Personal Narrative Essay: The Boom Of The Basketball
The Boom of the Basketball

I have always love to play basketball. The swish when you make it just right, and the boom of the basketball hitting the floor “are sounds I love”. When I first started playing basketball, my mom and my couch Richard knew that I was expectational. I played with Richard for a few years, then one day he told us about this newspaper ad he saw for a team named “Eugene Fire”. My mom decided to check it out, so she called the coach, Jim. He said I probably won't make the team, but I believed I could. So I would try anyways.

It was the day that I would try out for the team. I was so nervous for the first practice because it would be new girls and the coach

I started out on the bench because I was new.As I sat there and watched the girls I noticed there lighting speed, bolting up and down the court. Then it was finally time for me to go in. I could tell the other girls just clicked .Passing back and forth and making layups. Then there was me, the chicken with there head cut off. Well it wasn't that bad . Actually the coach said I did good , but that is how I interpreted the situation . We won the game 52-20 I was really happy but that was just the begin because it was a tournament there would be three more games. We won! We won! We one! Campions we were named. We got shirts and a trophy. That one tournament in Canby was only the being to victory after …show more content…
The team manager Tony made our team crumble she took girls and left. My basketball family was lessened just like that. We continued to play even without some of are key players ,but we still managed to pull off a win.Like cheetahs we run up and down the court , like frogs we jump stop ,like giraffes we reach the top of the hoop and dunk. We are one big happy family that continues to grow . Even after the loss of amazing

“It’s not about being the best, it’s about being better than you were.” In 6th grade, my dad took me to a new basketball team tryouts. I was sitting in my room one day. When suddenly, I heard my dad call my name. “Mckenzie, do you want to tryout for an AAU basketball team, The Truth Basketball?” Obviously, I had agreed, then he told me that the tryouts were that night. Suddenly, right after he told me, I started to practice until we had to leave. Now, we had arrived at the gym, I was freaking out. I could hear all the basketball’s pounding and the sound it makes when the net swooshes. Overall, I was so nervous.…

It was winter season and that meant basketball. This year was special because I got to play for Davidson Day’s seventh and eight-grade team. See at our school the middles school ran through 5th to 8th. The middle school basketball teams were divided into a 5th-6th-grade team and a 7th 8th grade team. This season was different; we would play more games and different teams. Also we got a new coach and older teammates. Tryouts were rough; the older kids were picking on the 7th graders constantly. I was the only one they liked because I was good. The season got even worse. The 7th graders never played in the games and sometimes in the locker room older kids would yell at us for messing up. This was horrible to watch and be apart of.…

I joined MYB in 5th grade. I wanted more of a competition league after coming from Upward basketball. The first year my team was horrible and everyone went their separate ways after the season. I joined Dave Buffenbarger’s team the following year hoping for a better outcome. A lot of the girls on that team were some of my close friends, and some were not. This was not a problem as we quickly became close. MYB gave me the chance to make new friends through their league and become even closer with my old friends. With a few players always coming and going after each season, I ended up playing for Dave up until my senior year. Being on Dave’s team for so long gave me the chance to grow close to my teammates. Being with my team for many years and…

My family did not let me renounce my dream, and they helped me prepare for the next year’s tryouts by driving me to club tryouts, countless lessons, and intramurals. Daily, my brothers and I would practice in our backyard just tossing the ball around. Every day, I would improve, serve the ball further, and my confidence would grow. My dad encouraged me to attempt to play for club teams, and even if I didn’t earn a spot on the team, at least I would gain practice and experience. I tried out for four club teams, and I didn’t earn a spot on any of them, but I believed my skills were improving. By chance, I found one club was having their tryouts much later than all the others, and when I showed up, I was the only one there. They asked me to play for them, and I agreed, but they resulted to be private lessons. Every Monday, I would practice for a couple of hours with a student coach. Occasionally, I would play scrimmages for other teams. Most importantly, I enjoyed those weekly practices. In the final weeks, leading up to the school tryouts, I attended a variety of intramurals and camps. I enjoyed playing with other girls, and I enjoyed the sport. Even though I was usually the weakest player, I enjoyed playing the sport more than winning. When the time came, I was confident in my abilities and prepared to earn a spot on the…

It seemed that all my years of hard work had all come down to this moment. All those days that I would spend hours at the gym, making sure I had made all my shots and perfected every dribble move, not even bothering to take Sunday off because if I wanted to go somewhere with basketball, I would have to eat, sleep and breathe basketball. I refreshed the inbox of my email, and there it was, the decision that would make or break my basketball career. I had tried out for one of the most elite club basketball teams in Wisconsin, Oshkosh Flight 14’s team. I think I clicked on that email about five-hundred times in anticipation while it loaded. I skimmed the first sentence and my jaw dropped on my desk. The words were tattooed to my eyelids, I could…

It all started when we were 12 years old. Jovan, Kaleb, Easton and I had been best friends ever since we were kids. We always dreamed about being on a real NBA team. It finally happened in 2024. We were the top rated prospects in the draft. Going 1, 2, 3, 4 in the draft. We all got drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder who had been worst in the league 2 years in a row. After they drafted us, we got a Power forward and a good bench unit. This season was looking bright.…

Thump! My basketball fell on the ground after it hit the rim of the basket. I’m missing more than I did at practice! I thought. I shot it again and missed. I started to get discouraged; there was no way I could make it to top three! My eyes turned and saw my family in the bleachers. My mom and dad smiled. Discouraging thoughts moved out of my head as I threw my last ball. It went through the hoop with a swish.…

The past weekend was something of the unexpected. I thought I was going to be just doing something normal with my friends but it was not. One of my close friends coaches a seventh grade basketball team. They play in a private league and I was invited to come watch them this past Sunday. I went to just relax and talk to some friends who were also invited. Before arriving to the game I thought I would be more focused on what my friend would be doing as a coach. I was completely wrong. While I was at the game we paid little attention to the way my friend was coaching but rather to his team. While watching the boys play I had seen a pact of connection I have never seen before. This seventh grade basketball team had shown me what a prime example of teamwork bonding can look like.…

This game I pulled a triple double meaning I did more than 10 rebounds, more than 10 assists and scored more than 10 points. I was beyond proud of myself and all the hard work I had put in. It all was worth it at the end and knowing all season long I would continue working my hardest and give it my all coach gave me a starting position. This was the moment I first experienced accomplishment on a goal I had ever since playing in elementary, playing varsity…

The next day, I decided to not pick up a basketball ever again. Weeks passed by, Months, and still haven’t touched a basketball. My Dad came up to me one day and asked why I haven’t been playing basketball lately. I replied “I gave up on Basketball.” What he told me next I will never forget. He said “Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat.” Don’t give up after one loss, get up and work harder. To this day that quote never left my…

On our way to the final game I was scoring goals left and right to help lead my team to the championship. That day we were playing phenomenally as a team and it looked as if nobody was going to be able to stop us. The one reason why my team and I played so well together was because we were all best friends. We were a team both on and off the field. Our team was strong physically, technically, and everyone was mentally tough except for me.…
