Personal Narrative: Moving Back Home
I am moving out of my mom’s house today and into the upstairs apartment of my grandmothers. My cousin just moved out from there so I actually lucked out with that space. I unfortunately don’t really have a choice, as my sister who just had a baby is moving back in with my mother and there really just isn’t space anymore. My sister was living with Oregon with her boyfriend and his three other kids with her three month old and I guess she just couldn’t do it anymore and was in a horrible situation but that lead to me needing to either to share a room with my sister and her newborn or leave. I choose to leave as my mother runs a home daycare and it was hard to be back home to that, work part-time, and be in school full-time. I couldn’t imagine

One significant experiance in my life has been my dad being in the Millitary. My dad was in the Millitary for a short time of one year before he decided it wasnt for him. But in that one year we moved two times. We moved from my hometown of Anacortes Washington to California. I started school and things werent that bad, I made friends and had a park right across the street from my house! life was good. But then we had to move again, to Arizona. We moved from sea side California to the Arizona Dessart. This is where I was really challanged, I didnt make friends as easy as the first move. We moved from a spacious town house with a park to a tiny appartment with no backyard. I distanced myself from my parents and everyone else in my family, I…

After I took the MCAT in June, my life became a little hectic. Besides for completing applications, my parents decided to move to Israel. I was the only child living at home, so they desperately needed my help. We had to empty the house, get rid of all the clutter, and pack the rest of it onto a container. The house needed to be sold, so while packing, we had contractors work on the house. Personally, I was moving to Brooklyn and had to find a job and a place to live. There were many challenges. For Example, the contractor painted the bathroom door, but would not take responsibility when it didn’t close. As of now, I am sleeping on my sister’s floor and trying to finalize a part-time teaching job. I have learned how to remain calm though stressful…

When I was seven years old and almost a half my parents told me that my family was going to pack up everything, leave our home, our livelihood, and move to Idaho. I was young but I knew I was going to miss Albuquerque. I was going to miss the plump quails who walked quickly with their babies toddling behind in a straight line and the skinny, all leg, roadrunners who would sprint across the roads. I was going to miss my little Crocodile Smile green room. I had chosen the paint color, I had watched my room be painted, and I had to leave it. Abandoning my home was hard too. The front of my seashell white house had two, big, high, arched windows. They had rusty yellow stains running down beneath them that made the house look like it was crying golden tears. Near the grand maroon oak front door were some slightly overgrown, prickly rose bushes. Everyday the roses blushed and smiled at me, turning their pink and yellow faces up. I was mortified to leave my crying house with the smiling roses. The day we left, I found out we were leaving. I had convinced myself that we weren’t going to leave, but then we did. I left my home, my friends, but mostly my memories. My memories included early morning balloon fiestas, during…

The first place I would pick to move to is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Everyone forgets about this part of Michigan, half of the time it isn’t on the weather maps on the news. I think it would still be hard because I would have to pick up my life and transfer it to another world. At this point I understand that I would have to give up the luxuries I love so much. I would keep my phone but I cannot take my entire bedroom, my car, or my school with me. I know a lot of my family would stay put. They would suffer through it because they wouldn’t believe it until it was actually happening. My mother’s side of the family is very old fashioned and will not leave their ground because they have already been here so long and have worked so hard.…

As a child I have always wanted to help other people. When I was 8 my parents decided to separate. At the time, my mother decided to move my sister and I away from Chicago. My mother packed our luggage and decided to move us to Detroit. That wasnt the only time we moved, we moved four times while I was growing up, all over the country and even to another continent. Eventually we had to leave our mom in Nigeria and my sister and I went to Detroit. When we got to Detroit my aunt didn't hesitate to make us feel comfortable. It was just something about it,I still didn't feel right. I called my mother one day crying to her and explaining how we didn't like being there. After talking to her, I felt that it was time to go back to Chicago. I called my dad, (knowing I haven’t spoke/seen him for many years) and explained to him the situation on how we felt uncomfortable in Detroit.…

A couple of years ago I got kicked out of my house. Homeless, I had literally no where to stay or anyone to turn to. I had never opened up to anyone about my home life situation. Due to my upbringing in a predominantly rich, christian neighborhood I didn’t feel like anyone would understand my abusive parents or try to help. When I got kicked out I was sure that was the end of the line for me.…

The sound of music and people laughing in the background. This is what I could hear even before I saw what was going on at every event. This was the homecoming events where every day there were different activities. For example, some of my favorites were the blow-up obstacle course and the oxygen bar. Usually they would have some activities and food from 11-1, and it was open to everyone who wanted to come. Also, they had giveaways, but those ran out within the first hour, and during the end of the week even faster because everyone knew there was going to be giveaways. At the beginning, I thought that there was going to be lots of people and I would not get a change to participate in the activities, but it turns out that the time range allowed people to come at different times. Even though, there may have been a lot of people who showed up they were spread out and I did not notice the number of people as much. Overall, I thought it was a great idea to have different events throughout the week instead of a formal dance because this allowed everyone to participate. If someone was not able to come one day they did not miss everything because there were other events.…

The thought of returning to a full life after my burn injury was one that stood taller than a mountain. I will forever possess sincere feelings for those who were there supporting and guiding me in my recovery from friends, doctors, nurses, and family. As I returned home from the hospital the front door to our house resembled a revolving door with friends and family constantly coming and going. The teachers from my high school personally called me to express their love and care, one even offered to bring a web cam into her classroom so I would not fall behind on the material! The sheer support and constant uplifting made my month long journey of home recovery fly by.…
