whole place went to church right across the street. It was the worst thing ever sitting in the old creepy church listening the Father talk about only “God” knows what. My teacher's name was Mrs. Heartstick, no I did not make the name up. She grossed me out. He hands very dry and cracked, they looked like an old man's hands who had worked his whole…

Fall trips is a time to get together with old friends and meet new ones. It is a time to be unified as a grade. 8th grade went to Kőzeg, and we had an amazing time. We went on zip-lines towering over the forests. We also went canoeing and did team-building exercises. But the most unforgettable experience of them all was going to the SOS children's village. Most of these children have a horrible past. But the point of going there was not just to talk about their harsh childhood, it was to have fun with them and let their worries float away for a couple days. 8th grade had a blast zip-lining while, at the same time, getting to know them well. I am so happy we got to spend four days with these kids, who, we quickly learned, we share more similarities…

In my 8th grade year of school I struggle a lot on it, well I didn’t really struggle I mostly didn’t want to do the work until the last minute. I would give my tutor a hard time but she never gave up but I never wanted to do my work and when I did it would be the night before or it would’ve been in my class trying to do it as fast as I can. What I would do is always hang out with my friends and when and not do it but when I would do it then it was when my friends weren’t around. When it got down to the last quarter it was on the last day that anyone was able to turn in late work so they can walk the stage but that same day I got late and got in school suspension and I got mad because i didn’t think that I would cross because I had that thing…

When I was in my second year of middle school, around 1990, I began to feel miserable about life. Everything begun in school, some kids liked to bother me with offending words, insults, and then, after a while, physical aggression. I was always a very friendly and smiling child, but having to deal with the new circumstances made me a sad and depressed person, diminishing my joy of living.…

Do you remember your own experiences in middle school? All the different stages that changed as you grow up from a middle childhood to early adolescence. At this particular time in your life you endure changes in your body, finding a common ground with in the social circle of your peers, and understanding all the emotions that evolve. In my own experience in middle school I found it to be unforgettable. Therefore, I wanted my podcast to touch base on the early adolescence stage of life. The podcast on middle school was presented on The American Life from Wbez. The whole podcast started with a 14-year old named Annie. She emailed the radio station asking if they can discuss more about middle school. In her email she explains the reasons why…
