Learning from mistakes is a key part of life. I myself have had to learn from my mistakes. Over the summer I cut my foot outside. I spent the whole night in the worst hospital, then I got 18 stitches in the bottom of my foot. It also set back my ability to play football. My mistake was going outside without shoes, now I wear my shoes all the time.…

On the day of my behind the wheel driving test I had mixed emotions. I was a little bit nervous, what if I do not pass and was getting a little bit excited, thinking of all the opportunities I had if I did pass. I was nervously waiting in the car at the road test parking area for a DMV proctor to come. While my driving instructor, Hayk was chatting with other instructors in the shade. After what seemed to be the longest wait in my whole entire life was just fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes past, an orange cone was placed on the hood of my car signaling I was next.…

I’ve really been thinking about this whole driving incident, These past few days have made me see it differently. I’ve learned that this isn't necessarily about keeping insurance rates down or keeping a good reputation, Head injuries are extremely common in car accidents and after seeing what happened to Zack, I could never let you guys go through that. Doing what I did, and driving how I used to, is a good way to critically injure myself, or someone else… What has happened to Zack has really showed me that I’m not invincible, and things can happen to anyone at anytime no matter who you are. This has really shown me that I need to be even more responsible than I originally thought. My first impressions on getting ungrounded was that I just wouldn't get any tickets or screw around anymore, but now I realize I need to protect myself as well as others on the road. I promise there will be no more bending the rules and breaking your laws and the state of Florida laws. I’ve realized there is a much deeper message in this than just paying my tickets and being grounded. I’ve come up with a system that could be used to keep me in check, and make things easier for you guys. It should also really help me gain my trust back. I might be the closest thing to hell you've ever raised but I need to learn from my mistakes and pave the way for the man I have to become, because I can’t stay a boy forever.…

How could one test ruin my whole month? My heart shattered to pieces. I almost cried as soon as I heard him say that I failed. I did not want to ever drive again and I wanted to just forget all about what I had been working towards for months. Although, my lack of practice was truly the reason for my failure and it took a lot of convincing and motivation from my family and friends for me to realize that. I soon took it into initiative and began practicing parallel parking with my dad every Sunday evening. My parents allowed me to drive them almost everywhere. Every month after February, I tried to schedule a new appointment, but there were so many excuses from the weather, to the closing of the DPS. Plus, My friend had a car herself and this was also motivation. I am very persistent when it comes to something that I want, and if I want something, I must get it. This drive and ambition helped me to not fall from the original goal. From my daily practices and daily driving, there was no way I could fail again.…

Make good decisions. Do the right thing, no matter who is watching. Those words have been repeated and instilled in my mind since I was a young child. My parents always harped on doing the right thing, and making good choices, because some decisions made at an early age can follow you into adulthood. Unfortunately, sometimes making a wrong decision only helps you to learn from the mistake. When I was 15 years old, my friend *Alyssa Brown (Pseudonym) was raped. She was my best friend and someone I care deeply about. We played volleyball together on the same team, had breakfast at the diner every Sunday, and watched movies in my basement every weekend. Like any relationship, we had our differences. At that age, many of my friends were maturing at dissimilar rates, and it was confusing to me some of the changes that were happening to their attitudes and opinions. Alyssa had an older sister *Lindsey, who was 19 at the time, and who wasn’t particularly the best behaved; she had been arrested a few times and needless to say didn’t surround herself with the best company. Alyssa couldn’t help who her sister brought around the house, and neither could I—although now I wish I could have.…

In sixth grade, I stood before a podium that stared back at my English class. This was not how I envisioned sharing my love for reading and writing; however, it was required. My palms felt sticky, and I just knew that the entire class could see my heart as it was about to hop from the walls that kept it safe. I prayed that I would not forget the lines as I recited The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. In sixth grade, reading, writing, and I started a relationship. Today, we have yet to break up.…

Life is full of risks. And not all risks are predictable. The first and the biggest crisis in my life happened a few days after the fifteenth birthday. I was diagnosed with a kind of cancer and took a year off from middle school to have chemotherapy after surgery. Fortunately, I was on the mend after hospitalizing for the first three months, so I received the outpatient treatment after that. Now it was time to go back to school. However, I had a lot of different thoughts running through my mind. I no longer wanted to take my life for granted. Instead, I wanted to be stronger and challenge myself. So I decided to go on to high school in the abroad. I persuaded my parents for six months and they finally agreed to let me move to New York! It was…

As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.…

Yet another Thanksgiving, and I was stuck in my uncle’s basement watching the Redskins face off the Dallas Cowboys. Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, and various other famous athletes all grinned at me from their respective Wheaties boxes, seemingly mocking my pain. My uncle collected them and, for some reason, had decided the bright orange boxes would be a great decorative addition to the basement wall behind the television. I remember once, when I was younger, I was searching for a movie to watch and I accidentally brushed against a limited edition Michael Jordan box. The box began to teeter, and I immediately knew that I was doomed. All the boxes began to fall like dominos to the floor. My uncle, needless to say, was furious. Thus, it was seemingly fitting that the offended boxes, now realigned on the wall, would have the privilege to witness my torture by football.…

Starting from a place I remembered as a teen, moving from a place that was warm to a place that had all four seasons; such as winter, spring, summer and fall. The First place that I grew up was surrounded by mountains. During the winter it was full of white snow, something that I was never used to seeing coming from California where all one would see was sandy beaches and the waves clasping one another. As I remember being so new to Park City, UT all I could see was the wonderful views of trees, mountains and people skiing or snowboarding. I have to say this was a fond memory because for the firs time I was actually able to experience the feeling of what winter was…

Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…
