Personal Narrative-Magnet School
At the age of five, my siblings and I went to live with my grandmother. I never lived in Indianapolis, I always came to visit family members. It was all a big change, but I thought what the worse that could happen? I attended #68 Elementary School for my first grade year. We didn’t have to wear uniform, the work was easy. Honestly, I was living the life in my opinion. But by time my second grade year I found out I was moving schools again. I was going to attend Cold Springs Academy. This school did not only contain middle school with elementary kids, it was also an environmental magnet school. Inside I was very nervous that I wasn’t going to fit in and that I wasn’t going to be smart enough for the simple fact that I never been to a magnet …show more content…
I loved the school. We learned so much about animals and nature itself almost everyday. It soon came to the point when I was ready to leave to attend a real middle school. But I didn’t know which one I wanted to go to. I had the choices of Shortridge, Broad Ripple, or Crispus Attucks. These schools contained grade sixth to twelfth grade. So I figured I would just stay there for the rest of my school years. After being at Cold Springs for four years. I loved the connections that I had with the animals that I encountered. I made the decision of being a veterinarian, and that carried me to going to Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School. My first day in sixth grade my heart was so warm knowing that I am making this big step towards my goal in being a veterinarian. After the year continued, things were very hard. Adjusting to the different schedule and the classes. But I made it through onto my seventh grade year. Unfortunately, my mom made the decision to move to Florida. This took a big toll on me because I was no longer able attend this school that would be able to teach me everything that I was going to need to know. But I thought to myself I made it this far with many changes, I can deal with a few

“Slow down, future leaders of America at play,” a sign engrained in my memory as a result of the numerous volunteer trips I took to Mountain Mission School. Mountain Mission School (MMS) is a Christian boarding school and home to many children, who come from devastating backgrounds and poverty. Receiving no government funding, Mountain Mission School located in Grundy, Virginia operates solely on private donations and generous charities from churches all over America. In addition to a school, MMS played a key role in my life. Not only was MMS my home but also my church starting from second grade up until I graduated high school.…

I was a percussionist during my high school tenure. As a school musician during my freshman year, I was in the high school band at both Northwest Christian and Dayton Christian. I went to Northwest during the first two quarters of my freshman and the high school band only had one concert, Then, I switched over to Dayton Christian during the last two quarters of my freshman year. The Dayton Christian High School Band was much larger than Northwest’s and performed two concerts, one at the Dayton Christian Cafeteria, and one out at Cedarville University. During my sophomore year at Dayton Christian, I was part of the high school band and the pep band. I was a bass drummer during pep band season; we performed at a stadium in Monroe every home football…

I went to Ansbach Middle-High School. The school was shaped like a rectangle, also all the housing around us were just really tall rectangles, and the military base itself was just a rectangle. Looking back, the environment around me was very depressing and boring. There was a max of 300 hundred students at my school and that was spread through grades 7th-12th. There was no majority ethnicity in the school, instead there was a multitude of races that attended every year. I attended the school through 7th-11th grade. Even though I went to school for 5 years I didn't have an impact until my last year there. 11th grade was the turning point for me. I got involved with a program at my school called the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). I joined this program at 9th grade and treated it as another class till my junior…

Throughout my life, I have moved three times, lived in two different states, and been to five different schools. From these experiences, I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of different people, for this I am very grateful. I consider my first memories to have started when my family and I moved to Overland Park Kansas. The excitement of living in a new neighborhood, and house, was almost unbearable for my younger self. Once we moved in, I had a chance to explore the new surroundings and meet some of my best childhood friends. I also enjoyed six wonderful years in Elementary school. However, once middle school started, I observed the adoption of a more competitive atmosphere and the abandonment of standard teaching methods. This shift…

Middle school was an interesting time for me. School was seven minutes away from home and was right across the street from the elementary school I attended. I never really had strayed far from that area and didn’t know what could be in store for me out beyond. However, I knew one thing. The exact high school which I would attend. It wasn’t until near the end of 8th grade that I came upon a major decision for my future educational career and viewed a presentation on several magnet high school programs, programs specialized towards an interest, I could possibly enroll in. After weighing the options I decided upon the Design and Technology Academy (DATA) as my top choice. DATA advertised a focused, personalized, and diverse educational experience…

The biggest commitment that I have ever made so far was when I was in the high school, that commitment was challenging and difficult for me. It was graduating from the high school a high grades. Why it was challenging and difficult was because before that commitment I was the laziest person in my family, I didn't care about school and believed that getting high grades in school wouldn't change my life as long as I moved from level to the next but my intuition was wrong. My father tried to change my perspective, he had done many thing to me by enrolling me with a tutor, talking to my instructors in school to help me. However, all that things didn't work. He didn't see any change. As a result, he tried to convince me that affect our family’s…

I grew up on a tiny gulf island just south of Courtenay, called Denman Island. There were only about twelve hundred people on my island; the school had about one hundred kids attending from kindergarten to grade six. It was a brand new school with all the latest gadgets and gizmos, and we were going to be the first class to graduate from the new school. It was one of those tiny schools where if not everyone in your grade played on the seasonal sports team then there simply was no team. I was nearing the end of grade six, the last year in my school on my island. So many things were changing from this school year to the next that I knew this was going to be one of the greatest school years of my life.…

I was just ten when my parents told me that my dad got a new job and that we had to move from New York to Georgia. At that moment millions of thoughts rushed into my mind. I didn't want to move. I had a lot of friends and family here, I was on a little league team, everything is great here, and I didn't like the idea of leaving that all behind. I didn't even know where Georgia was. But I knew I had no choice, so that last day of school I said my goodbyes to my friends and teachers with sadness in my heart, knowing I wouldn't see them again next year. I got home, packed everything, and closed the door of the empty house. We drove thirteen hours to our new home. During those thirteen hours of sleeping and staring out the window, a mix of sadness…

Change can be difficult part of a person’s life, oftentimes quite harrowing. Some may find change to be a good thing. I, on the other hand, find it to be more than former. This great change in my life was when my family was forced to move to a new city when I was fourteen. Not only, was I facing a great change, but it would be a change that would affect me for the rest of my life. When I found out that we were moving, I was frightened. I was going to lose all of my friends. I was going to have to start over. That was scary. Being the new kid in school is awful and upsetting, and I was not looking forward to that at all. Already being a shy person who has trouble connecting with new people, being forced to start at a new school was absolutely terrifying.…

Joining the Raycliff school in the 4th grade, not knowing what grade I should actually be in, I was extremely intimidated. Although I had been home schooled until this experience, I adjusted to a new every day routine.…

In the summer of 2nd grade, I spent the entire summer with my 21 year older sister and her family. When summer was over, and school was about to start, I called my mom to see when I was going to come back home and she told me that it was best for me to stay here because growing up in DC wasn’t the best. I hated her decision, but I knew she was right. When I stared school here, I got straight D’s and F’s, because DC has a different education system. I was making A’s and B’s before I got here, but part of that was because I just wanted to be with my mom. By the 4th grade I was back on track making good grades again but then my family told me some news that changed my life FOREVER.…

It was August 8th when were scheduled to get on a plane to Tyler, Texas. Texas seemed like a nice place to live. The town I moved too was pretty big it was bigger than Rockford. We didn’t explore much at first our parents worked while we got all the boxes in the house unpacked and continued to work on our own rooms. We went out on our first night there to eat and there was very many choices to pick from seeing how big the town was. The people there seemed very nice and I thought to myself maybe this won’t be as bad as I thought it would be. But the real test would be when school started. We visited the school the next week for registration and to take a picture for my school id. The school was huge it was setup just like a college campus. It was nothing like Freeport High School. It was way bigger and a lot more students. It was very diverse also. The first day of school I was given a map and I’m thinking to myself this was going to be a very long two years. I never made any real friends; the school was so huge it was rare that you saw the same person you met twice in one day unless you had more than one class with them. I was lonely and quiet for most of the year the kids there seemed to have already established there friends and weren’t looking to make any new ones. But I just minded my own business I’ve met many people but it seemed they didn’t want to make any friends. It was very hard for me because most of my life I’ve known people and always had people to hang out with and talk to. It was very hard for me to move away from all my friends and family, one of the hardest things in my life. It was worse because I was already a…

The high school I started at was The Philadelphia Academy Charter High School. I went there for the first two and a half years of my high school life. I wasn’t very happy in that school because the students were very cruel and obnoxious. I associated with the teachers more than I did with the students. Then one day I came home and I told my parents that I didn’t want to go there anymore. I felt like an outsider and I felt like I didn’t belong there.…
