Personal Narrative: Defining Moments
I'm only sixteen years old and even though that sounds like a lot of years, it really isn't. But within those few years that I have been alive a few things have really developed me through defining moments. My first defining moment was when my mom got sick. I was seven years old and just got home from a vacation to mexico with family and couldn't find my mom anywhere throughout the house. I was told that my mom was sick and had to live in the hospital for a little while. My mom ended up having to stay in the hospital for a couple months and I remember having to adjust to home life without my mom. My mom used to make me dinner every night and play with me and read me bedtime stories and suddenly she wasn't there anymore. That was a defining moment because that was the first time I have ever had to learn to adjust to change and learn independence. Even though that was a difficult time for me it truly benefitted me as a person.
The second defining moment in my life is when my mom and dad (step dad) got married. I remember my mom came into my room and told me that my dad had just proposed and I just remember being so happy and excited because I liked him so much and I wanted him to be my mom's new husband and my new dad. Just a few months later we went to Jamaica and had the most

This happened at the end of grade 9 and i was mortified. I couldn't believe it had a family and friends and a boyfriend and even though i didn't have a perfect life but i did have a really good one. I felt selfish for constantly feeling sad and low, I had so much but it just felt like I was never happy. This moment is one of the most defining moments because it's helped develop me as a person. Not just depression but learning the skills to cope with it and learning to be a more positive person and even though it still affects me i've learned to use those skills everyday to make myself a stronger

There’s a certain moment in my life that really stands out to me. It was the day I went to Colorado. The day got out to an excellent start. It was my first time getting on a plane. My grandmother had told me the different ways the Navy and Air force take off. Our pilot was definitely in the Navy before because he took off going up as soon as he could, that was my favorite part of the flight. I was also thrilled that we were high up in the sky. Everything below was so tiny and we were above the clouds.…

Traveling into the Indian Territory, we were being angrily chased down by three Indians furiously shouting at us. Dashing through the thick forest, the savage Indians were throwing spears and shooting arrows that narrowly missed us. Although neither Gideon nor I was mortally injured, I did suffer from a nick from an arrow piercing near my ear. Thankfully, a group of burly fur traders approached from the side, which frightened the Indians to run away. Acknowledging that Gideon and I were inexperienced travelers in the west, they offered us protection in exchange for some valuable possessions. As a consequence, knowing that they were our best alternative for survival, we gave them our antique gold pocket watches and assumed the identities of novice fur traders. From that point on, we followed them through the west and adopted their skills for efficiently hunting animals and keeping warm in the harsh, cold weather. During one of our rest points, we approached a large Cherokee settlement located in Park Hill in which our group leader was friends with the Cherokee leader John Ross.…

Life is comprised of a series of learning profound learning experiences. On that stands out occurred last year in seventh grade. Two friends and I decided we wanted to try something new, to learn how to play basketball! We made that decision mainly because we wanted to do an activity together for the winter term, and seventh graders didn't have the option of doing the winter school play. We were very hesitant; only one of us had any experience playing basketball, and we didn't think it would be very fun to run up and down a court trying to get a ball in a hoop. Still we kept an open mind and began to learn how to play.…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

My 17th year was the year I wanted to achieve the unattainable. Just as Gatsby clawed through walls of defiance for his dreams, I yearn to reach the unattainable. Due to our financial instability, I was sent away from my grandmother, sister, and mother to live with my aunt. It was terrifying. Then again it was one of the most influential decisions made. I have become a member of Youth on Their Own. An organization that is for homeless youth, and have met some of the most caring people. Who want to see me succeed most of all.…

"Time is money" a clich that is known to all. Parents remind their kids of it, teachers preach to their students about it, and even society reinforces it with wages being paid by the hour. In such a world, technology has and perhaps always will be advancing forward in order to save the average person more of this "money". For instance, in the field of biomedical engineering, long strides or as some would dare to say, giant leaps have been made.…
