Personal Narrative: I Am An American
I was born to protect this land
And to be proud of what I came from
I am an American
And I can not change that
As much as I can’t change
The color of my skin

America is a land of greed
Red, White and Blue replaced by GREEN
I love my country but hate those men
With insidious grins
Politicians spelt D-E-M-O-N
They say they're here to help
Not you nor me, but men in suits
Who offer dripping red currency
Who knew pachyderms and mules could be so cruel
When it comes to sources of fuel
Home of the almighty dollar
Not of the free
Not now
Not anymore
Once was Just possibly
Day in and day out pondering what could be
The next move in this game of monopoly

Leaving your country is always a difficult decision, and whoever has experienced it understands the sacrifice it entails. When I left Poland at 18, I thought I was going to be in paradise, but to my disappointment it was far from that. I had to learn a new language and work hard to provide for myself. What kept me motivated was the hope for a better future and an independent life.…

My political viewpoint has changed dramatically since I was first introduced to politics. I come from a democratic family, where it is strongly believed that it is the government’s responsibility to care for all people and that the government knows what is best for all people. Every voting season, my parents vote for a democratic president and explain to me the reasoning behind their decision. It was not until I was in the tenth grade that I realized that I did not hold the same political beliefs as my parents. After taking several political quizzes and extensively researching the bevy of political parties, I now know that I am an independent. What is an independent? An independent is an individual politician not affiliated to any political…

It is late evening of May 1, 2011. I am trying as patiently as I possibly can to relax in my chair. I am sitting in a heavy black-painted room in a comfortable brown chair. The chair is at the head of a long table that occupies most of the room. This room happens to be my favorite room in all of the White House. Well anyways, I am sitting in this room...alone...with nervousness circling throughout my body...along with envy...because the United States Navy Seals are currently in Pakistan capturing and killing Osama Bin Laden. I put my hand up to see just about how nervous I am. My hand appears to be shaking more than a knee bobbing up and down, side to side when they really have to go to the bathroom. I have been stressing out all day over how the operation is going to turn out.…

In my American Dream I wanted to be an Orthodontist. To achieve this goal I wanted to attend the University of Memphis. For the first four years to obtain my bachelor’s degree. Then I will go to The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry for four years for dental schooling, and another two years for a post doctoral program for the study of Orthodontics. To do all of this I will have to do more than what I do to get through high school.…

I dislike being asked “Where are you from?” because I do not consider myself from any specific place. I have moved around several times as a child, which has given me the opportunity to meet different kinds of people each from distinct walks of life. Being faced with the challenge of meeting new people has taught how to come out of my comfort zone at any given moment. The experiences I have had in life has caused me to become an outgoing, hardworking, and very multicultural person.…

I am an abnormal person (most of the time in a good way.) My personality is eccentric, along with my hobbies and skills. Much of my life is aberrant from beginning to end. The only thing that is boring is my name, Taylor, which my parents happily gave me. Surprisingly enough, I was not named after anyone, which I find very uninteresting. Taylor was originally a surname meaning “tailor,” but someone in England was so unoriginal that they decided to name their child a surname. I was born in 2002, making me 13 years old. I was born and somewhat raised in Memphis, but I moved shortly thereafter to Bartlett.…

“Brave hearts do not back down.” This quote is special to me because I know people I would consider as brave or a hero, but my top pick would be the soldiers. We can all agree that there is much more that our extraordinary veterans go through in order to make this nation the very best. I believe in an America that offers every child access to a world-class education, gives back to our current and fallen heroes, and that creates a common sense gun law in an effort to save our loved ones.…

America, land of the free and home of the brave, a country strengthened with rights, equality, and justice. For Americans it’s just a regular country, with regular rules and laws, nothing special about it. Although, to immigrants it’s a country to reinterpret their lives, a better life, a life where they’re free to pursue their happiness and follow their dreams. Even though America is a great country, adjusting to a new culture isn’t easy. It took patience, support, understanding, and passion in order for me to balance two different cultures.…

What is your vision for America? In my vision for America I think we could change and improve many things. My vision for America would be my ultimate utopia. First, I think that in america there shouldn’t be any people who are suffering from not having a home or not being able to afford something that is a necessity. Secondly, We would have a cure for all diseases for anyone who might have something simple like a cold or for anyone who might have something as severe as cancer. Lastly, In my vision for America there would be an unlimited amount of jobs for anyone and everyone. Those are a few of the things I would change to fit my vision of America.…

I never thought I’d be an All American. After losing my “sure thing” state finals match, I didn’t think I would ever achieve the title. The loss was a shock after going 38-1 on the regular season with my only loss stemming from a shoulder injury early in a match. I wrestled my way through states with pins, one over opponent who beat me the year earlier, up to face the Chilhowie senior in the finals. I had a three point lead in the first period before I, in non-wrestler vernacular, screwed the pooch. I pushed a move too much and got turned to my back and pinned in the first period.…

Be proud to be an American. Be proud to stand your ground, even if it is stolen it is still there, it is still yours. Your privilege. Your name. You built that, it made us who we are. Are you proud now? Because building ground off of ash is not easy but we did it. We believed. We made that happen. Being able to muster something out of nothing was once told to be impossible. We did the impossible. Are you proud? Because I am proud. And it means something. That's what being an american means to me. What does it mean to…

When we’re kids, we don’t have a single worry in the world. Our priorities are going to school and getting along with the rest of the kids on the playground. We don’t have to worry about taxes, or being judged (for the most part), paying bills, etc. So when do we reach the point where the real world comes in and kicks us in the behind? When do we come to realize who we really are and what our position is in this world? For me, the real world introduced itself at a very young age. And unfortunately I didn’t really understand what was going on at the moment. But for my parents, the situation was quite clear. I became a victim of bullying and racist comments.…
