Personal Narrative Essay: Team USA
Daleville High School Junior Madison Peavler traveled to Jamaica to represent Team USA at the Martial Arts World Cup that was held on February 25th, 2017. Hundreds of competitors were in attendance and virtually every Martial Arts was represented. Madison was the only female to represent Team USA in the grappling/jiu jitsu event. Peavler won her World Cup title in only 40 seconds with a rear naked choke submission against a tough Jamaican competitor. "This was my first time fighting internationally and I was unsure what to expect. She was hard to get down and definitely not an easy opponent. I was fortunate that she gave up her back early and that I was able to capitalize on the situation and bring back the World Cup title to my little hometown.

Leaving your country is always a difficult decision, and whoever has experienced it understands the sacrifice it entails. When I left Poland at 18, I thought I was going to be in paradise, but to my disappointment it was far from that. I had to learn a new language and work hard to provide for myself. What kept me motivated was the hope for a better future and an independent life.…

The fair is really expensive, the rides are five dollars apiece, when I went on the tilt a whirl the person that operated the ride got on without being in a seat so right before the ride ended he ran into me but for some reason I was laughing hysterically. The guy must have gotten hurt because when I went back I looked over at the ride and then I saw a new guy operating the ride. After that I went on a ride that looked like a spider and that ride went really fast as fast as a rabbit running away from a hunter, I was on the ride for seven minutes it just kept going up and…

When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. It is late evening of May 1, 2011. I am trying as patiently as I possibly can to relax in my chair. I am sitting in a heavy black-painted room in a comfortable brown chair. The chair is at the head of a long table that occupies most of the room. This room happens to be my favorite room in all of the White House. Well anyways, I am sitting in this room...alone...with nervousness circling throughout my body...along with envy...because the United States Navy Seals are currently in Pakistan capturing and killing Osama Bin Laden. I put my hand up to see just about how nervous I am. My hand appears to be shaking more than a knee bobbing up and down, side to side when they really have to go to the bathroom. I have been stressing out all day over how the operation is going to turn out.…

“Brave hearts do not back down.” This quote is special to me because I know people I would consider as brave or a hero, but my top pick would be the soldiers. We can all agree that there is much more that our extraordinary veterans go through in order to make this nation the very best. I believe in an America that offers every child access to a world-class education, gives back to our current and fallen heroes, and that creates a common sense gun law in an effort to save our loved ones.…

Samuel, I really enjoyed your post as I like hearing about other people’s family history since mine is so diverse. With your skin tone, eyes, and hair I can see why someone may say you look Hispanic. At least you take it in stride. Today, too many people get offended when someone calls them the wrong race or ethnic origin. It is really good that you continue your family’s tradition of cooking Greek and Italian dishes and I hope your children continue that. My family has been in this country so long and has so many nationalities in the mix that we have Southern traditions instead of a specific country. I do enjoy researching my family’s history. I do not have anyone famous in my family so far, but my great-great grandfather, Private John Henry Gwathney, did manage to survive the Civil War while serving under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.…

I felt this sense of fear, but I knew it was just nervousness. It caused my whole body to tremble. I creeped onto the field and pass by the fifty girls and all of the coaches. Just me walking by everyone gave me this ginormous knot in my stomach, it made me feel like I was going to pass out right on the field. I was breathing heavy, like I just ran a marathon. I was beyond nervous just to be the new girl on the field. I was scared of what the girls thought of me, and how the coaches thought I would play and adapt to the sport. I had never even picked up a lacrosse stick and the girls were passing, catching and shooting on goal: how does a new player get to there if they were two week late into the season? I was terrified I would never get to the level of the rest of the team.…
