Personal Narrative-Belly Restaurant
I walk into a nice fancy restaurant. I see people dressed nicely, smiling, and talking. I feel like I am on a never-ending roller-coaster, I can feel the excitement in the air. We wait here waiting for the waiter to walk us to our seats. I can hear the classical music playing, chairs squeaking, eating utensils clanging, water dripping from the sink, and birds chirping, Oh, the beautiful sounds you hear in a ritzy restaurant. As the waiter walks us to our seat I see all the glorious food they have, I have so many choices to choose from. I look at the menu I start to get so hungry. So I say to the waiter I think I’ll take a camel to go, just kidding, I’ll take a steak well done with mashed potatoes and with a side of salad and of course the drink

In March 2011, I took a few days of classes and received my hunting education certification. Looking back, the actual class time is just a blur of what not to do, but I was reminded of them when I took drivers education last December, with the what not to do teachings. I also remember being very nervous about the test, but having a great feeling when I learned I passed. That October, I remember being immensely excited to go on my first hunt. The night before my dad and I left, I had a parent teacher conference and I remember getting some strange looks in the parking lot because we had a trailer loaded with tents, four wheelers, chairs, and a bunch of other stuff…

Two years ago, on a cold Saturday morning, I prepared for my first ever track tryout. I took a shower, put on my clothes, and got into the car. On my way to practice, I felt strong physically, but I also had an undefined, jittery feeling about how the day was going to go.…

Brunch this week was at Woodberry Kitchen. Hard to believe this place has been around over ten years! Chef Spike Gjerde and chef Lou Sumpter are always serving up some some local, seasonal concoctions that folks (including myself) can’t get enough of. In 2015 Gjerde took home a James Beard Foundation award. Sumpter a Maryland native was also recently honored by Eater for up and comers in the food industry under 30.…

I remember anxiously waiting for 9:00 o’clock so we could go explore the store. The grocery store could be kind of spooky during the night but this didn’t bother us too much because we would be busy playing tag or hide and seek throughout the store. The grocery store has seven aisles. Aisles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are nothing special but aisle 6 is divided into in half by a variety of items as well as a candy box ( I don’t know what else to call it).…

I will never say that I regret going to Waffle House; I do not. It was one of the best times that I have ever had. My friends are so goofy and wild that anytime with them is never boring. I also connected with Leo, which was amazing. We laughed, cried, and talked about everything and nothing. It turned out that we had a lot of things in common; we liked the same music, books, and even paintings. Also, I found out that he was very open-minded and kind; two qualities that are very important to me. The whole night with my friends and him felt movie-like and I will never forget it. I think that it was a good experience to…

As a Chinese-American, my family expected me to help out at the restaurant while maintaining straight A's in school. But, it wasn't easy; every day, I would report to the restaurant after school and immediately start working. Inside the kitchen, I would pack all the orders into aluminum containers, place them into a brown bag, and insert packets of sauces and utensils. Burns and cuts were common due to the terrible and tearable aluminum containers. Outside at the front desk, I would answer the seemingly endless ringing phones. In many instances, customers had to wait either on the phone or at the front desk for me to find their orders on the computer, even after they showed me where it was on the menu. During lunch hours, the pressure was even…

My family challenged me to try a cheeseburger. I thought a lot because it is a kind of junk food and I do not like that kind of food. Then I accepted the challenge to change my idea about food. My first experience in eating cheeseburger was amazing.…

Last year I was prit near 375 lbs and I knew something had to give. I have tried, low fat, low cal, counting macros and everything. I always still would gain! I would eat veggies and lean meat keeping under 1200 calories sometimes 800 when frustrated, I'd still wake up weighing more. Well to be honest, I believe the food pyramid is very, very inaccurate. I sometimes watch shows like my 600 lb life, for motivation for myself, because I need it still! I was to a point in my life I couldn't walk or stand more than 5 minutes! I'd have to sit on a chair to do dishes, I felt useless anymore honestly. One day something clicked and I seen a friend who posted about her 210 lb weight loss and started to read. I was blown away! I started it and I won't lie, I went out with a bang! Made a huge chocolate cake 13x9 and we ate half of it. I canned the rest. Within the first 3 days I was 5 lbs down! I couldn't believe it, without any exercise! People say oh you can't do that, but you can! You simply have to eat the RIGHT foods! 60% carbs isn't for us! That's what was set up by a group of people who think they know everything! They don't! But anyways if you want to learn how to eat the correct macros and learn to lose weight without worry, then this is for you! Ooh you have to give up some things! But tell yourself YOU'RE WORTH IT! I know what it feels like to hurt everyday and not be able to function and go out to the store cause you just cannot walk.…

Every morning I wake up to the annoying sound of Abigael’s alarm clock and the smell of my own leather. Don’t get me wrong; I love waking up to the song, “Endlessly” by the Cab, but does it have to be at six-fifteen in the morning every day even on weekends? I mean, does she not like to sleep? I’ll never understand it. Once Abigael finally wakes up, the anticipation starts to set in. Which pair of shoes will she choose today? Fortunately for me there’s not too much competition. There are the smelly sneakers, the blue heels, myself, and then there’s the cowboy boots. I cannot stand those cowboy boots and there are three pairs of them! I understand that since I am an ankle boot myself, I should get along with them more, but I hate them. They always pick on me since I’m too short to be considered a cowboy boot, which leaves me in this odd in between group…

I could see the intricate designs of grapevines that had been masterfully carved into the light oak posts that held the entryway above my head. Through a miniature window on the far side of the room, I could get a slight glance of the steaming pasta noodles that had been drenched in luscious red spaghetti sauce, before the waitress guided us to our seats. I could feel anticipation building up as the waitress guided us to one of the most well placed tables in the whole restaurant. The light brown, cloth drapes that rested against the smooth brick wall of the restaurant grazed my arm as I passed under one of the exits outside. As soon as the fresh air whipped my face, the noticeable scent of fresh chocolate mousse cake assaulted my nose. I could feel the soft, plush cushioning that rested underneath my backside as I sat down to great relief. My eyes scanned my surroundings, taking in all the sights and smells that I could contain within myself without being overwhelmed. Of all the places to be right then, Charleston was the one. I had experienced the smell of chocolate, the taste of lasagna, the sound of the ocean, the sight of warm, crisp sand, and the feeling of being happy and glad for what I…

This is the most recent cooking video that I made. I made the cooking video around eight clocks in the morning since I needed something to eat for breakfast. I looked around the house to see what ingredients we have. I found some cornmeal and I thought maybe I can make some breakfast muffins. I decided to make corn bread muffins because it is fast and easy. From there on I decided to add some fresh berries inside to make it more like breakfast food. Once it is baked, we can serve them with butter and syrup. Later when I edited the video, I decide to put Chinese subtitle on too, since my relatives in china want to see my cooking video. Instead editing the video with iMovie this time, I tried out a different video editor called Videoshop.…

Today as I was walking into the cafeteria; there was a paper on the every door that said “Due to the incident on November 14, Cheez-its are no longer allowed in the cafeteria! Thank you for your cooperation.” Every kid in the whole grade was wondering if the paper was real or a joke. The whole lunch period, everyone was talking about the new rule and how they thought it was nonsense. The sixth graders were telling everyone different stories about why Cheez-its are abandon from our school.…
