Personal Narrative: I Am A Marvel Cinematic Universe
I am a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan. Marvel has intricately planned out several years of movies, with each movie corresponding to the other. Because the next installment of the movie franchise, Ant Man, came out this past summer, I was inclined to rewatch all of the Marvel movies in order, so I could have the proper history and background information before seeing the next movie. It would, of course, be puerile to watch the show without a proper preperation of knowledge. It was after watching the fourth movie that I had a sudden revelation of the correspondence between the quality of an institution of higher education and one's intellectual capacity and potential for wisdom. The summer going into my freshman year of highschool I had an

Now this is where I`m supposed to write “all about me”. This is where I become lost. I mean, come on. I wouldn`t know where to start. But I guess the best way to have an idea what makes me tick and what ticks me off is by checking my journal that i fill with endless ramblings about whatever and whoever catches my fleeting fancy or rage. :)…

My story beings like any other, at the moment I took my first breath on July 30th 1998 in Bilisht, Albania. I was born in a small town in the lower region of Albania where my entire family lived with my grandparents under one household. My parents soon came to the realization that the current living situation was incongruous for a new family, such as ours, to thrive. As the result, my parents chose to apply for the government program granting our family access to move into a completely new society with new laws, regulations, political aspects and that was tens of thousands of miles away. Our family, at that instant, had a struck of luck as my mother’s name was drawn for us to move to the greatest country the United States of America.…

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

I don’t know how to begin to define myself in order for you to understand who I truly am. I believe there is more to a person than stories that mould us into who we are today; like when one asks, “Tell me your story," I don’t think about that time when my family broke into two or that time I was diagnosed with my mental illnesses. I think of coffee, because coffee is bitter and bitter people drink coffee, sad people; people with heavy hearts and heavy footsteps, with tangled thoughts, people with anxiety and words left unspoken, people like me. Lonely people drink coffee. I think of the world map I have in my room with thumbtacks marking every country I want to visit. I think of foreign languages, and how beautiful it sounds when words form…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Who am I? That has always been an essential question for as long as I can remember. I never really understood why we had to answer that question along the way, but I’m now a senior at SJPII and I still have no idea who I am. It really bothers me that for 16 years I still haven’t figured out who I am. Constantly going from class to class and making new friends I still can’t pin point who the “real” me is.…

Before the movie even starts, the title of the movie already promotes a message that lies in the title, “Higher Learning.” The title may suggest that, not only are students attending a university to gain more knowledge needed for the career they choose to pursue, but rather, obtain greater knowledge about life and living freely amongst one another without having race or culture boundaries. Students that are entering college are about to embark on a journey that will prepare them for real life adulthood. The title “Higher Learning” implies that being enrolled in college is not only for your academic development but also your social evolution. At the current time in the movie, when there were many race and culture boundaries that created conflict between…

One goes to college to learn, it seems, not to think.” Every student is quick to graduate college and earn a diploma that he or she does not realize the true value of education. It does not matter what one learns in college, as long as he or she applies what he or she learns and question ideas with intellectual approaches. Gerald Graff emphasizes in “Hidden Intellectualism” that "one of the major reasons why school and colleges overlook the intellectual potential of street smarts: the fact that we associate those street smarts with anti-intellectual concerns" (264). People relate education with how much the student excelled academically, rather than by how the student processes the information and applies it to his or her…

In “Credentialing Versus Educating”, the third chapter of Dark Ages Ahead, Jane Jacobs discusses a change in the intent and practice of higher education at universities and colleges. “Credentialing, not educating, has become the primary business of North American universities” (Jacobs 44). The institution of education has shifted its focus from passing on knowledge and teaching students to have critical faculties for the stability and growth of society, to simply certifying individuals in order to be considered for a job. Educating involves the learning of new concepts and gaining proper knowledge while credentialing is focused on obtaining a degree through four years of higher education. Jacobs makes the distinction by outlining that an education and a degree are not the same thing. According to Jacobs, there is an emphasis on selecting job applicants who have desirable qualities such as persistence, ambition, and the ability to cooperate and conform.…

    Why Do We Have College

Menand’s first theory explains that college is a sorting-out mechanism that is based on intelligence. He suggests that college is a “four-year intelligence test”, at the end of which, each student receives a single score in the form of a “G.P.A. that professional schools and employers can trust as a measure of intellectual capacity”. College should be a challenging way to sift through students; a process to find the most academically accomplished students for elite schools and future employers. This theory describes a systematic evaluation of test taking and hoop jumping. Those who favor this viewpoint agree that there are many people that are not prepared for a college education.…

I love big people, they can be so cute. I remember when I first arrived. The bright lights, the welcome committee, with their ear-to-ear smiles beneath their surgical masks — magical — however, I did think the slap on the butt was uncalled for, but bless their hearts, they get so emotional.…

Identity is who a person is. It determines how you act and how people think of you. For example, a person whose identity is bad is often bound for trouble and for others to look down on them, whereas a person with a good identity is often bound for success and treated well by others. A person’s identity can be affected by many things: where he/she was born, the person’s parents, friends and other things. Through my life experiences I have become creative, spirited, and inquisitive.…
