Personal Narrative Essay: General Patton's Museum
The sun hadn't yet managed to wake up, but we had. Our family had already been in the frigid road for an hour before the sun managed to wake. Three oblivious kids in the car, not knowing where they were going and were woken up early was not a good mix, but we were to curious to figure out where we were going to care. We soon crossed the California border and our imaginations had gone to work thinking of every possibility, then my parents told their secret; we were going to explore General Patton’s museum. To put in simply, we were not amused nor quite excited. But we soon realized our car didn't stop and we drove past Patton’s museum: the car got further and further from the decoy location. We then drove past a sign that read; Tour USS Iowa

Upon our arrival at 8 AM, we met with Monique Lisa Dominguez who showed us around, and provided us with an office where we could leave our belongings. After setting up, my partner David and I approached the few people who were already in the room. We had the opportunity to educate parents ( both male and female) and pregnant women on the differences between the cold and the flu as well as on the importance of getting the flu shot. We stayed there until 11:15 AM , and we are planning on to being there around the same time for the remaining of the quarter. The only issue we encountered was the fact that many of the people there were Spanish speakers. David was able to manage most of the conversations, but he was not…

I was too inexperienced for the First War. I’m in the trenches between the borders of France and Germany. There were many soldiers lying dead on there. It was so wet, moist, and muddy that I saw many of them with necrosis and gangrene on their feet, due to keeping their foot on the trench’s filthy water. They said that this condition was so painful and agonizing that they were forced to amputate them to end the pain. Luckily, I wasn’t many of the soldiers with this infection. The bloody plane was shot down…I was sleeping dreaming about a concoction of fish and chips and my home before the war. I lived on a farm, and I had my own horse…I miss him. My dad taught me how to ride when I was four; riding would provide me relief from school and farming. Anyways, I then I awoke to a storm of fire. The plane was literally sliced in two. I think the beastly enemy shot us down. Even though they shot us clean out of the sky, I wish to thank them and show some British manners to them because this island is beautiful. It has fruit, and the sights are more beautiful than anything back home. There are even pigs on the island that we could eat. Sadly, I thought myself alone until a booming noise thundered through the jungle. I was scared; I thought it was an earthquake, although I have never experienced one before.…

When you are someone’s support system you take on multiple roles that indirectly deteriorate your self preservation. Being a listener or a shoulder to cry on, requires sacrifices that, in the moment, you do not even recognize as imposing. Voluntarily and willingly being there for someone begins with the unwavering doubt that you and your own problems cannot and will not prevail over your person’s immediate crisis. Depending on the duration of your duty, a somewhat selfish thought of inconvenience is bound to surface. But, that wave of retraction is almost always combatted by a riptide of dedication and loyalty that brings you back to sea, where all you can do is tread. In turn, the suppression of self regarding issues regularly comes with a layer of obligation and a sting of bitterness.…

He didn't seem to like the name of the museum. The “Holocaust” Museum. Just didn't seem right, ya’ know? Like they reduced it to just that and nothing else, he tried to make it seem like his opinion really didn’t mattered, but this was just their history. This was his story. Now he’s just walking alongside her, her with the fair skin that had gentle freckles the sun gave to her every now and then, bright grey eyes that had tinges of subtle brown like oak. Her hair was long, brown, and swift and her voice, sweet. She was lively and short contrasting his mourning eyes, his tall and thick stature, his blunt voice, and his unruly tightly coiled and cotton hair. He was crushing hard, but he knew her head was elsewhere, on one of the other friends…

I have never been astounded by such marvelous architecture until I laid my eyes on Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. Soldier Field seemed like a dragon, just engulfing everyone who was spectating the Mexico vs Bosnia game on May 2011. When I first laid eyes on the monstrosity, I was very intimidated. The thought of entering this behemoth marveled me and made me even more excited to enter and watch the Mexico soccer game that I was anxiously waiting for! Chicago itself is a marvelous city with hidden gems scattered throughout, like Soldier Field. The cold air of Lake Michigan stung my skin and felt like shards of ice piercing my body. Soldier Field, in Chicago, is a monstrosity of a place. Going there to watch a Mexico soccer game was like going into the eye of a storm.…
