Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned From Obstacles

The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. An obstacle can be a setback and anything that challenges you. I have faced many of challenges, but all of them have made me stronger. For example, when I was in 7th grade I broke my ankle at the beginning of football season. Another example is when I was in 8th grade I found out I had ADD, which makes it really hard to stay focused. Also this past summer I gained 30 pounds, which was really hard when football season came around.

My first major setback was when I broke my ankle at the beginning of football season. This was my first time ever breaking a bone and it happened right before our first game. The hardest thing about it was not being able to play and having to watch every game. The second hardest thing was that I could not workout so I got out of shape. This experience made me realize that I need to work really hard in order to get back to they way I was. It also helped me see how blessed i am to be able to heal properly and keep playing.
Throughout school I always struggled with staying focused and getting good grades. When I was in 8th grade my doctor said that I had ADD and that they were going to give me pills that will help me focus. I remember when my parents told me what it was I was really embarrassed. I honestly didn’t know what to think at first i was just really upset and felt as if there was something wrong with me. So after the first couple days of taking the pills everything felt a lot easier. I was able to focus a lot better in school, my grades were going up, and my test scores were getting a lot better.
