Personal Narrative: How Pop Culture Changed My Life
Everyone grows out of things as we age into teen or adult years. No longer do we watch children's shows or ride our bikes with training wheels. Even the music groups we once adored, whom plagued our walls with their posters have been lost in our growth. Now we watch mature themed shows and ride our bikes without the thought of tipping over. The walls in the bedroom are covered in new obsessions, shaping to the current pop culture. I have been through these phases, just like anybody else, however, I find myself experiencing this more often than not. My family has always moved, whether it be in Ohio or all the way to Florida. During my elementary school year in Ohio, my parents sadly divorced. The split caused my brother and me to move so that …show more content…
Well I didn’t truly believe that until I met Stevi. She is the complete opposite of me. She is outgoing, strong, courageous, and a rebel, while I define myself as a shy, quiet-natured, and simply, normal rule follower. We started our friendship that first day in third grade and continued it on until sixth grade. Those three years were filled with adventure and thankfully no depressing moments. That was until my mom told me the news, which changed my life forever. My mother received a job in Florida, 1,130 miles away from my best friend. We were both devastated and yet again, I hoped we could stay in contact. But unlike before in my life our friendship had a different outcome, that is because I visited her and my father every summer and winter …show more content…
Yet again, I wait for another best friend to come along. Don’t get me wrong! Stevi and Miranda are still to this day my best friends, but it’s hard for us to have that close relationship we used to have. The distance can be overcome easily through texting, but it’s hard to personally connect through a device. Nothing could ever replace the moments and the relationship I had with past friends, nevertheless, I still seek to gain more friends to have the same experience with. As they say “You can never have too many

Now this is where I`m supposed to write “all about me”. This is where I become lost. I mean, come on. I wouldn`t know where to start. But I guess the best way to have an idea what makes me tick and what ticks me off is by checking my journal that i fill with endless ramblings about whatever and whoever catches my fleeting fancy or rage. :)…

My project is an original song that I wrote using only the electric guitar. The song begins with three parts singing together. The first of these parts is the echoing bass notes of D and G, driving the interval of a perfect fourth. The second is a muted, rhythmic line that consists of four notes and repeats on the beat. The third is simply a high F# played using the technique of harmonics and highly effected by reverb. These three parts play together on a loop throughout the entire piece, and represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There is no real defining start to these parts, which represents the idea of a God without beginning. What is played thereafter (what might be considered the melody)…

Over the years that I’ve been at Burdick, I’ve gained many great friends, but I also lost a few. Only a few selective of them, I tell my secrets to. For example, Kaiden, Coreena, Dakota, Elysium, Joelle, Jose, and Isaiah. They’re the greatest friends anyone could ask for and have. They’re loyal, truthful, understanding, funny, witty, sarcastic, and just plain awesome. I have them to thank for making ordinary moments, extraordinary. They’re always there when I want to hang out or vent out my feelings. They put in that extra effort to understand me for who I am, not caring the slightest bit about my flaws and imperfections. And if I ever need to shed some tears, I know that at least one of them will be there to comfort me. There are times where…

Rachmaninoff stated, “Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.” Essential to all nationalities, generations, and people, music can make your soul soar, put you to sleep, or bring you to your knees in tears. All din and clamor goes silent. Every eye is riveted on the conductor. The baton lifts. Suddenly, in a myriad of melodies, harmonies, timbre, and texture, a whole new realm is unraveled. The extraordinary feeling of unwinding and renewing your mind by listening to the flow of music is inexpressible. Nothing compares.…

I enjoyed a very close relationship with my grandfather. He was an avid storyteller and ensured that he told me one when putting me to sleep. My grandfather’s stories were insightful, often revolving around the themes of honesty and compassion. He constantly implored me to observe the above virtues and many others making my life more meaningful. Although all my grandfather’s stories contained moral lessons that would guide me in life, one act of charity stands out and had a profound impact on my young life.…

When I was young, I was one of those kids who changed their minds on what they wanted to be when they grew up approximately every five minutes. However, this changed when I discovered acting. Music has changed my life forever. In middle school, I was extremely timid and exceptionally quiet. I was never involved in school activities or sports. I showed up, did my work, and went home. One day, I heard about the band program and thought to myself “That sounds cool.” The sound of the bright brass trumpet, jazzy sounding saxophone, and the ravishing tone of the flute. I registered for band class through my school administration. Enthusiastic, yet, anxious. On the first day of band class I discovered many different instruments. Different designs, sounds, and techniques of playing. My band teacher played a short clip of each different instrument being played by competent musicians, with the intention of having us pick the instrument that…

My friend told me about this scholarship program called Carpe Mundi who helps low income, first generation students travel at a low cost. It was hard to believe and I did not have high expectations at the time but I took a chance. I got accepted and the whole process, from orientation to boarding a plane, did not seem real until my 2nd day in Quito, Ecuador. The feeling of a dream turning into reality just happened so fast and felt surreal. Through Carpe Mundi, I was able to complete a 3 month service learning abroad in Ecuador and…

They have free stations and apps with now day technology that allows you to enjoy music with no cost. It does not matter if you have no experience about rhythm, beat, or tone. Music is purely the entertainment of enjoying something that can bring us all together. There are many different genres of music and it can be interpreted in many forms as well. We all have different tastes in what we each like, so by experiencing different varieties we may be allowed to be similar and different at the same time with the people all around us. I use music for many reasons; whether to change my emotion from sad to happy or from happy to excited. People are always talking about moments. Those split seconds of your life where you feel like nothing can touch you, like nothing can go wrong. But no one ever talks about what happens after those moments. When you come hurdling full speed back down to earth, and find yourself one again in reality, looking dazedly around and trying to figure how for that one moment everything could have been perfect, and how it could change so suddenly.…

I believe your friends can sometimes be more of a family then your actual family. It's all because they choose to stand by your side. Your family is forced to. I can remember this one time I was wondering my neighborhood thinking about my dad and my great aunt. My dad passed away when I was only 7 months old, my great aunt when I was in 4th grade. I remember thinking about what we would be doing and whether or not we would still be together or not. As I am walking around and thinking my friend that I have known for 10 years bumps into me. We hung out all of the time. Whether we were just sitting around each other houses or hanging out at a park but we spent most of our time on the bike path. He name is Kenny. As Kenny bumped into me he saw the tears, that I had yet to notice myself, he stopped me. He had turned me around and gave me the biggest hug ever. After I felt his arms incased me I fell into a world of tears. Surrounded by sadness and dispare, tears raining down upon my heart and washing away all hopes of happiness. The waterworks had finally begun at that point, finally someone would actually listen to me. He had given everything I needed, he made me feel better. It was right around the time I was slowing down my waterworks when Kenny had asked me what was wrong. In the middle of my explanation of how I felt like my dad and great aunt hated me for who I was turning into, all he did was start hugging me again, I couldn't help but start crying again. After our little talk we became substantially closer, now we can talk about anything.…

“Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it’s all over,” said by Gloria Naylor, a U.S novelist.…
