Personal Narrative: I Am A Liberal Classroom
Once I regained my consciousness I found myself in the seat replacing the pale man from before. I noticed a change on my hands. I was no longer brown-skinned, but pale. Deathly pale. Just like the man from before. Perhaps, even more pale. Or maybe it was just the contrast from my original appearance.

After a generous amount of silence has passed, I see a girl enter the room. She was brown skinned the way I once was. She had dark hair and eyes, similar to the color of mine. Or maybe the color I once had. I was colorless now. Just like the rest of them. Something about the girl was unusual. Maybe it was just that she reminded me of, well, me. I was instantly infatuated with her.

We're a liberal classroom so we emphasize equality. With all your scores added together we get a total of 20! We have 4 students so each of you receive 5 points to begin with. See class, we're ALL equal," the teacher happily announces.

"Yay! Me likey when I'm equal. Or else I is the sad," the Asian student from before said, or at least that's what I could make out of what he said.

The teacher whipped around the room and commented on our gender, race, and sexuality. Apparently I'm now sexually ambiguous? What does that mean?

"I'm gay, fat, unhealthy, transgender, Asian, nobody likes me, the pale girl says I smell like meat, and I once watched a bird die," the student commented on his unfortunate lifestyle, however this time he had more to add.

"Congratulation! You won by a total of... 13 privilege points. You get to go on the trip!" The teacher congratulated him.

"Yay! We knew you could do it!" The pale girl exclaimed, applauding him.

I could see the brown-skinned girl getting absolutely flustered. Her eyes were twitching, her lips pouted, her eyebrows furrowed in frustration. I completely disregarded the teacher's warning and took her hand and dashed out the classroom. Funny, the exit works

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

My political viewpoint has changed dramatically since I was first introduced to politics. I come from a democratic family, where it is strongly believed that it is the government’s responsibility to care for all people and that the government knows what is best for all people. Every voting season, my parents vote for a democratic president and explain to me the reasoning behind their decision. It was not until I was in the tenth grade that I realized that I did not hold the same political beliefs as my parents. After taking several political quizzes and extensively researching the bevy of political parties, I now know that I am an independent. What is an independent? An independent is an individual politician not affiliated to any political…

She broke the students into groups and told them one was blue eyes and one was brown eyes. She then proceeded to tell the blue eye group of students that they were superior to the brown eye group of students, and that the brown eye students could get on the playground and had to come in early and couldn’t eat. Then on the next day the brown eye group was superior and got to play on the playground extra and could go eat food. And at the end of the week the teacher talked to the students about what happened and see how they liked getting the treatment they received.…

Growing up in a home that could be characterized as a political battlefield was traumatic. I spent the first decade of my life living peacefully with two left- winged hippie parents. My mother had hair like Rapunzel and my dad worked as a jazz musician. Life was simple- then in came the 80’s. Making a living as a musician in the Catskill Mountains wasn’t quite panning out well for our family. Luckily my parents were both educated and my father went on to teach music rather than play it. Along with a new structured life came a new rigid set of ideologies (for my dad). My father became a gun-toting conservative who would refer to my mother as a “bleeding heart liberal” any chance…

If I were to describe my political ideology, I would consider myself mostly liberal with some independent views. I believe in equality for everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. I think Americans need to be a little more accepting, and open to reaching out and helping those in need. This country needs to continue moving forward and growing, and I do not see that happening with a conservative in charge.…

My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

I own learning was associated to reading the research papers of the other M.Ed. students, as well as through the summative evaluation done by my principal. Reading the very diverse research papers, I gain wonderful information of things I could (and will) implement in my classroom with my ELs. Some examples are related to the use of journaling for various learning opportunities, how big is the influence of motivation in relation to Hispanic males finishing high school, as well as the importance of analyzing prescribed curriculum in order to organize scaffolding activities that will assist ELs. The other learning was connected to the summative evaluation in which my principal mentioned things that I have done throughout the year. He was…

That’s how the children responded when Lindsay Hall had to get in the “special” line to go to her “special reading class” in the other stone building. She didn’t line up like everybody else, and because of that, we knew something just wasn’t right. Lindsay looked sad and couldn’t reply to even say, “No, I’m not dumb.” I observed the mockery, and remember Lindsay’s tears. I’m sure she didn’t want to feel different, but since she didn’t meet the status quo, she never had a sense of belonging. What disability did she have? She had dyslexia and couldn’t process written and oral communication like everyone else. Although resources were readily available, the system isolated her from what was considered…

There is a mix of females and males in the classroom, but during the class there was a never a time that she had just females work together and just males together or she never had just girls at a table and just boys at a table. She always was mixing them up and had them go with students that were around the same level as them. She does not give girls pink folders and boys blue folders, all the students just have the same color folders and they were yellow, red, or black. There was no gender specific resources for the students and they were all treated equally by Ms. Wilson in the…
