Personal Narrative: Girls Golf Team
I couldn't be more excited to finally play on a girls golf team starting this next Monday! After having three concussions ending my soccer career, my dad came to me and suggested I join the golf team. As a freshman, I joined the boys team at Slinger High School. Most of the guys accepted the idea of a girl playing with them. Many helped me out and treated me like any other teammate, which definitely calmed my nerves for the first few weeks. I competed in almost all the matches. The first few matches were very scary because I got many strange looks from other teams. My teammates were always there for me though. I became so comfortable and by the end of the season I made many friends and accomplished a lot as an individual. I found myself in

The story I told my partner was about a volleyball game. We were playing the Escanaba High School Varsity team. We were leading the first match 20-24 and ended up losing 26-24. Our coach was extremely disappointed in us. However, we pulled ourselves together and fought to win the next three sets. Each set was as close ass the last but we worked through everything. We played hard and left every play we had on the court. We ended up winning the game.…

“You did not make the softball team” is a sentence I heard almost invariably. I had just moved to Texas, where I was thrust into a whole new world of sports. Athletes played year round, unlike the north where sport seasons were only six months long because of the cold, likewise, the competition was unlike anything I had ever seen. I tried out for over a dozen teams, from the very best to the very worst and did not make one. Inevitably, there was always a girl who was faster, stronger, and overall better than I was. I was eventually given a choice, to quit softball and pursue another hobby or continue to play softball and refuse to let others beat me. I choose the ladder.…

We had an amazing time that night because there was a dodgeball tournament which was absolutely crazy. We didn’t even play until the last couple of games where we only played 3. We all had stepped up our game and destroyed the competition. We all thought we had lost it since I got 3 people out and caught 1 while getting hit. Knowing that everyone was eliminated Asher 1 vs. 7 had clutched the semi final round taking us to the finals. It was an amazing feeling in the finale considering the team we beat had a cheater on it and that we wouldn’t of won without Asher.…

Sitting in the locker room today, packing up my bags for the last time, it made me realize that my softball career is actually over. I just wanted to thank everyone who has had an impact on my softball career first starting with my parents, brothers, and other family members. Second my coaches throughout this whole journey. And third to all my teammates that I have had over the years. Those friendships are what got me through the tough times and great times. I am honored to be able to say I was a softball player at West Stanly for 4 years. For the ones who are still playing, give it your all, turn teammates into your friends, and always cherish each and every chance you get to play on that field. It's crazy how much time flies so just make…

It was winter season and that meant basketball. This year was special because I got to play for Davidson Day’s seventh and eight-grade team. See at our school the middles school ran through 5th to 8th. The middle school basketball teams were divided into a 5th-6th-grade team and a 7th 8th grade team. This season was different; we would play more games and different teams. Also we got a new coach and older teammates. Tryouts were rough; the older kids were picking on the 7th graders constantly. I was the only one they liked because I was good. The season got even worse. The 7th graders never played in the games and sometimes in the locker room older kids would yell at us for messing up. This was horrible to watch and be apart of.…

My freshman year, I decided to join my high school Cross Country team. When I started running, it quickly became clear that I was not a gifted athlete. I was slow and often did not enjoy the sport. When the season first started, it took me forty minutes to run a 5k. This time was appalling but oddly, it was what kept me from giving up. There were times when I wanted to quit and go back to never running but the thought of that forty-minute 5k stopped me from doing so. I stayed on the team and pushed myself harder and harder every day. When I felt like stopping, I made myself go even further. I came to practice every single day and sometimes I stayed late. On the days that we did not have practice as a team, I ran on my own. I was dedicated…

Everyday people strive for perfection, but the truth is that no one will ever achieve it. Within every task, challenge or achievement, failure is present. Most fear the possibility of failure because weaknesses are brought out and people feel vulnerable. On the other hand I witnessed a learning aspect from failure, and have a new understanding of it. Varsity football was where I faced a large amount of failure, but in turn learned many lessons.…

I have had my mind set on college volleyball since 6th grade. My grandmother made me tryout for my middle school team because she wanted to watch me do something she thought was interesting. At first, I dreaded it. I would always go home and complain to my parents about how awful it was. But, after playing for a couple months, it started to grow on me. I got a grasp on the concept of it and something just clicked. I have loved it ever since.…

If I had to pick one achievement that I have done to make my community a better place, it would be about my basketball team when I was in the high school. Since the school is a small private school, I was a co-captain when I was a sophomore, which was my last year of high school because I graduated early by taking the high school proficiency exam called CHSPE. What I did as the co-captain was asking a coach to join the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). It is one of the biggest sports league for high school students in California, and our team used to be in this league. Since our school was small, and the team was not strong, we moved to the small local league. However, in order to improve our team, I thought that our team needed…
