Personal Narrative: Emma Clancy
Hi professor, I’m Emma Clancy! I am a first-generation American on my dad’s side who is from Paisley, Scotland. My mother is from Kentucky, but the somehow met in Omaha Nebraska, what are the odds? From first grade to eighth grade I attended Farragut’s public schools, but because of bullying I went to the L&N stem academy downtown, a magnet school. Unfortunately, the pressure from the amount of work and the effects of being constantly around depressed, suicidal, or anxious people, I left because I needed to focus on myself. For hobbies, I play the ukulele and hang out with friends while in school. During the summer, you can always find me having fun under the sun.
As far as work background I work at a grilled cheese sandwich shop called Tom

I wasn’t born a leader. No tragic event made me open my eyes to become a leader. In actuality, my mother enrolled me into an all-female women’s empowerment leadership program without my consent. I was not insecure, my grades were superb; I was however, an active follower of the most uninfluential group of friends every parent dreads. Being a follower instead of a leader is a very childlike trait. It takes an adult, woman or man, to step up and take charge in doing what they know is best for themselves and those who follow. When I’m not being a quirky goofball Emma Jean Bouie, I’m being sophisticated, empowered woman little miss Nadia Moffet. Ever since I met Nadia Moffet, C.E.O of The Queens Foundation and Miss North Carolina 2010, she has instilled something spiritually and mentally inside of me that has helped shape the young leader I am today. From the age of 13, I was no longer just Emma Jean Bouie, I slowly became, “a beautiful, powerful and strong beyond measure woman.’…

I’ve never wrote in a diary nor have a planned on it, but I feel that my experience should be shared with everyone. My name is Edith Goldberg. I was born 1928 in Teschenmoschel for most of my life which is a small village near Kaiserslautern, Germany. My family were farmers that lived in a small village of about 200 people. The village had a very small Jewish community… It used to be bigger, but over time people either had left or died. From what I remember I had a normal, happy childhood with my parents and sister. I remeber my family and I would be hay-making in the summer and tobogganing in the winter. My family always stuck to the Jewish traditions. Man, Those were the goodtimes. I also remembers a time that wasn’t all that good, which…

On May 12, 2017 I interviewed Lisa Newman about what it means to be an American to her. Kathleen: My full name is Kathleen Caroline Muck, which, in my opinion, is a bit of a mouthful. I don’t hate my name, but I don’t really like it either. Kathleen and Caroline each seem like names for little old grandmas that fold tissues to keep in their purse for when they go out. Having a full name may seem kind of cool and professional when you get an award or sign your name, but the moment is always ruined by someone that knows me primarily as Katie snickering and saying Kathleen Caroline in a nasally voice to whoever is closest. Also, I find Kathleen particularly hard to spell when I’m struggling to write in cursive neatly for important documents. For example, if you were to look at my temps, you would see that I spelled my own name wrong. No joke. I spelled my name K-a-t-i-h-l-e-n, and to be perfectly honest, that isn’t the first time I’ve messed it up.…

During the summer program I met many different people from various places. One person that I met who I became good friends with was Isabella. Isabella is a high school student going into her junior year. She’s from Boston, Massachusetts and lives with her mom, dad, and older brother. Her dad moved to the United States when he was younger from Argentina, and her mom was born in Italy and also moved to Boston when she was younger. The class she took in the summer program was creative writing: journalism and nonfiction. Isabella and I both have parents that weren’t born in the United States. My parents were both born in Albania, making me first generation just like Isabella is. During the spring season, Isabella and I both play softball. We agree…

As I say in the title, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Chris Hoskins. In fact, my full name is much longer, Christopher Alan Hoskins, but I commonly use only Chris Hoskins. Most people I work with, including students, simply call me Chris. I was born in in the state of California in the USA, but I grew up near Chicago in the state of Illinois. I moved to Illinois because of my father’s job. My father was an airline pilot for United Airlines, and when he first started working for United Airlines that company sent him to Ohare Airport, near Chicago to work out of their main place of operations. When my father moved to Illinois he took me and the rest of our family to live with him there. As I grew up I lived together with my mother, father and two older brothers in a small town outside of Chicago called McHenry. Our house was located next to the Fox River, and my family often enjoyed recreation on the river, including water skiing and ice skating. As I grew up I developed a strong interest in reading and music. My interest in music led me to choose to play the violin as a hobby, and my interest in reading led me to love studying English, which in turn led me to choose teaching English as a career. I am continuing the both my hobby and career today. It is my career that led me to work at Kyoritsu Women’s University, where I now teach classes in English and academic skills. As I continue to work at Kyoritsu, I hope to be successful in helping students develop skills that allow them to achieve their future…

It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner, ”Eric” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. It’s Emma, and she sounds upset.” As he came downstairs to pick up the phone, Eric was not in the best mood. He was tired and had looked forward to a nice quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Emma. Thirty minutes later, Emma’s silver Mustang convertible swung into our driveway, and Emma was leaning on the horn before the car came to a full stop. Grabbing the big coat from the closet, Eric walked out of the front door with all the enthusiasm of a man going to stand before a firing squad.…
