Personal Narrative: Eagle Scout

Good Essays
An event I've experienced that was life changing was when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. It was an affirmation of years of disciplined work and study to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon me. In scouting, I developed various moral and ethical tenants that have shaped my foundation in life. Tenants like integrity, honor, reverence, faith in God, a man's role and his responsibility to his family, and a nearly innumerable quantity of experiences growing under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America have molded me into who I am today in my very core of being. The realization of my dream to become an Eagle Scout took 11 years to obtain, so I'm no stranger to adversity or perseverance. To my memory, …show more content…
I don't believe someone should ever have to choose between feeding themselves or learning something. I had to stay the progress of my education indefinitely in order to save myself financially. In the last two years, I've managed to pay off most of my debt and I'm finally ready to resume my academic career. Now, I work two jobs to support my fiancee with two children, so my scheduling gets cramped and hectic. I think it will be too difficult to try to coordinate attending any courses on a campus' schedule in the midst of going to two jobs and the organized chaos of raising two boys. I believe that the online courses at Colorado Christian University will allow me to continue my education on my time, so I can continue fulfilling the financial obligations of running a household. I would be able to take a course online on, for example say a Sunday afternoon or between shifts at work, and edge my way closer to obtaining a degree and leave this quagmire of a schedule working double-shifts behind me. I also find it wonderful that the teachings at this school are Christian-based, as I know of the wisdom taught in the Bible. I truly believe that the curriculum at Colorado Christian University is tailor-made by His hand to help me grow into exactly who He planned me to

I have learned the value of becoming an Eagle Scout and hope to become a great leader some day as well. One might wonder what a fifteen-year-old was doing standing atop a thirty-yard dumpster, chainsaw in hand, and yelling, "Give me more! It can hold more!" During my ninth grade year I saw an opportunity to complete my Eagle Scout project, helping the Lenape Valley Church remove massive piles of downed pine branches fallen during an early March ice storm, creating an eyesore and complaints from the local community. The project I was tackling was Herculean, and I, compared to now, very inexperienced…

Journey Towards Clarity Sitting in the church pew as an Eagle Scout, listening to my Scoutmaster and other adult leaders extol my virtues was a surreal experience. How did I get here? It felt like they were talking about someone else. It seemed like just yesterday I was painting my Pine Wood Derby Car and preparing for the biggest race in Cub Scouting. I organized a group of fellow scouts to build a magnificent 20-foot bridge for my Eagle Project, which in hindsight was easy. I loved building…

Personally, I have been involved in my community since I was in the Boy Scouts of America. As I acsended through to the top rank of Boy Scouts known as an Eagle Scout, many projects were conducted. For example, I have planned and conducted my own Eagle Scout project in 2009; this project consisted of building a roof for my local firehouse. Other community service includes roadside clean-ups, annual earth day events, and fellow Eagle Scout projects. Since my community college career, I have been well involved…

The twelve fundamental adjectives of the Scout Law can often be obscured by the daily perils of life, yet I held on to these values as they echoed through my conscience.
