Personal Narrative: Blessing Up For College
This question I encountered the most difficulty with, I have always believed in the idea that everything happens for a reason. However, in one occurrence I struggled for quite some time to see the blessing the situation had to offer me. As I finished my sophomore year in high school, my family’s financial struggle became more evident in that my single mother would not be able to send me away to college. We made the decision that I would graduate early to be able to work full-time, ultimately so I could save up for college. As the time came when all of my peers went away for college and I stayed home, I couldn’t grasp why this had to happen to me. As the months had passed, it became apparent that there was nothing I could do about the situation.

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

When first posed the questions of how do I fit in at a college and how my extracurricular activities and experiences would benefit the college, I was not sure where to begin writing. To be perfectly honest, I think I would be a good fit on almost any campus because I believe I am adaptable to my surroundings and have a solid foundation that would make me an asset anywhere in the nation. While the previous sentence may come across to readers as egocentric or egotistic, I’m puzzled at where to begin because I also don’t think I’m outstanding anywhere compared to my fellow students academically speaking. On the other hand, it is almost a forgone conclusion in my mind that I have experienced more in my years than the majority of my peers. Also, as a result of many of these experiences, I’ve been able to get a jump start in my field of choice compared to where anyone else in the nation going into my career would likely be. Overall, I would say I have…

It was the morning of move in day. I said goodbye to my home and headed out. I passed the local shopping market and my high school where I enjoyed a fun four years. As I headed to Norman I realized I was leaving everything I had ever known. All my life has consisted of living in the same house, going to school with the same kids, and going to the same supermarkets and restaurants. While I’d like to say I have developed a good idea of the world around me by visiting so many cities around the United States, in reality the only world I’ve ever known is the same one I have spent my whole life in. I have loved growing up in Northwest Oklahoma City with the friends that have helped shaped me into who I am today, however I relished the opportunity…

It was the day that I was dreading all week. It was the day my brother was leaving for college. Since the day i was born me and my older brother have been really close. We liked the same things, hung out with the same people, and played on the same sports teams. We did everything together. What I lived in the past two years taught me that I have to be open minded and make every situation as a learning experience. Sometimes things do not go the way we wanted them to, but that does not mean that that is wrong. I got mad when I was pulled down one year, but I realize that having another year gave me the opportunity to prepare myself better for college. I was able to take courses of my interest and that probably I would not have taken if things had happened in a different way. I now know that I can face any problem with determination and hard work because giving up it is not an option for…
