Personal Narrative-Lack Woods
I came to a clearing in the thick woods. I placed my hands on my knees, gasping for air. I dropped my backpack with the few belongings I had quickly gathered on the ground. Instantly my legs gave way from exhaustion leaving my lying on the pine needle ground. It was clam.
Why had I ran for so long anyway? It’s not like anyone would notice I was gone. As the second child of six I often went unnoticed. The little ones are always too busying getting in trouble, complaining, or looking for food, and my older brother is always off on his own anyway. Mother and Justin wouldn’t come home till late at night if at all and would be too drunk to see if we were all home. It was so quiet here, deep in the woods, which was not something I’m used to.

Whenever I meet someone new, there will come a time where they ask me, what sport do I play. I'd say golf. But why do I play this most unusual sport. Well one of the reasons why I play is because of my main golfer Tiger Woods or in other words my hero. The three points I'll talk about today are: who is he, why him and what he has done to be the best.…

I was a camp counselor at Camp Wabikon ‒ a co-ed overnight summer camp located in Temagami, Ontario for children who are 6-15 years of age. Along with teaching Red Cross swimming and lifesaving and Tennis, I was my cabin's 'parent' for six weeks. Therefore, I was present with the children at all times. In essence, I was the leader of my cabin's the physical, social and mental development. The main things I learned were the importance of time management and organization , as I had to plan lessons for swimming and Tennis while taking care of my cabin; conflict resolution between campers; and the ability to plan and foresee events (I had to plan camp-wide events and activities for all campers).…

I snapped up and burst out the door then jumped into the air, spread my wings and flew. A few people saw me but I didn’t care because no one would believe them. My wings were painful, all the flying I had done the day before was only then sinking in. I had to land and walk but I couldn’t, not out in the open. Then a forest appeared on the horizon and I thought it was the perfect place to conceal myself for that day. After landing I started to walk but my wings kept snagging on branches so I was forced to furl them up tightly; it was quite unpleasant but had to be done to keep them undamaged.…

Growing up in rural Kansas was boring. Especially since I grew up in the seventies. There were no cell phones or game systems to occupy my time. My family had an old black and white television set. I loved to watch The Price is Right in the days before Bob Barker’s hair turned white. After the show was over, the only way to kill time was to play outside and wander down to the creek that ran parallel to our property. There was a secret trail buried in the wall of trees that lined our two acre yard. My brother and I would slide down the trail, landing on the dirt banks like explorers on a mission. Sometimes we would hunt for crawdads under rocks. Other times we would take our poles and fish. We never went into the water after the time I got bit by a gar.…

The trail out back the beauty of nature and the smell of the fresh air. The leaves they’re falling all around you. As you walk the trail leads you to a big waterfall that not many people know about. As you just sit on the rock and watch the leaves fall while the sun sets it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see. Listening to the birds make their music while lying on the rock besides the water. It’s calm and relaxing; However it can get a bit chilly. Sometimes if you take the four wheeler or dirt bike out back Zoey will run along side of you. Zoey is our dog she runs just as fast as the four wheeler does. Then I imagine of being a little girl again going out back with my dad. We used to catch salamanders on our way to where we were going.…

March 24, 2011 was a cold, bitter day. I had sat in my chair in front of the glass, slider, door peaking out to the house across the river that had haunted me for years. I could just make out the shadow of the young man who had frightened me throughout my childhood. The house held a cold glaze and it's horrifying characteristics seemed to escape from the windows of the house. I had planned this day over and over for three years. Everyday I'd think, and I'd think, and I'd think, about every movement of my plan to execute the man that took my life. I had boated down the river about a quarter of a mile so I could come to the house through the back of the woods. Gun in hand I stepped out of the boat and began my trek through the woods.…

I believe, as humans, we take aspects of life for granted; It’s a fatal flaw we all possess. Many of us are healthy, naturally smart, and grow up in ideal environments, but there are also many who do not. I am privileged enough to have grown up in a well rounded environment, so I have this frequent need to help others. I feel I would be taking my life for granted if not using it to help others. My application would be incomplete if I could not express how helping others makes me, me.…

“Graduation, the hush-hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations and diplomas.” You weren’t lying when you said that Maya Angelou. May 19th, 2013 I had dreamt of that day for almost four years. I know I can’t be the only person who feel this way. I remember it as if it was just yesterday. So many different emotions going through my mind all at once. Happiness, Sadness, I felt relieved because it was almost over but at the same time I felt anxious and overly excited to just leave and go far away. 389 seniors were going to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. After all, our class had the biggest percentage of graduates who were actually…

Starting from a place I remembered as a teen, moving from a place that was warm to a place that had all four seasons; such as winter, spring, summer and fall. The First place that I grew up was surrounded by mountains. During the winter it was full of white snow, something that I was never used to seeing coming from California where all one would see was sandy beaches and the waves clasping one another. As I remember being so new to Park City, UT all I could see was the wonderful views of trees, mountains and people skiing or snowboarding. I have to say this was a fond memory because for the firs time I was actually able to experience the feeling of what winter was…

I let out a high-pitched shriek as my feet slid out from under me, and I skidded across dirty forest floor. Desperately, I tried to grab something–anything–as I fell, my ankle twisting under me. Trying to restrain myself from crying out again but I couldn’t, I lay on the ground, teeth clenched tight and hands wrapped around my ankle in the shadows provided by the huge dorm behind me. I couldn’t make out what it was behind me, all I knew was that I was trying to get away from it. I got up off the ground and began to run. My breath came out in gasps as I was trying to put one foot in front of the other. I pounded across the needle covered ground. If only someone could hear my footsteps, my rapid breathing. I had nearly run out of breath before I screamed. My legs felt like led. No matter how much my body was screeching at me for a rest. I had to keep working at it, pumping myself harder and faster. I could hear it behind me. It's fast paced feet. Whoever it was, was gaining on me. I propelled my legs forward faster. Hoping the adrenalin would increase my natural speed. I leaped over a log a millisecond before crashing into it. I shuddered to think what would have happened if I didn't jump it. If my shins had crashed into the log and my body had toppled over it onto the dirt covered floor leaving me defenseless to my tracker. My breathing increased rapidly. I couldn't make sense of anything. There was a low hanging branch I failed to skirt around. I ducked, but stumbled on a pinecone and came down on one knee. Panic seized my body, my fear was coming true. It was going to attack me. I was going to die right here in the forest. My hands on the ground, my nose pressed against the ground as if I was crawling. I was going to leave this world a defenseless organism. I sprung back up from the earth. I somehow found the strength to sprint through the forest again. I searched ahead of me looking for some way to escape the menace behind me. I saw a break in the…
