Personal Narrative: Homelessness
About 2 hours later, my family finally realized that I was missing. They searched for me for the rest of the day! Mom looked all through the house, while Dad and my sister looked elsewhere. The hunt went on for another thirty minutes, and then they got tired and took a break. I spent those two and a half hours sitting on the swing in the backyard with a book in my paw, because I couldn’t figure out how to get down. However, drow spells are only temporary, because they don’t usually need much time to put anyone in chains. By the end of the day, I was turned back into my human form. When my family resumed the search, I situated myself on my bed and started reading. They never did find out that I was that stray

A couple years ago, I participated in my football team’s monthly Feed-the-Homeless trip. During the time, my coach made the trip it manually for each player to participate in the trip at least once. I decided to participate during June, knowing that I had to do at least once.…

A life in the ghetto is no life at all. Especially in Molesville, Pennsylvania, a town left in the dust by modern society. Ever since I can remember my mother has been sick, this terrible place is the cause. With little sanitation the streets are rat infested and the poor die young. We had not had enough money, when my father left us, to afford food to live with, let alone go get help from a doctor. After my mother’s pregnancies she gradually became more and more sick. I thought my mother was in pain from the way she sat on her bed constantly crying. That theory was proven one day when her will to fight died. She transformed into a being of hatred. Her heart turned as black as the night. She was different, the mother I once knew dead. Although I knew she was still there, deep, deep down waiting for me to rescue her from herself. In almost an instant I decided the only way to save her was to earn the money for…

On a cold, brisk snowy night in New York City little did I know I was about to make an encounter with someone I'd never forget. I was waiting for a friend in McDonald's so she could get her food and stay inside for warmth, when I realized someone not too far behind me was talking. Startled, I turned around I saw a homeless man wrapped in torn up blankets, shaggy, undone brown hair and trying to keep warm like the rest of us. My first instinct was to stay clear until a woman had drooped her purse and money rolled around his feet, as he bent down to retrieve the money to all our disbelief he handed her the money and told her something extraordinary. As he handed the woman back her money with shaky hands, he looked down and exclaimed how,"Money…

It’s no fun being homeless. Everyday, I wake up, I am forced to spend another meaningless morning roaming around without a purpose, and another meaningless afternoon fighting for a spot in a shelter. Some days are better than others. Like on days that I make it to a decent shelter, I am blessed with an abundant amount of food, access to clean water, a warm bed that hasn’t been used, and a story from the book of life, aka, the bible. Life is good on those days, and no amount of rejection from the streets can take away my smile when I’m inside a place full of love.…

A couple of years ago I got kicked out of my house. Homeless, I had literally no where to stay or anyone to turn to. I had never opened up to anyone about my home life situation. Due to my upbringing in a predominantly rich, christian neighborhood I didn’t feel like anyone would understand my abusive parents or try to help. When I got kicked out I was sure that was the end of the line for me.…

The service that I did with the poor was at St. Vincent De Paul. I took the bus with a friend after school on a random Thursday with Ms. Reuter driving the bus, which I didn’t expect her to know how to do at all. It was my first time working there, because I had only worked at the distribution center the year before for confirmation. When we arrived we all signed in and they put the people who had been there before in their normal locations. My friend and I got split up, with me in charge of sorting all of the donated canned foods and my friend went over to move pallets around. While I was working with one of the staff there, I made friends with some freshmen that were also working with me. They started calling me silly names like “broth boy” because at some point I got in charge of sorting canned broths.…

Homelessness is a subject that has many different views, and opinions. It is a subject that gets little attention and funding in order to broaden its truth and its needs to the public eye. Homelessness is a subject that is a convenient place to put unsolved unwanted social and political problems within our communities. Its depth in our society is not completely known and or understood; therefore its solution continues to be a mystery delayed. The stigmatisms are many and the sad but true community laws, rules, and quick fixes are anything but kind in the mind of a compassionate worker. The research of homelessness doesn 't even begin to reach into the subject in a fair and or complex way; however I will attempt to bring into the light what different truths, and community solutions have been given on the subject of homelessness.…

What I was attempting to write was me surviving in a community that I am sometimes not accepted in. In my narrative, I described a particular event that happened in a specific community where I was treated differently from the people around me. I think that the teacher wanted me to analyze different ideas to show differences between discourse communities. What I struggled with the most with was showing rather than telling in my narrative. Adding details and scenery to the story is something I found challenging because I am not good at describing things. I tried to show rather than tell and I added more details but I found this as a struggle because I didn’t know what language to use to describe my surroundings. My favorite sentences in my narrative are “His gaze was burning through my flesh, creating a sensation of sweat and heat. My friends and I tried walking quickly to lose the trail of the security guard but he barely…

I found the tile of the book is the perfect match for this book. It really does show the true meaning of being evicted. I was honestly kind of ifty when I first open up the book I honestly thought it was going to be boring. It really does show true hardship living in property and it also shows how people go on with their life. I believe I would of went crazy if I was being evicted out of my house. I wouldn't know what to do , it will be exteremly hard to come up with extra money or the thoughts going threw a person head on what to do next. What would happened if they don't have any sources to get them help ? Or all the homeless shelters are full up ?. I just can't image people thoughts once they get a eviction notice. Also , I image…

The moment I looked out the window of the car and my eyes turned to the row of homeless people weaving its way through the traffic begging for money, I jumped out of my seat. It was my first visit to India after leaving the country for the United States. The homeless people's’ hands were making weird gestures and thumping the windows of the honking cars. I could not digest what I was seeing! While reaching out to an old woman to give her some money, I thought about what non homeless people could do to help those without a home and basic needs. Then, I asked myself a question. Why not give them something that will be with them forever and help them out of their poverty and teach them valuable skills? After all, a mountain of…

Homelessness is a pressing issue throughout the entire world. It affects people of all ages, genders, and races. The official definition from Google of homeless is “(of a person) without a home, and therefore typically living on the streets.” People who are homeless usually do not choose their homelessness. In fact, many people are pushed into this status due to many different reasons, such as gentrification or just difficulty finding a job. Walking down the Market Street of San Francisco, a bustling city, one would find many homeless begging, walking, or chatting with other homeless. They each have their own story behind their homelessness, and their own hardships. Women, in particular, have different needs and sufferings; they are more prone…
