Personal Narrative: Moody Nolan
This morning I got my tea and drove down to Moody Nolan, yet again. As I went up the elevator, I was greeted by Lisa Merket, an interior designer, telling me that I had the opportunity to shadow her. While I was in interior design department, I learned about distinct fabrics and materials. We both agreed to do a matte granite, considering the fact her kitchen is contemporary. Lisa then taught me how to use photoshop. The dublin Marriott hotel asked Moody Nolan to decorate the exterior and interior of the building. With that, Lisa gave me a blank outline and I got to change the outdated textures and furniture. Louis Comfort Tiffany’s eclectic sense of design incorporated the styles of the Arts and Crafts, Aesthetic, and Art Nouveau movements (Johnson 8). He had an eye for ornamentation in which he transformed every piece in a room into a humanly functional work of art (Johnson 27). Light and color were strong for forces in the design of his spaces to create a sense of exoticism and romance (Johnson 33). Though his designs were lavish, he strived to make his spaces livable and enjoyable by the user, not just museum-like rooms that marveled wealth or status (Johnson 28). He grew inspiration from the artistic values of other cultures giving him a fascinating image of design where he sought to create harmony by integrating these principles with aspects of nature in order to make striking yet livable interiors.…

As a little girl I always sat and thought about what I wanted to be when I grow up. I could never really come up with an answer but I always knew that I wanted to help little kids because I love little kids they are so little and adorable with a bright future ahead of them, that's just a passion i've always had. I also knew that I somewhat wanted to go inside of the medical field as well. At first I wanted to be a Nurse , Pediatrician, Doctor and so many different things. So one day I was watching an old movie with Queen Latifah and Common named “Just Wright”. In the movie Common was an basketball player and Queen Latifah was an physical therapist. It was impossible, there was no sword in the rock, nothing. I instantly knew just who had it. Back at the tourney, I decided on confronting the child and the knight that had the blade. But the sword was now just a normal blade exactly like mine. Was I insane? No, I knew what I had seen. I knew there was a ornate golden blade. I scanned the surrounding area searching for a sign of where the golden blade and the knight where. Finally I decided to just go down and run between the tents that held armour and weapons for the soldiers, and then finally the actual tourney. I then noticed the child returning looking prouder than ever. I confronted him trying to look like a stalwart knight. But I´d say I looked more like a coward, so he just ignored…

I was maybe 13 when I saw Citizen Kane the first time. When it was over I couldn’t believe my reaction. My hands were shaking, my palms and arm pits sweaty. I felt my heart race like a jackhammer and I knew I more than watched a movie, I experienced one. True, I didn’t understand all the complexities of Kane, but I understood the phenomenal acting and fantastic drama. Years later I would understand more, but in that moment at 13 I saw storytelling for more than a two-dimensional celluloid.…

Growing up in New York City has been one of my biggest blessing. I’ve met with so many different personalities and cultures that I feel more well rounded by default. One thing that I’ve always found lacking in the city is the presence of small stable communities. My elementary school had 800 kids and my high school has over 5000 kids. Barnard offers the best of both worlds for meーa small college community situated in the best city in the world.…

Another term to describe how this event plays as a horror movie in my mind is referring to it as the “Twilight Zone”. Before I encountered this “force “or what I have referred to as a “religion” I was always involved in my community, kept close relationships with prior friends and always served in the church. In addition public places were normal I always interacted with employees at local stores and many people in public places. The main thing I received from friends, family and church is fellowship and truth. Besides truth there was also a certain amount of trust you expect from friends and especially family and the church. Many times when you face those outside of your family friends and the church you may be refused the truth and trust.…

My informational interview with Justin Nichols taught me a lot more about unscripted casting and showed me how everyone’s path to success in the entertainment industry is unique. Although I had met professionals in television who did not think about having a career in the industry until after college, almost all of them broke into the TV business as assistants for executives. Justin’s path is extremely interesting because he had never worked in television, but his personality and networking strengths led him to producer job for his first job in the industry. Despite Justin’s lack of experience in television, he intelligently recognized his skills from previous jobs that would be useful in casting, such as his friendliness, his interviewing experience, and his ability to relate to people. Speaking with Justin about his path to being a Casting Producer assured me that there is no one “right way”…

The sensation of adding colors and textures to a room to bring it to life is extremely comforting to me. I have always been told that I have a unique talent when decorating a room, rearranging furniture, and adding memorable touches to a person’s home or office setting.
