Personal Narrative-Making The Soccer Team
Soccer has been a big part of my life growing up. The biggest thing for me going into high school, freshman year, was making the soccer team. I showed up to every summer camp training first, and would work an hour before practice every day. To get better and impress the coaches. At the end of one practice the coach pulls me aside and tells me "Keep up the good work, you have a spot on Junior Varsity." At my school for a freshman to make JV was a big deal. I was ecstatic. Just as summer camp came to an end, tryouts began. I went into tryouts with great confidence, having no doubts in my mind about what team I made. The week after tryouts they posted the teams, with the confidence I had, I told myself that I didn't even need to look. That I had

Over the weekend I had a huge Soccer Tournament in Grey. We had two games on Saturday and one game Sunday. In the first game we played a Cumberland club team and beat them 2-0. In our second game we played Westbrook and won 5-0. So at the end of the day we were 2-0 and in first for our bracket, but winslow was also 2-0. Going into Sunday we had to beat South Portland by two goals and not let them score. We ended up tying them 3-3 and we got eliminated because Winslow beat Westbrook 4-0.…

When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

Soccer had always been my main passion. For eleven years it was what I loved to do and I spent all my free time doing it. There was never a time when there wasn't a ball at my feet. Although as time went on I noticed my passion slowly breaking down. Playing became less and less fun and it became something I no longer looked forward to. I tried to deny this for a while, I went to college camps and continued to try to pursue my old dream of playing college soccer and was even invited to play with the national team but despite these seemingly wonderful things it didn't feel right and I wasn't enjoying it. In my sophomore year of high school the combination of a selfish coach, unwilling teammates and failure to make the varsity level finally forced…

It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

First, when kids try out for sports teams they learn important life lessons that will be helpful later on. Soccer is a huge part of my life, and a big part of a soccer team is the coach. The coach must make an impact on their players in order to make the players better. The best coaches will stay with you forever even if they are not your coach anymore. When I was younger and throughout middle school I only had one soccer coach my entire life. The coach I had for my entire life was my father, so getting a brand new coach during my first year of high school was quite scary. I had always been extremely close to my coach, obviously because he was my father, and getting another one that I may not be close to made me nervous. My father knew how I played better that anyone, and he also knew my strengths and weaknesses. Dad had a straightforward view of…

“Cameron, you can’t play football you’ll die,” My mother told me in her usual serious tone, I could always count on my mom to keep it 100% reality even though I hated it. I wanted to play football so bad for three years I've literally had dreams of me playing defensive back, my wishful position, and being able to play with my emotions and do very well. I stopped pursuing football even though deep down I was still set on football.…

Soccer was one of the very first sports that I played when I was young. I participated in the sport for about six years before other responsibilities took over. I still missed soccer, I missed the practices, I missed the games, and I missed the fun. There were several occurrences of world matches between countries that I have watched. The envy grew as each “cup” passed. A few years ago, after watching the World Cup, I planned to buy myself some soccer shoes. However, I only purchased a ball, which was better than nothing. I dribbled it around occasionally as like said; I was busy with other activities. As this summer began, I found out there was going to be a Euro Cup and this sparked that little flame in which I still have in me. In addition to this,…

After losing in the second round of the soccer playoffs, my team was wondering what we could do to improve. The improvement in soccer that we needed was not that of technical work, but instead more game experience. After much thought I came up with the idea to try to join an indoor soccer league. Although it was very easy to set up the team, it was extremely difficult to get the players to commit to coming every week to the game that was scheduled. I had set up a group text and would ask each player if he could make it to each game and would hold them accountable to their answer. At the start of our first game I felt as though I had successfully accomplished what my team originally set out to do. We had made a team and were showing up to games,…

Has there been a time a decision was made for me and I did something about it? Yes, decisions have been for me, either by parents, teachers or friends. At some point in my life decisions had been made, whether it was my parents, siblings or elders.. For example when I was the coach of my high school soccer team, some players agreed and some disagreed with my game plans. My school is a unity school, we had a sporting competition and we had the teams of different groups.…
