Personal Narrative: Me Tinkering With The Geek Squad
“Click, click, click,” The sound of me tinkering with the PlayStation 1 DualShock controller at just five years old. I found it intriguing yet strange how the piece of technology worked. I could hear my mother’s voice in the background “Why did you buy him a PlayStation when he’s only five years old. He’s not going to know how to use it”. Thirty minutes later I plug in the controller to the console, connect the power cord to the power outlet, and start playing Disney’s Tarzan. My parents enter the living room in awe and my mother’s previous questions were answered. From that point on, I’ve been my families low-budget version of Geek Squad. We all knew I would end up in the technological field as a future career. The Redbird has always been an image pleasing logo for me whenever I see it around television or on teacher’s banner in their classrooms. The red color schemes really blend well and just has an appeal that can’t really be explained. I want to attend a university where I am proud of representing the school colors and the red and white is not going to be an issue. Illinois State is a very recognizable school all over the country; …show more content…
Soccer has taken a substantial part of my life as I live, breath, and die futbol. I play club as well as high school soccer and I have to manage my school work with soccer and it’s sometimes a pain, but I always look at the light at the end of the tunnel. One day I might be up until 12 at night doing homework, but I always think if you put in the work, you will reek the benefits later on. All those sleepless nights will make my parents proud of me for being the first college graduate of the family. They’ll look at my diploma hanging from the wall and know all their sacrifices they’ve made for me paid off and they’ll know I made it in life. They want me to be the person they could never be and I plan to achieve that by being a

It started just as any normal Saturday would; December 8, 2012, I woke up, went through my morning routine and went to soccer practice. I was competing for a spot on the North Carolina ODP (Olympic Development Program) soccer team. Training was being held at fields about two hours from my house. I sat in the backseat of my dad’s car with my two sisters and as we rode to the fields I began to mentally prepare myself for how I would play my best and make the team.…

Recently I was voted MIA ambassador of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School along with Ben Manoogian. We went for an interview at PAT and got interviewed the superintendent. We spoke about the new turf field, how to be a good effective leader, and about our soccer seasons thus far. After the interview Mr. Buckley drove us back to the school, and he was speaking to us about the great opportunities we have at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. Although I hear those words often I never really listen. Mr. Buckely said, “Ben and Katrina you guys are great leaders and great soccer players, but remember you will not always be playing soccer. After college soccer will probably end for you. So take advantage of your education. You are a student before you are an athlete.” He went on to tell us his experiences, and how him dedicating himself to his schoolwork put him in the successful position he is in today.…

This is my second year on the Peabody Magnet High Soccer team, and I was even awarded the Coach’s award for playing midfield and made honorably mention in my district ranking. I also am the Co-Captain of the Peabody Flag line. Being on the soccer and flag teams taught me that hard work really pays off and really forced me to challenge myself. When the flag line first started, we did not have a coach or experience. Although we taught ourselves our own routines, techniques and twirls; we placed and won a 3rd place trophy in our first battle of the bands competition. It was the smallest trophy there, but it meant more to me than any big one could. It just proved to me again that if I put my mind to something I could accomplish…

I am only a mere seventeen years old and although there are numerous past challenges which continue to surface as obstacles to this day, such as my knee surgery, there is a whole world of adulthood which I am entirely oblivious to that will undoubtedly provide me with issues as well. Being a teenager is difficult; I have the responsibilities of applying for colleges, finishing my schoolwork, slowly prying myself from beneath my parents' wing, and challenging medical obstacles. Because physical therapy (the community and the quote) has inspired me in immeasurable ways, I have learned to focus on my potential and my capabilities rather than my weaknesses in not only soccer, but also my schoolwork, music, and all other aspects of my…

Soccer had always been my main passion. For eleven years it was what I loved to do and I spent all my free time doing it. There was never a time when there wasn't a ball at my feet. Although as time went on I noticed my passion slowly breaking down. Playing became less and less fun and it became something I no longer looked forward to. I tried to deny this for a while, I went to college camps and continued to try to pursue my old dream of playing college soccer and was even invited to play with the national team but despite these seemingly wonderful things it didn't feel right and I wasn't enjoying it. In my sophomore year of high school the combination of a selfish coach, unwilling teammates and failure to make the varsity level finally forced…

My life has revolved around soccer since I was four years old. My whole family was born into the sport and I’m so thankful that I have the support from my family and friends to continue to follow my dream in playing college soccer. I believe my life would not be the same without participating in the sport I love and playing with the people I grew up with. I wouldn’t have met half the people I know now. All my teammate’s families that treat me like their family would have been just imaginary. I wouldn’t have a second family to fall back on when I need. Soccer had made me for who I am. The reason I’m so competed and driven is because of the game. Soccer has helped me become a responsible hardworking young adult that doesn’t like to fail. My never-quit…

I remember when I was five, I would always attend my step sister’s soccer games during the weekend while at my dad’s. I would always love to watch but I was more of a hands on person. I have always wanted to play soccer but unfortunately it was harder to do for a kid, like me, when I had divorced parents that lived 40 minutes away from each other. It was so hard because usually when it came to soccer, the games would be during the weekend and practices would be a few days during the week. Finally, after my sophomore year I decided to try again and play for my school.…

The team got together the next week for the yearly season ending party. I walked into my coaches house with guilt still hanging on my shoulders. To my surprise though, no one seemed to be mad at me, even when I had lost us the game, and they had to be upset about not winning the championship title. When our captain had started to organize teams for a little kick-around session, I realized why no one was disappointed at me, or in general for that matter. It was possibly the pressure of winning or the excitement that I might finally live up to my sister’s standards, but somewhere along the way I had forgotten why my teammates and I played soccer in the first place. Although it would have been great, it wasn’t to gain a tournament title or win the game. It was because we all shared the love of the game. I didn’t need to receive a trophy or even come out with an underdog win to have fun playing soccer with some of my closest friends, but apparently I needed to freeze up to remember…
