Personal Narrative: Keegan
I have always wanted to hit a dinger since the day I started baseball. Keegan and I were warming up before the semi final game. It started off regular, he throws it to me, I throw it back. Then my team started taking pop ups, but me and keegan still got to warm up because he was starting pitcher and I was catching for him. It was pretty wet outside but that wouldn't stop us from playing our game.

Then we got down to business and took the field. Keegan started pitching the ball to me. Soon enough the ump said “balls in”, which meant I had to throw the ball down to second base, so the game could start. It was a pretty quick inning because nobody could get a hit off of Keegan.

We all started walking towards the dugout. As I thought, my coach

When the first game came I was extremely happy yet nervous also. We ended up winning the game by the score of three runs to two although I did not get to bat at all and was put in only for two innings of defense. I was disappointed that I did not get to play much but I was happy with the win. Our second game was the next day and I hoped to get more playing time then. When that day came it turned out that we were playing an extremely skilled team. We were losing three to one in the last inning and I still hadn’t played at all the whole game. One of my friends hit a double and then another one of my teammates hit a single to knock him in to score. The score was now three to two and we had a chance to come back. My coach then decided that we needed someone faster on the bases so he called for a…

I don’t remember much about how my family died, I was just a three year old boy; Keenan Waren. All I can remember is it was Thanksgiving day with my whole family. I know it was this day because the smell of the turkey was burnt into my memory, and it’s also what the people at the orphanage told me as I was growing up. Something else I can recall is seeing a tall, bulky shadow holding a green flame in his hand after the lights shut off. Everyone was screaming, but I am still unsure of what was happening to them. My mom carried me out into the rainy night in front of the house in my carseat, and I was crying for the teddy bear my aunt gave me for my first birthday. I kept crying, so my mom covered me with blanket and ran back inside to grab it…

After we warmed up it was time to play the final game. We were the home team so we were in the field first. I was playing center field and it was so hot outside that I felt like I was going to melt. When the umpire yelled, ”Play Ball!” I jumped up on my feet and was ready for the first pitch. On the very first pitch the batter hit the ball straight to me. I watched the ball go up in the air and I was putting my glove up in the air ready to catch the ball but then I lost track of it. My sunglasses did not help me with the sun. I was trying to find the ball, but then SMACK! The ball hit me straight in the mouth and I fell to the ground like a sack of…

The score was tied we were under the lights it was like 9:00 at night either win or go home. I was thinking to myself I hope I get up to bat, so I can win this. I was second in the batting order, and the bottom of the order was up. One out, then two outs, and then the top of the order. Our lead off was really good, so I was expecting to be up next,…

It was the middle of an away sophomore baseball game against DeWitt. My brother, Keegan, was up to bat. The pitch came, he swung and down he went. The baseball came off his bat and drilled him in the left eye. There was only one parent there, one of Keegan’s teammate’s dad. He drove Keegan to the hospital and called my parents. At the time, I was at a softball game working the scoreboard for the varsity West Delaware Hawks team. My mom called to tell me my grandma would pick me up when I was done and that her and my dad were on their way to the Iowa City hospital. My dad was at work at the time and met my mom there. They would explain more later. After they got down there and I got home with my sisters, I called my mom. She gave me an explanation…

As part of our school's community service program,I volunteered at a family with a down syndrome child. For two years, I went to help the Jablons every Thursday right after school.I helped out with a variety of things including homework, bathing the little ones, and physical therapy with Nesanel. Sometimes it seemed as though I was on the giving end, however I was really the receiver. I have learned so much from Nesanel. From his precious smile, his determination, and his love for others. Nesanel loves friends. He doesn't discriminate between people from different backrounds or color. Nesanel is truly special. Working with him and his siblings has given me a new outlook on…

I will always remember the kids that were playing there and I think that some of those kids would go to the mlb. So me and my dad finally arrived at the ballparks and I then rolled my bag over to where my team was staying. I then slowly walked over to my team and began to greet them. My coach looked really familiar and he was bald and wearing these shaded glasses. I also remember one of the kids named Derek who went and tossed with me in the grass on one the fields we were by and every time he went up to bat he would use a wooden bat and he hit very well in each game. We then played 2 games, one against white and one against gray. It was very funny playing the white team because Johnny, Logan, and Nick were all on that team (they used to be on the same team). Anyway, my team did well and we won against white team but lost to the gray team. I was ⅗ as an average in each game. So now on to the exciting part. The very next day, there were these challenges that everybody did called Golden Arm, Base Running, and the Homerun Derby. I decided to do the Golden Arm and the Base Running. In the base running, I didn’t do so well (the guy in first was a minute faster than me), but in the Golden Arm, that is a different story. So basically you had to stand in front of the mound and…

The next day I was nursing a giant lump swollen on my forehead. Zoe did end up helping me with a couple of new moves. Mostly just basic stuff I already knew, but one cool thing, in particular, was called The Zoe Flurry. Which I believed to be the worst sounding name of anything I've ever heard of. Although it was a pretty cool attack. I'll giver that. I may even decide to adopt the move myself, but without the horrible name. Maybe The Kade Crush? That sounded loads better, but I wasn't gonna waste too much time coming up with dumb names for my moves. Because today I had something much better planned. Today, I would finally get my Archery training and I was already getting pumped up thinking about it. I just know I'm going to go out there and…

What separates human from beast is man's ability to innovate. As human beings we are able to communicate through hundreds of languages, create with our hands and think beyond the capabilities previously set by our ancestors. We are always expressing ourselves through new mediums of our own design, and one of the most beautiful, and personal to me is Theatre. If a picture is worth a thousand or in this case 500 words, then the value of a script is immeasurable. There are endless capabilities to what the human mind can imagine and bring life to, while a picture is limited to what is already created on this earth. Theatre, is the most beautiful art form I have ever come across because it brings the hearts of people together. Play writes are given…
