Personal Narrative: Moving To A Small City Girl
Forever a city girl
Being a big city girl and moving to a small city was something I never knew I would do in my life time. Not that I’m allergic to small cities but I was born and raised in one the best cities in the world and moving from here was never the plan. Let’s be honest would you choose a town that many haven’t heard of over a city that many travel to see? In one hand there is Las Vegas, Nevada which is known as the city that never sleeps, full of lights, and with plenty to see. On the other hand is Clinton, Oklahoma, a town that most don’t even know exists well, at least I didn’t until I lived there. That experience is why I will never live in a small city again.
Las Vegas is a city with timeless excitement and more than enough opportunities to live out your happiest dreams and desires. Everything you could ever want is likely to be a few minutes away. Being a city that never sleeps, it’s a good thing that everything is open 24 hours a day. With about 700,000 people living in Vegas there are also plenty of activities to do .This city is made for everyone and anyone. The availability of resources that come with living in a big city

Although people in Clinton like to end their days earlier. You’ll find the same rebellious type kids in both because in Vegas they just want to have fun and in Clinton there isn’t much to do but get into trouble. Also, both cities have the same living requirements and are both easily to find (water, electricity, gas). A city like Clinton is not for me because I am just way to spoiled to enjoy living there. Everything is at a slower place and although you have more time to reflect and enjoy life it’s not somewhere you can actually live life to the fullest. I love everything about my home town, Vegas is part of who I am now. I’ll never in my lifetime live in a small city like Clinton

The biggest sources of revenue in the industry were conventions. Due to the economic downturn in 2008, revenues from Conventions have decreased dramatically and have not fully recovered. Trade shows, associations and corporations traditionally paid a premium to meet in Las Vegas. Now with fewer organizations meet in Las Vegas, they can now negotiate lower prices. There are now increased leisure travelers going to Las Vegas to fill discounted rooms but does not help you increase revenue much as they do not like to spend money on your high end shopping and dining venues. Americans are also deciding more carefully spend their money preferring “staycations” in order to save money on increasing airfares and travel costs. This is mainly due to the decrease in discretionary spending of 43 percent from December 2007 to January 2011.…

There are a lot of good things about Detroit, but there also many bad things such as abandoned buildings, stray animals, and potholes. Detroit was once one of the most popular cities in the country due to the automotive industry, but then its popularity decreased from the increased violence. “I can’t believe I’m doing this” I mutter into my wooly scarf. It’s 4 o’clock in the afternoon and the weather reads ten degrees Fahrenheit. I shift my weight and try to get into a more comfortable squatting position as the rocks dig into my boots. I look around; it’s a rather dreary day with no clouds in sight. I scribble in a notepad. Five minutes in and my hands are numb.…

People always say that living in a large city is a great quality, they like it because it let them get a lot of benefits; in my opinion, every place has its drawbacks; there is no perfect place that we can say: “It is formidable”. In the other hand, they are people who hate living in a large city, and they prefer the small one. As far as I live in Raleigh, I do not like it due to three reasons: change of weather, few means of transportation, and quiet life.…

As a child I have always wanted to help other people. When I was 8 my parents decided to separate. At the time, my mother decided to move my sister and I away from Chicago. My mother packed our luggage and decided to move us to Detroit. That wasnt the only time we moved, we moved four times while I was growing up, all over the country and even to another continent. Eventually we had to leave our mom in Nigeria and my sister and I went to Detroit. When we got to Detroit my aunt didn't hesitate to make us feel comfortable. It was just something about it,I still didn't feel right. I called my mother one day crying to her and explaining how we didn't like being there. After talking to her, I felt that it was time to go back to Chicago. I called my dad, (knowing I haven’t spoke/seen him for many years) and explained to him the situation on how we felt uncomfortable in Detroit.…

One of Las Vegas 's largest weaknesses is it has failed to capture other demographics such as family tourism and those concerned with the environment. Environmentally, Vegas is not in the best shape. Vegas has a demand for water that far exceeds its supply- an average of 300 gallons per day per person. Without the water from the Colorado River, Las Vegas would not be able to sustain even a fraction of the population and tourists they do today. In addition, Vegas has an insatiable need for electricity. Las Vegas is also an isolated location, meaning nothing else around the city…

I suppose that the reasons are ample and that they vary per individual. You may have certain family ties, or be interested in finding work in your bailiwick or perhaps you have a particular preference for warm weather, etcetera. We each have myriad of unique experiences and relationships that accrue over time from living in one place. Clint finished his post by stating, “there will be something about the Magic City, some hazy memory or vague nuance, tempting your inevitable return.” And this is true, but it is also true for any other large metropolitan city where you happen to be raised and nurtured.…

However, according to the Carson City Health Assessment of 2012, binge drinking was 16.1 % in 2009 compared to the overall rate of 17.5% for the remainder of the state, which includes Las Vegas. Furthermore it indicated that the overall death rate (drug caused) in the state of Nevada to be “16.5 out of 100,000” with Carson City being 16.4% which is extremely problematic. To put it perspective the population of Las Vegas is 595,424 in 2012 and Carson City is 54,838 in 2012. Additionally, where you can obtain free alcohol ( as an adult) in casinos makes this particular troublesome.…

Why do most people come to Las Vegas? The most common answer is work. As Las Vegas has more than tripled in population over the last twenty years, most of this can be directly associated with the expansion and innovation of the Las Vegas Strip and all of the jobs that come from it. The Las Vegas Strip is a four and a half mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard that is home to twenty seven hotels and thousands of shops, stores, shows and attractions. With all of the job opportunities that come from the Las Vegas Strip itself, this is an ideal destination to find work. But the Las Vegas Strip is not the only place to find work. I interviewed Daniel Rogalski, a life long Las Vegas resident whose parents moved here from California for work. Daniel says, "My parents came to Las Vegas for all of the job opportunities. My dad works construction and with all of the new hotels and stores being built, there is always a job for him. My mom works on the Nellis Air Base where she is a nurse." Daniel's family is a perfect example of the people moving to Las Vegas for jobs. With open jobs and a strong economy, Las Vegas is a great place to live.…
