Personal Narrative: Death Of A Vietnam Soldier
Blending as one leaves the feeling of hiding inside the coal dark stone. “I’m stone. I’m flesh.” (line 5) I am as strong as the granite I am viewing but I am still just a man; flesh, blood and bone. My wounds will weep even as I try to hold back my sorrow. The sharp replication of my soul is slanted between the dark evils of war and the light of today where I am still within the battle. I have two paths, two choices, stay with the darkness of the stone or turn away and free myself from the battle inside. It is up to me to act, to make the variance.
My own identity could have easily been listed on the overabundance of names listed, on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall. “I see the booby trap’s white flash.” (line 18) The observation of Andrew

Hi Amber, great to "see" you in another class! Thank you and your family for the years of service. The military life has its own culture, but as you have mentioned the frequent moves allow you to experience numerous geographical locations and their cultures. I second the fact that lately it has been very crazy. I agree with you about it being very easy to work with people around the world. Although I think that language could get in the way. I really look forward to going over seas to be able to get the experience. This is one thing that I really can’t wait to experience in the military.…

I am a “boot” adjusting to my new life in kilo company, and corporal has recently returned from a nasty deployment in iraq. He says that he is my father and that he knows what’s best. he kicks sand at me while i am timed to see how fast i can pick up all the yellow cigarette butts he dumped on the floor to “fix” my attention to detail and remind me of my ignorance, as he yells, “you are going to war soon, and I won’t be there to babysit you!” During the deployment workups in the states, we spent weeks patrolling, looking for something that we knew wasn’t real. Digging into defensive positions and waiting the night out for an enemy we knew would never come. Spending rainy nights in muddy holes, fearing what our leaders might do to us if we fell asleep. Firing machine guns, shooting rifles and launching grenades at little green targets…. All of it was just training ops.…

In the narrative told by Specialist Haywood T. Kirkland, one understands that after experiencing traumatic events, relationships with society and others can be permanently affected. To begin, Kirkland goes into detail about certain experiences as a civilian up until the day he was drafted, experiences he claims that “freaked him out,” however, didn 't scare him yet (92). He only experiences signs of emotional distress when he’s put into situations where he has little control or inescapably—no way out. He explains that “the most fearful moment was when we got [dropped] into the wrong area, right on the perimeter of an NVA camp” (92). Kirkland continues to explain that he began to understand the emotion of fear because of the “anticipation of something happening as opposed to being in the heat of the battle” (92).…

First off, trip to Vietnam was truly a blessing. I did not expect so much of the trip until the first day I arrived Vietnam. On my first day, I got an opportunity to meet many great people who were selfless; those who cared more about others rather than themselves. It took approximately 14hours in total to arrive at hotel. Even though the plane ride was only about 5hours, since it was a group trip, it took extra time to ensure everyone is in right place. Despite the exhaustion and drowsiness, no one complained but encouraged others. I was already touched by grace of God before we even began our mission trip. On the second day, I volunteered for the medical service. There were two activities including the medical service, and house painting…

Somewhere in the Middle East there is a mom fighting in a foreign war. The gunpowder smoke coagulating in her lungs, hearing the cries for help, and not knowing if she’ll ever see her 2 year old son again. Soldiers everywhere do this every day not knowing if they are going home ever to see their loved ones. They do this because they are selfless and are heroes. That’s why an American I believe in is made possible by the sacrifices of our military.…

I was born in Iraq in a domestic violent environment. In my second grade in elementary, I and my sister moved to 7 different foster child housing. I had to move to 7 different elementary schools in one year. I was being sexually molested several times by these foster families and emotionally and physically as well. My parents finally were able to get back together and keep us somehow stable till the middle school. My father was kidnapped after 2003 war in Iraq and we had to sell all we have to pay for his ransom and release him free. We run away to Syria after we got my father back and we lived there as refugees till we came to the U.S. in 2011. Growing up in Syria as a gay man was as hard as growing up in the jungle with predators. I was being beat up and raped several times by Syrian regime militias.…

Everyone is dead. It happened in a moment, one small minute has altered my life. I always told myself life isn't fair, it never has been, but this once I ask for a warning or a sign that I would be spending my last day with my family. Everything was fine for a week after the move here, just like the calm before the storm. Now thanks to one drunk driver I'm left on a hospital bed while the nurses play cards. Talk about sympathy. That monster killed Simon. He was just an innocent kid that dreamed of being a scientist, but that dream will die along with many others. My parents, dead, the two people in the world who have loved me with all their heart for 15 long years are dead in seconds. The drunk could have hit any other car destroyed any…
