Personal Narrative: Homicide In The Workplace
My alarm clock went off at 7:00 a.m. I didn’t have to be at work for another three hours, but by the time I blow dried my hair straight, found something to wear that actually still fit, made breakfast, and got my two year old ready for preschool; I was walking out the door by 8:30 a.m. This was a daily routine that would buy me enough time to drop off my daughter at school, pick up a cup of coffee, and still have a few minutes to enjoy it while it was hot. I unlocked the front door and rushed towards the back of the boutique to shut off the alarm. All of a sudden I stumbled upon something. “What the hell?” as I looked down “You’ve got to be kidding me!” What I had stumbled over was 2 large boxes full of Tommy Bahama merchandise we had received on Friday. It was now Monday, and I clearly recalled telling Cindy …show more content…
Nir looked like your typical Israelite, tall, dark, and handsome. He had that Jewish business mentality, where if you’re not bringing money in, he doesn’t need you. So I knew he would not appreciate Cindy’s behavior. I told him the situation that had unfolded with her. Nir then told me that earlier in the day; the restaurant manager next door called him and told him that around 1:30 a.m. as he was throwing some trash into the dumpster; he saw Cindy inside the boutique’s storage, which is right next to the dumpster. He found it odd to see her inside the storage when the boutique closes at 10 p.m. on Sundays. Nir then said he went over the security footage on the cameras inside the boutique and in the storage room. This was news to me since the employees were told the cameras were nonworking. He then continued to tell me that on the security footage he saw Cindy fill up two large garbage bags with clothes and put them in the trunk of her car which was pulled up in front of the storage. Nir was obviously upset with the betrayal, since the very next day, he fired Cindy and decided to press charges against

Growing up I had two loving parents, they always wanted the best possible for me. School was always challenging for me. I never liked it, and I never had a good work ethic. It started when I was young, my parents never made me do chores, and they always rewarded me for minimal efforts of work, and it did not help me in the long run. I had a very easy life growing up, but being spoiled does not help when you become an adult. It’s very hard to just gain a work ethic, it takes a lot of time and effort.…

Robert Singer, made Brittany’s life unbearable at the office by constantly staring at her picture of her in her bathing suit, making inappropriate comments about her chest, taking and altering her bathing suit photo to where she appeared topless, and saving her picture as his screen saver without her permission. She told Robert to stop with the inappropriate comments, told fellow co-workers about the harassment that was taking place, and even went to speak to her supervisor Dwayne about Robert’s inappropriate behavior but nothing seemed to deter him from his harassment. During the conversation that Brittany was having with her supervisor, she was informed by an off-the-collar remark from Dwayne that Robert had harassed a fellow co-worker before and hasn’t seemed to learn his lesson from the previous situation. Her supervisor informed her that he would take care of the matter and speak with Robert. Robert, took down the offensive photos from his screen saver but never stopped the inappropriate comments towards Brittany.…

As a police detective, I see a lot of things ordinary men can’t even fathom—serial killers, rapists, drug lords—but nothing could have prepared me for the Dyer Street case. It started out like any other home invasion: a local woman went to bed with her family when all of a sudden she heard a scream coming from her son’s bedroom. When she entered the room she found her son on the floor, unresponsive.…

on a less then pleasant day the weather was cold and rainy so before I left the safety of my car I turned my collar up to face the cold and made a bee line to the store so fast it would put Usain Bolt to shame. When I walked in the store I was greeted by the smell of coffee and sound of The Rolling Stones song Monkey Man playing over the store speakers with the owner of the store john singing along to the song and throwing his arms up like a monkey. As soon as you walk into the store your face to face with a giant rack of used DVDs ranging from Driving Miss Daisy to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre the store itself is not very big on the left side of the store is a shelf contain records from Abba to Rob Zombie on the right side is a shelf holding the cds. I was immediately welcomed by john who sitting down in behind his cash register with a sign on it that read “No Personal Check” behind him was a giant poster of Frank Zappa which seemed like one of his most prized positions john had. John had on a tie dyed rolling stones shirt john had looked tried and he seemed to be discomfort later I found out he looked that way due to having MS.…

She’s what some of you might call a “packrat.” She sees something likes and there’s a good deal on it, you better believe she will pick it up to carry home. Janice likes to collect old antique type things like, flower pots, vases, clocks and things of that sort, but this certain particular purchase that Janice makes on this day I’m pretty sure will change her mind about always picking up everything that you see and that, that type of shopping isn’t always best. The local Salvation Army is where Janice frequents often. They’re close and that’s really convenient for her, they don’t tend to be too pricy, and they also tend to have some pretty good deals going on. It was an ordinary summer day in Georgia. There were only a few people in the store shopping along with Janice. She happened to be looking at the glass items, like the typical flower vases that the local florist has on sale for like 65 cents. When she looked behind some of them she spotted this beautiful 20” crystal vase. It was very heavy when she picked it up and it had the Mikasa label on the bottom of it, so therefore this was some good quality stuff. It was 100% Australian Crystal for only $5. She was so excited and she thought she had found the deal of the day little did she know. On the next day the vase was sitting in the kitchen along with Janice while her 14 year old daughter Saralyn was in her room. Janice thought she saw someone walk behind her she…

The author David Simon writes an informative article on the topic of a homicide unit in Baltimore. He writes this to let the citizens of Baltimore know how interrogation works. His book, Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets gives us a very detailed view on this. Homicide detectives work hard to get information out of suspects. They like to give their suspects a false hope of becoming free if they give up the info. They call this hope an imaginary window, an escape hatch in which they might be able to crawl out of. When done correctly the detectives can get all the information they need from the person. The guiltiest person is constantly the first person looking for an out; after all, if you’re not guilty what are you scared of? The interrogation is closely related to a performance, it that helps the detectives get “common ground” with his suspects when non-exist. When a suspect gets comfortable, he/she is more likely to talk. This “performance” is highly important because in Baltimore, a…

In May of 2013 my grandma was in front of my little cousins preschool waiting for school to be let out when she was stabbed. Her killer’s name, Nahn at the time I only knew his first name. It wasn’t until a few days later that I discovered his last name it was a name I knew well Dong. The reason I didn’t recognize his name was because I only referred to him as Uncle. When I joined the police department, I knew I wanted to be a part of something great. I wanted to leave a legacy and make an impression on others. I was the first in my family to choose a career in law enforcement, so initially, I was unaware of the challenges this career field came with. My mom was a teacher, and my dad worked in the printing business. Both were successful in their chosen fields, but they were blind to the demands required for a fulfilling career in law enforcement. To be successful, I would need to be observant of those around me who had found success. I would need to mirror their ways and incorporate their habits into my own. I would need to learn from their failures. Most importantly, I would need to learn what made them…

Tom had been on the go since six O'clock that morning, had confirmed that a brutal rape and murder of a woman was the work of a serial-killer, had interview the victims friends and acquaintances, and spent hours going over phone and computer records, without coming up with one damn piece of evidence, or anything he believed had led him closer to finding a direction in which to turn. The only break, and the only food, he'd gotten all day was the quick lunch with Lila, that had been mostly business, and the Detective was tired, frustrated, and impatient.…

This week reminded me how amazing and important my job is. Friday was a busy day at the office; I was rushing to finish my work so I could leave on time. As I was about to leave I received a phone call from a hiring manager (Mark) with NOAA. Mark had questions about the interview process and was calling to speak to one of my colleagues. Unfortunately, my colleague was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for another week. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to go but I could hear the frustration in Mark’s voice. Instead of leaving, I spent almost an hour listening to Mark’s concerns, answering his questions, and I explained how the federal hiring process works. At the end of our conversation, Mark thanked me for my time and he told me…

The police said it was a robbery and that my father car was found stripped and left up on blocks. My father was barely hanging on for dear life when one of the attorneys from his old job came to tell me that his disability would now be cut off because there would be no way to tell if his injuries was from the job or from the robbery. Oh, but if that wasn’t adding salt to an already open wound, Mack Cannoli arrived to ask me how was I going to pay my father’s debt now that he can’t. What the man had offered as a way to help pay the debt had me taking a swing at him, but his men stopped me. Luckily, the police officer who was investigating the robbery walked in.…

I woke up that morning and felt happy, I didn’t know why, I figured it was ‘cause I had too much coffee the night before, but then it dawned on me, Jenifer Lawrence, the girl on fire from the Hunger Games, was coming to hang out with me that day!!! Holy crap!!! My house was a mess, I needed to clean it up, and my parents had gone away!!! I was sooo stressed out. First thing is first. I need to take a shower, so I get some clean fancy clothes, darn it, all my clothes are dirty, I’ll just wash them while I take a shower. My washing machine takes a good 30 minutes to be done washing, then comes the drying. While my clothes are washing I’m going to take a good long shower, I turn on my bathroom lights and get in the shower. When I get out of the shower I go take my clothes out of the washing machine and put them on, okay, operation “clean the house for JL” had started. I began by cleaning my bedroom, I first had to get my vacuum cleaner, I started vacuuming, that took me at least 2 hours because I ended up vacuuming the entire house. I was sooo tired when I finished, I had 6 hours left before Jennifer Lawrence arrived, what should I do to impress her? I mean besides talking about physics? I decided I’d make some coffee for the two of us, while all of this happens I remember that the A/C turns on every 30 minutes for 30 minutes, so it is on for 12 hours a day, then I remember to wash my dishes, so I put them in the dishwasher, which takes about an hour. We might watch a movie so maybe I should make some popcorn, so I use my Popcorn maker, that takes about 30 minutes to make. I look out my window and I see that I kind of need to mow the lawn, so I get my lawnmower, that takes me an hour, 5 hours till Jennifer gets here. I decide to make us some pizza, I get all of the ingredients, but I need to unfreeze the chicken in the microwave, when I get everything in the pizza I put it in the oven which will take an hour, I’m nervous because I only…
