I was traveling west on Highway 50 in stop and go traffic. As I released off the brakes in my rear view I saw Vehicle 3 (Toyota) speeding therefore she was unable to stop in time as she rear-ended Vehicle 2 (Subaru) flipping their vehicle over onto the median. Due to the impact, vehicle 3 struck my vehicle causing damage to my rear bumper.

“I DON’T CARE MOM!” I screamed at the top of my lunges. We were driving along I-95 on the sway home from my successful driver's license test. I was 16. I was normal. The radio played in the background but it couldn’t be heard over my mom yelling. This was the same crap I dealt with every day. I could have sworn that woman tried to find something to fight over: this time it was about how I should, “be more responsible” and “find a job” and “needing to grow up!”…

On Friday, March 8, 2013, I was involved in an automobile collision in my 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. The time was approximately 6:45 a.m. The account number related to this vehicle is 78811654. I was coming to a stop at a red light at the intersection of Stark St. and Liberty Ave., and then a grey 1996 Ford F-150, Oregon plate 364 EUC, driven by Alex Johson rear-ended me. Mr. Johson seemed unaware that the light at the intersection had turned red, and failed to come to a complete stop. The impact was not severe, but my car will need repairs to the rear bumper, trunk, and driver’s side taillight. I have enclosed photos of both cars after the impact, and Mr. Johson’s insurance information. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I am available Monday-Friday, 5 p.m.-10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Thank you for your assistance.…

The narrative, The Driver’s Seat struck home for me because I just received my driver’s license this past May, 2015. I took time for me to actually drive and to become comfortable behind the wheel of a car. This piece of writing spoke to me and allowed me to review some of the identical thinking points that I went through while getting to the point of taking control of my dad’s car. The story effectively walked me through the trials of spirit and mental anguish that preceded me in taking hold of the vehicle with my dad as the co-pilot giving directions. This was the exact thing the driving instructor in The Driver’s Seat‘ taught the author. The routine of how to maneuver and throw caution to the wind- taking risks- to get the author over…

It was a beautiful summer day. Not a cloud in the sky and the sun beating down on anyone under it. It was a perfect day to call over my friends and have an adventure or play ultimate Frisbee like we did almost any day. Today, my neighbor and I, Paul, decided to change things up for a change. We decided to use my homemade go-kart on the abandoned golf course, Blue Heron, behind my house. We grabbed our helmets and took brushed the dust off the go-kart from years sitting in my basement garage for years and were on our way to the long steep hills that Blue Heron had to offer.…

I’m not satisfied with my car ride; it’s too rough. For instance, when a road surface has grooves in it, the wheels get pulled in every direction. My tires’ treads seem too deep for ordinary city driving. Bumps and potholes usually send my passengers’ heads straight into the roof. When I bought my car, I asked about its stiff suspension and heavy-duty tires. The salesperson told me that the suspensions’ elements would eventually soften for a smoother ride, but they haven’t. I should have known not to trust anyone’s words more than my own instincts.…

I made myself breakfast in bed. I added salt and pepper to my eggs and used my toast to create a cheese and bacon sandwich. I squeezed the juice, the life from a grapefruit into a glass. Two months after I get my driver’s license, I get my very first speeding ticket. What a great way to start out driving, right? Well my parents didn’t think so. So, I’m driving home from school on this I guess you could call it a “hilly” road where the bumps are fun to ride over when speeding. It was all fun and games until I spot the cop parked at the end of the street just watching me. There was no use in slowing down. I knew he’d already clocked me at 50 in a 25. There wasn’t anyone on the road besides me, but in the passenger seat sat my best friend. I was also driving through a neighborhood. I put a lot of people in danger. I know the whole situation could have been retained if I had followed the law.…

Most people dream about what kind of car they want to get when they start driving. First cars are really special.
