Personal Narrative: Graffiti In The Woods
Would you ever expect to see graffiti in the woods? My sisters and I went on a walk in the woods by our house. We walked in the woods and smelled the strong scent of sap dangling from the pine trees. I knew that we would see some animals on our walk in the woods. I looked to my left and saw some deer roaming in the cornfield with a few bunnies next to them. We kept walking and we saw a giant cement wall with tons of graffiti . It was so cool looking at the graffiti art on that wall because it had bright colors; like purple, pink, blue, red and many different colors. After we looked at the wall of graffiti for a while, we decided to walk back home.

Another time I went exploring was when my family and I went to downtown Rockford. We went to Rockford because my dad works out there and since the weather was beautiful we thought it was a good day to do it. When we walked by all the cute little stores we could all hear the splashing of the water hitting the rocks in the nearby river. After we were done shopping, we decided that it was a good time to eat some lunch. I knew that the pizza was going to be really good because of the smell of it. We followed the scent to the restaurant down the street. I had a fun time admiring the town and can’t wait to go back again.

We started by going on a boat from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island. When we arrived there we rented bikes to ride around the island. After that we decided to go ziplining at a Starbucks. I realized that ziplining wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. The coolest thing that I saw there was the arch rock; it was so fascinating because it was all real stone. You could see the gorgeous bright blue lake through the hole in the rock. It was so beautiful that we all decided to take a photo in front of the

The outside activity that I chose to do was to visit a museum. The museum in which I visited was the Brandywine River Museum. This museum is located in Chadds Ford PA, which is right outside of Philadelphia, and like the name says it sits right along the Brandywine River. I went to this fine art museum with my sister who lives in the area and we did not take a guided tour, instead we just walked around on our own time and were able to talk about the paintings with each other and express our likes and dislikes of a certain picture or sculpture. The two major collections in this museum were the Jamie Wyeth collection and the Andrew Wyeth: Lines of Thought collection. There was also a heritage collection. The museum itself was in a very beautiful building and the view of the Brandywine River made the experience at the museum much better because there were some pieces in the museum that were similar to the landscape of the outside, which is thought was nice because you could look at a painting then look outside and they almost looked alike due to the painting being done so well.…

Just for extra fun we drove to Chicago and stayed there for two nights. We explored downtown Chicago, all the amazing buildings. We even got to go into the old Sears Tower, which was something that I think everyone needs to see. It's probably one of the best sights I've ever seen, other than the fact I've only seen a good view going down Quincy hill near my hometown.…

The word "graffiti" is derived from the Latin term "graphium" which means "to write". Graffiti evolved during ancient times but first impacted on modern society in the late 1960's, when political activists used it as a medium of revolt against governing powers. Thereafter, individual artists began to gain recognition.…

Everyone has their own community or organization for which they belong to. Within that community you tend to find who you are and what you are about. For me I found my identity in being an outdoors man. Being an outdoors man at my young age seems to be rare at this day, but that doesn’t prevent me from doing something I love and appreciate. Growing up with my family full of avid outdoors men helped influence me and only made my identity stronger.…

Growing up in rural Kansas was boring. Especially since I grew up in the seventies. There were no cell phones or game systems to occupy my time. My family had an old black and white television set. I loved to watch The Price is Right in the days before Bob Barker’s hair turned white. After the show was over, the only way to kill time was to play outside and wander down to the creek that ran parallel to our property. There was a secret trail buried in the wall of trees that lined our two acre yard. My brother and I would slide down the trail, landing on the dirt banks like explorers on a mission. Sometimes we would hunt for crawdads under rocks. Other times we would take our poles and fish. We never went into the water after the time I got bit by a gar.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

Growing up in the Deer Run area I detested wilderness. I went to an elementals school by the name of Pete Gallego; it is located on the outskirts of Eagle Pass and we didn't have to go far to see vast wilderness. To the students of Pete Gallego Elementary, wilderness was a barren wasteland that only homed rattlesnakes and hares. We saw it every day at recess; there were mesquite trees, more mesquite tree and believe it or not a few hundred more mesquite trees. They weren’t even the green ones; they had this dirty grey hue to them, as if they had been bleached by years of children’s tears. So when my sixth grade teacher gave us the project of, “take time out of your day to look at and appreciate nature.” I was livid; I was not going to walk around this desert and risk my life to appreciate sadness and sorrow. Little did I…
