Personal Narrative: Home Life After High School
The road for my junior year was definitely somewhere in Georgia on a dirt path through the hills, a bump doesn’t really do it justice. To Begin this year was not the greatest at home, my parents and I got into it a few times one of which ended in me attempting to live independently, getting my first job, and having to return home. A few weeks later a night when going out with two of my buddies, we came back to our car getting robbed startling the robbers as we approached they began shooting at us and my friend took a bullet to the stomach luckily missing his main organs, he recovered well and is doing great now. This shook my focus on school and oriented it more to figuring out what life was about and finding peace with it after seeing such terror. These events over that school year effectively killed my academic motivation …show more content…
My home life besides the occasional shindig has been really great, they have taught me my best and worst qualities. From how to treat others too how to do my taxes. They have covered all the bases, I will miss them when I get to live at your amazing campus hopefully. I choose to apply to UCF because I see it every day, it’s not the campuses I see. It’s the result, both my parents are intelligent goal oriented people with degrees from UCF, I respect them so I respect the institution that educated them. I feel I have a variety of unique characteristics that I could contribute to the UCF community. These are a strong public speaking background due to years in scouting and running the troop as the SPL (This is the main youth leader) or assistant (Second in charge) for a few terms. Also time management skills, Group management, planning of events, excellent work ethic, and outdoors skills. Another potential contribution is my interests in starting my own businesses, this brings me to people with similar interests and

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

Overcoming these challenges at pivotal points of transition can impel the individual to develop essential character qualities and skills for surmounting adversity. My transition into high school was momentous. Here I knew that the decisions I made would likely have a strong impact on my future. Therefore, I had to be meticulous about the extracurricular activities I wanted to be involved in. This mindset allowed me to stay focused and determined because I wasn't focused on going to the next party or the new music that was out. I cared solely about the legacy I left behind. That is why I decided to run for student government at the end…

My metamorphosis came about when I entered high school. My English teacher assigned a project in which we began mapping out our high school experiences so that they attract the attention of our desired colleges. After class, I opened up to her about how I did not have any direction in life. I had no clue what I wished to be or even why I was going to school. To my surprise, she didn’t ridicule me. She simply asked me to recall a time that inspired me when I was a child. It could be anything from a superhero movie to the first time I learned about the planetary system. Out of habit, I claimed that I was never inspired by anything. She then retorted that if that were the truth, why was I still being driven to exist. Without purpose, creatures lose the will to carry on so something had to have incited my passion to keep me active for all these years. To this day I am amazed by how a simple phrase could move…

I didn't grow up in the most conventional household. My parents both worked and we consistently had babysitters and nannies taking care of us most of my childhood. My mom was the “breadwinner” she had always made significantly more than my dad and there was really no reason for my dad to work in the first place, he really just did it because he loved it. As my 4 brothers and I got older it got progressively harder on my parents being away from home so much. When a job opportunity with less hours and a sizable amount of money came to my mom she was quick to consider it. She eventually made her decision, consulting my dad very little, she made the decision to move across the country to a place we all had never been to.…

I remember when they kicked us out. It was only a couple of weeks ago. We Indians were minding our own business when the troops first came. They dragged us out of our tents and sent us walking with only the clothes on our back. My family decided to go to the Oklahoma region along with our tribe. And so here we are, walking through forests, woods, and plains on The Trail of Tears, looking for our destination. We have been walking since, and our clothing can do nothing against the harsh rain, snow, and coldness.…

High school is one of the biggest transitions in a person's early life. You go from being at the top in your school to the bottom. For me, it was very hard to adjust to this change. On my first day of high school, I walked into first period so nervous I thought I was going to get sick. This is much like what happened during my transition into middle school. On the first day at Mazzuchelli, right before the first class began, I threw up all over the floor of the classroom. I’m not a big fan of change. To make matters worse, the first week of high school was outrageously hot. The combination of the heat and my nerves made me sweat uncontrollably. At the time, I felt very self conscious of sweating during class. As bad as these first few days…
