Personal Narrative: Going To New York City
I have always longed to go see what lays outside my hometown. Although it is not anywhere to being a small town I have seen every street and alleyway that is in and surrounds San Antonio. Ever since I could remember I was always begging my parents to go out of town, maybe even out of state, just so I could experience another place besides the one I was currently living in. Although I loved it, I wanted to see what else the world has in store for me. It wasn't until my junior I finally got my wish, our theater department was going to New York City.

Going to New York City was life changing, to say the least. The only two stops we had all week was to check into the hotel on the first day and to check of the hotel the last, other than that it

My life changed in a blink of an eye, the moment I turned sixteen years old. My parents decided, that it was better for my future that I finish high school in America. I was thrilled, but at the same time I knew coming to America meant starting over. Leaving my country, my family, my friends, and my culture was the hardest thing I had to do in my life. After living two years away from parents, now I can say that the sacrifice was worth it.…

I grew up in Vietnam and accepted Vietnam education during my childhood. It was July 19, 2011 when my parents had the opportunity to come to America as immigrants. I have great appreciation for my grandparents and parents because they gave up everything to come to America. They did this to give their children a better life and education. I still remember the day that I left my country; it was a beautiful memory that I won’t ever forget. The plane took off at 5:00 am, so we had to arrive at the airport at 3:00 am. All of my family was there with us, we were hugging and crying. It took all my strength and courage to keep from crying that day; I had to control my feelings. I couldn’t cry because if I cried it would’ve been too hard to say goodbye. Finally, I couldn’t control my tears; they raced down…

I don’t travel very much at all but my parents managed to send me on the trip as a kind of graduation gift, a great traveling experience and the sightseeing part of the trip was amazing. We went toured all over the city, went to see plays, and visited a lot of famous places. I had only seen New York on TV or in pictures but I loved being able to actually go there. Just watching TV or seeing pictures on a screen cannot compare at all to actually standing at the top of the Rockefeller Center and being able to see all of Manhattan and the surrounding area as far as you can see, the same can be said about Times Square. Going to these two places were some of my favorite things that we did, along with seeing the Blue Man Group, going to Chinatown, and walking up and down Fifth Avenue. I had a great time actually being able to see and experience everything for myself, but there are more reasons as to why I loved that trip so much.…

I have heard many people around me saying that you should go walk the Brooklyn Bridge at least once and I never have a chance to fulfill it. Through this opportunity, I called my friend up to accompany me to walk the Bridge for the first time. Based on the information from the history of the United States, the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883 and considered as an engineering marvel for that time. It remains as one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. During mid-1800s, the ferries connected Manhattan and Brooklyn. Ferries was a major convenience transportation for us, the people of that day were used to oars and sails to ride boats. These faster, more reliable ferries helped Brooklyn grow until the bridge was build. When…

Let me start off with my mother's journey to America. It was 1985 when her parents decided it was time for a fresh start. It was very difficult to come to America legally, so they made their journey by traveling to other countries. They left Cuba and traveled to Spain where my grandfather found a job as a farmer. They lived in Spain for almost 2 years before they gathered enough resources to travel to Mexico. The journey from Mexico to the USA was very easy for them because they had a family member who knew their way around. They struggled for many years in America but soon became legal citizens. My mother later on went to college and completed her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Miami. My grandparents purchased the…

As a child I have always wanted to help other people. When I was 8 my parents decided to separate. At the time, my mother decided to move my sister and I away from Chicago. My mother packed our luggage and decided to move us to Detroit. That wasnt the only time we moved, we moved four times while I was growing up, all over the country and even to another continent. Eventually we had to leave our mom in Nigeria and my sister and I went to Detroit. When we got to Detroit my aunt didn't hesitate to make us feel comfortable. It was just something about it,I still didn't feel right. I called my mother one day crying to her and explaining how we didn't like being there. After talking to her, I felt that it was time to go back to Chicago. I called my dad, (knowing I haven’t spoke/seen him for many years) and explained to him the situation on how we felt uncomfortable in Detroit.…

America, land of the free and home of the brave, a country strengthened with rights, equality, and justice. For Americans it’s just a regular country, with regular rules and laws, nothing special about it. Although, to immigrants it’s a country to reinterpret their lives, a better life, a life where they’re free to pursue their happiness and follow their dreams. Even though America is a great country, adjusting to a new culture isn’t easy. It took patience, support, understanding, and passion in order for me to balance two different cultures.…

I am sure it happened as easily as this: We were sitting around the garage shooting the bull during a cold winter snap. Thoughts turned to motorcycle rides and things spring and summer. For once, it wasn’t me. Mrs. K was the one to mention going to California. We hadn’t taken a trip the summer before, and she said, “We ought to ride to California and take the PCH along the coast.” Probably, no one jumped up and started packing, but several certainly starting thinking. One mention leads to another mention which leads to final plans. For me, it was a dream I have had since I watched Then Came Bronson and spent my time reading On the Road. For all of us, we researched the trip and found places and things…

It all started when we left from the hotel around five o’clock, hoping to get to the CN Tower on time. We were on vacation in Toronto in mid July, we had just arrived here a day ago from Niagara Falls. When we left we would have never imagined that this would be one of the longest walks some of us have taken. Pleasantly, we left for the CN Tower, which we thought couldn’t be a great amount of distance from our hotel. We were wrong!…

New York is one of the United States most known cites. It is also known for it's sights and attractions. New York has always been my second home since my first home (New Orleans) was struck by a natural disaster. Before I moved back to New Orleans I gained friendships and built on them. Ever since 2008 I've been vacationing in New York for at least one month in each summer. It's something about that 2009 vacation I will never forget. It was overall fun and I had a blast. My 2009 vacation to New York was my best vacation because of the relationships I built on, the parties, and the fashion.…
