Personal Narrative-Let's Go To The Locker Room
“EEEEERRRRRRR!” “Let’s go to the locker room and talk,” Coach Germann said. I stood up and walked down the stairs to the court. The team and I went to the locker room like we always do at the end of the third quarter of the girl’s varsity game. Our opponent? The number one team in the state of Kansas, the Hanover Wildcats. With only two seniors, our team had a record that you don’t exactly brag about.
We were missing a few players because of grades or being out of town. Being a freshman, I didn’t think that I would get in very much but maybe a little. However, I was still really nervous for the game. Once we got to the locker room, we talked about our game plan-don’t have quick possessions that don’t result in anything but a turnover. If we did that, we would be

I was listening and trying to think of who it would be. I didn’t guess right. I saw my name on the board and stared in disbelief. Then I heard Coach confirm what I was seeing.
“If you need to clean out your pants Bradley, now’s a good time,” Coach joked.
I couldn’t even laugh I was so shocked. The 5’9” freshman for an mediocre team starting against the number one team in the state. I was shaking for a mix of excitement and nerves. I listened closely to the rest of Coach’s speech. We went out to the court and the girl’s game was just finishing. After they had finished shaking hands, we went out to warm up. They announced the starters individually and played the National Anthem.
Game Time! Andrew tipped the ball to Matt. Matt threw up a lob pass straight to the hoop. I was standing at the three point line, so I turned and ran a couple of steps, jumped and threw down the nastiest dunk you have ever seen. Well, maybe not, since I am white. Our defense was pretty good and on offense we held the ball long enough to get good shots. We frustrated Hanover for some of the game. At the end though, we still lost, but not as bad as we should

Everybody from the team was there at the field. If you looked at our team you might think that we were just a bunch of small town screw-offs. We definitely gave the other team that impression as we warmed up. Our team didn’t take things too seriously. In the batting cages, we practiced our home run swings, and trots. The infielders, including me, bare handed the ground balls hit to us by one of the coaches, and jump threw the ball back to the first baseman pretending we were young Derek Jeters. The outfield dove at every ball that was hit at them. Even if the ball was coming straight at them, they ran back and come forward again so they could dive and get the ball. Yes, we were a bunch of…

The anticipation of knowing whether we were going to be champions or not was very high as we played our hearts out on the court. Everything we'd practiced for was being put to the test in this one moment. It all came down to this last lay-up. Did we get the point? When I was eleven years old I played recreational basketball with a nearby playground called Susan Park. Me and my little brother both were involved in almost every sport they offered. My favorites were volleyball and basketball. Going to practice was the highlight of my day. I really put my heart into these sports. Our basketball team this particular year was undefeated. As a post player and shooting guard there was a lot of pressure on me to get the ball to the goal at any cost and that's ultimately what I did in every game. It was our championship game and the heat was on like never before. Recruiters from the All-Stars team were there to watch us and pick their favorites so the pressure was definitely on for the players who were looking to take it to the next level. The game starts and we're all basically in the warm-up stage of the game we'd score, they'd score, nothing too intense. All of a sudden we start getting into the climax of the game, only about five minutes left. We were only two points away from beating them and it was up to one person on our team to step up and go for the game winning lay-up, that person was me. There were a few seconds left of the game and we still had to get up the court and to the goal. As the referee blew the whistle my heart sank but I knew what I had to do. The ball was passed to me and with no hesitation I ran down the court as if I was the only person out there and went up for the lay-up like a pro and I made it! This was definitely the best day of my life. The crowd rushed towards me and picked me up just like in the movies, I felt like a star! After the crowd and everything calmed down and came to an end a recruiter from the all-star…

“LET’S GO BOYS!!!! LET’S WIN THIS!!! BEAT THESE RAVENS!!!!!!” The crowd was screaming and chanting wildly as we began to run out of the locker rooms and onto the large football field. I lead them, raising my arms up and down to signal the crowd to get louder with their cheers. As I did this, I was also sprinting to the middle of the field through the large slit that was cut for my eyes. I turned back to the crowd in the stands, and the players ran around me, with smiles of their faces, to get to their positions and the bench. I started to jump and raise my arms, “ FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!!” They all chanted my name in union, some of them even had signs and horns! A large smile crept onto my face behind my large mascot mask, and I couldn’t…

I started out on the bench because I was new.As I sat there and watched the girls I noticed there lighting speed, bolting up and down the court. Then it was finally time for me to go in. I could tell the other girls just clicked .Passing back and forth and making layups. Then there was me, the chicken with there head cut off. Well it wasn't that bad . Actually the coach said I did good , but that is how I interpreted the situation . We won the game 52-20 I was really happy but that was just the begin because it was a tournament there would be three more games. We won! We won! We one! Campions we were named. We got shirts and a trophy. That one tournament in Canby was only the being to victory after…

Me and my friend named Tyler were the only ones who were good on that team. Tyler was gone during this game so I had to do pretty much everything. We were winning at halftime, so my dad tried to get the players in who weren't as good. North came back and was winning, so my dad put me back in. There was about 5 minutes left and we were losing by only like 2. I took…

The basketballs were thumping all over the gymnasium floor. People were sweating from the anxiety and were curious to know who would make the team. Tryouts felt like an eternity. Everyone was exhausted from running up and down the court. No one really knew what to expect because all we did was play a simple game of basketball. Some girls complained about the tryouts not being fair due to them no having a bad game. Other girls cheered with excitement as if they knew they were going to make the team. Tryouts finally came to an end. The girls scanned the room looking up and down trying to determine who would stay and who would leave. Sadly, we all stayed waiting. The official team was going to be revealed until the next…

Friday 26th of February: This was a very important day for the team, we needed to win to keep our chances of playing Met 1, playing against Knox 2 at Slater Reserve who whooped us in the past year by 14 points. It was one of the most physical games of basketball I’ve ever played. In the last quarter with a minute and thirty seconds, was when the shocking accident happened. We were up by a couple of points, and doing our full court press to apply as much pressure as possible. In the press I was playing a sweeper, and roll picking off any long passes that tried to get through our press. They were inbounding the ball from the sideline from in front of our bench. I instructed the boys to get into the arrow formation. I could…

“Today is the day you boys become men,” That’s all I remember my coach yelling, over and over again. I was nervous because this was my first game as a varsity football player. When that big yellow school bus pulled off, everything began to move in slow motion, my heart begun to pound as if something was trying to jump out of my chest, sweat slowly made its way down my face, one trickle at a time; everything was seemed so quite. “Make sure y’all grab everything or you’ll be on the side line with me.” Coached yell to the team as we arrived to Nelson Stadium. On our way to the locker room, I seen the other team players already on the field warming up, these guys where twice my size! “What are you looking over there for boy, are you scared boy?” No sir; We was still 2 hours away from the game, but now it was time for us to take the field and warm…

The game started and it all started out as a good game. Everyone was passing the ball, and we were so close to getting a goal! But the goalie got the ball before it when into the net. Them, halftime came and I was pretty worn out. Our coaches had us all get our drinks and walked us over to the field to have a team talk. I would say that my team was having a good game. The coaches were talking, telling the team that we are doing good, but we should fix a few things. Like our passes, our shots, and the assistant passes that could help us get that goal…

The first half went great. The Globetrotters were amazing; performing all kinds of trick shots and alley-oops. One of my favorite parts of the game was listening to Showbiz, the “star” of the show joke around on the court and interact with the audience, which was hilarious. It was getting close to halftime and the same coordinator guy came up to us and brought us over the end of the Harlem Globetrotters bench, which was pretty awesome because for a few minutes we got to sit beside the players and watch them play courtside. Moments later, the bell rang for halftime and it was finally time for the halftime event. The objective of the game was to see who could make the shots in a minute, but the catch was that we were tied to a rope and a person from behind us pulled the rope while we shot making the task of making the basketball much more difficult. If it wasn’t for the rope I would have won the competition because I was the better shooter, but I was skinny…
