Personal Narrative: Middle School Basketball
I sat there, riding home from a football game finding myself spacing off thinking about basketball. basketball is starting soon and i cant help thinking about getting to play varsity. I miss the smell of the gym right before a basketball game and the feel of the basketball grooves. I actually kind of miss the bad tasting water from the school water fountain. One thing that I miss the most about basketball is the feeling of trying your hardest and succeeding at it. I’ve been playing basketball since i was only 7 years old. I played with members with some of my 9th grade friends and some of my 8th grade friends. We started playing on a seven foot rim at the famous YMCA in sioux city. We were very good for a young age playing basketball. We …show more content…
We were all really nervous for the tournament. But then our couch came up to us and gave us some words of wisdom like do our best, i know you can beat them, stuff like that. The buzzer rang and we started the game. Its seemed like the longest game i have ever played but its was finally over and we won our first tournament game. I am now 12 and started middle school basketball. Middle school basketball was a huge change for me. It was a change for me because instead of 8 players on a team you now have 19 kids on one team. There was good things and there was bad thinks about 19 kids on a team. The good part about it was that everybody got to play, also i think it made our opponent scared that we have that much players. The bad news about it, is that there are less time to play for me because our couch wanted everybody to play. In middle school i think practices were a little different. Practice is a big part of basketball and i think when i was little, practices were a lot harder than middle school practices. When i was little i remember running a lot more than middle school. I also remember more discipline if you mess up or run a play wrong. Playing middle basketball felt like nothing else

A memory from my athletics that will stick with me forever was the last time I was able to lace up and play basketball on our home court. We played a long time rival, Aquin. The game was down to the wire and I was able to tie the game with 24 seconds left. Then we got the ball back and Ellie was fouled with about a second left, which if anyone on our team were to be put on the line, I would choose her. She went up and swooshed the first shot! Then, since Aquin wouldn't be able to get the rebound, make it down the court, and shoot with the time left, coach told her to miss the second shot. Ellie then winded up and chucked the ball right off the backboard so they ended up getting the ball out of bounds anyway. We blocked the throw in, and I ran…

It was a fun game to watch, as we all thought about us playing on that court the next day. It was finally game day, and we had to play Stewartville, 2nd place from Minnesota. They were athletic, but we ended up winning the close match. Our next rival was the Bismark Thunder, 1st in North Dakota and last year's national champions. We were nervous since the were taller, stronger, faster, and just better than us. We lost to them, but we were fired up to play for 3rd place. The team headed over to the Target Center for the 3rd place game. Playing there was so neat, being under the lights, having them announce your name, and just being with the tam. We played Grafton, who placed 2nd at state in North Dakota. They looked like us, athletically, so we weren’t too worried. We came out with a bang, ready to play. Darby and Ellie pushed it up the court on fast breaks, giving us the early lead. Rilee and I played great defense on the post, as well as Marlee on the wing. Jenny came in and scored a couple before halftime. We were tied 17-17 at the half, and we knew we would have to work even harder. Halftime was over, and we played our hearts out the rest of the game. Mavis and Paige played great offensively, as well as Taylor on defense. We beat Grafton, 36-34, with Darby’s 1:00 left, 2-point shot. We were so happy that we had pulled off that win! We spent the next hour at the…

Many people don’t think that middle school sports are important, but I’ve come to realize that, that is simply not true, for middle school sports keep you active, and if you have bad grades you can’t play your game, so it also motivates you to work hard in school. Sports also give you a hobby if you have a lot of time on your hands that you don’t know with. Middle school sports also are a learning experience if you have never played the sport and would like to learn how to play. They are great for practicing for high school and most of the programs at Height provide opportunities to move to higher levels of the sport by finding out of town teams you can play to improve your abilities.…

Growing up I played baseball to me baseball was everything i could think of. i couldn't wait to the weekend so i could put on that dirty uniform and pick up the new bat and nice leather glove and play baseball. When i was young i played in a big park in NYC where everyone saw you play so as i grew up everyone expected me to continue playing baseball and get better and work hard my mother always signed me up for baseball and i met a lot of coaches who help me gain more talent throughout the years. So as i grew up baseball started to be more and more of a priority to me i went to baseball practice two times a week one during the week and one on the weekend and with baseball practice i attended a baseball program which is twice a week meaning less and less time for homework and time to study. that being said i believe that time management and dealing with less and less sleep is the biggest problem with high school sports.…

Basketball has developed a lot since its founding. The first ever basketball game ever ended with a score of 1-0. Before they used a basketball they used a soccer ball. They started with peach baskets, cut the bottom, added backboards, and then ten years later came the open nets we used today. In the regular season they played 150 games up in until 1963 league. Each basket was three points. In 1949 there were two professional leagues. The National Basketball league and the Basketball Association of America merged to make the NBA. In the 1960s, pro teams from coast to coast play for million people. The basketball was really big and heavy.…

My favorite leisure activity is playing, watching, reading, really anything to do with basketball. Basketball is by far my favorite thing in the world. A basketball court is where I feel most at home, and it is the one place on earth I can be where I know what I’m doing and what I’m talking about. It’s fairly popular in the US (it’s the playoffs right now), and its athletes are extremely polarizing and recognizable, because it’s the one sport where an athlete's face is always exposed, not covered up by a football helmet, baseball cap, or hockey mask. My favorite time and place is anywhere and anytime. I prefer indoors, although it can be played outdoors, and some even prefer it that way. The classic way that people play is often in a driveway at home, but the best is always against someone on a court. I started playing basketball because of my original favorite player, Shaquille O’Neal. He was a huge, unstoppable guy. One who was able to do the things that the smaller players’ did. So one day, when I was 11-years old, I decided to go outside to the family basketball hoop and take a shot. The basket was originally for my sister, so this was my first time ever shooting a…
