Personal Narrative: Bands Of America
Bands of America was very cool this year! The bus ride went very well, only problem being that every bump hit would rewind the movie that was playing. Once we got there everything went very smoothly. I got to help the band moms put the hat boxes in order! Warm ups there were a lot of jitters in the air it seemed, but not bad ones. Waiting to get on the field was extremely nerve wracking. But, once we got on the field everything seemed nice and mellow, like we were back on the field at home, it just had a different crowd and background. I feel really good about the performance. We did the best we could do and our best got us third in our class! Heading to the hotel and getting to lay down and rest was very nice and much needed. The food was

One day person named tom was out camping in the woods with a bunch of rednecks. Tom brung his four-wheeler along with his camping supplies. He and the group drove out there. “Come on you old one mile an hour driving kid,” “I’m Comin and I not a kid,” Tom said. Tom was a little younger than the group. Tom was on the trail following the group's “orders”. He was out learning how to camp redneck style. Tom always hated robby, the one who yelled at him. One time when he was wrestling around with Robby’s younger son Tom slammed him, Robby’s son started crying. Then he got up and hit him with a stick on the leg. After that Tom was the one who got in trouble instead of Robby’s son. Tom was slowing down and gradually getting farther away…

On Saturday, I have attended a Pow Wow that was happening at the California State University of Long Beach. I knew what kind of event it was because this was my second time attending one. At the first Pow Wow, I was able to take the opportunity to volunteer for them and helped them out with the resting area for the dancers and other miscellaneous tasks. I also had the chance to walk around and explore what was provided and stayed at the event until the end. It has been over two years since I had gone to the first Pow Wow so I was excited to see once again the beauty and the uniqueness of the Native Americans and their culture.…

Throughout my childhood I would avoid books as much as possible simply because I never enjoyed reading like others did. When I did read, it would be because I discovered a really good series. Other than that I wouldn’t read because I never grew up with being read to, so I didn’t find it enjoyable.…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

My whole symbol revolves around an American flag because I am American. On stripes area of the flag I put the sports that I play every year, which are basketball, football, baseball, and track. If you look inside the track symbol you will see the number 400 because I run 400’s in track. The basketball is the biggest and in the middle because it is my favorite sport to play. If you follow the sports counter clock wise around the flag you will find the order of my favorite sports. I like basketball because you get to run a lot and it could get physical. I like football because you get to tackle kids without getting in trouble. The reason I do track is to travel to towns with your friends and to get the feeling of winning. I enjoy playing baseball…

Before I had even started high school I hit a very deep depression. I struggled with it for years. I felt I had no family and no friends. It was a very hard time for me. I didn't enjoy talking about my feelings or being around people due to the fact that I felt I just annoyed those around me. Despite this, I continued doing what I loved most: music. I began marching band my eighth grade year and loved the feeling of being on the field in the lights when our assistant band director would come over the loud speaker announcing the "McClain Marching Tigers and Tigerettes". It helped me find and accept who I am. I gained confidence and learned to lead and understand. It even introduced me to my closest friend whom introduced me to his friend group, giving me the first group of friends I had in my life. I've met so many new people and learned so many new skills throughout my marching career and I look forward to finishing out my senior year with the people who have been there with me from the beginning.…

A time I wish I had spoke up as a leader was a couple of months ago when a past concert band member wanted to be apart of marching band. This individual had not attended band camp, which is a requirement if you want to be in marching band. The individual had family issues which prevented him from attending. Once school started he went to the first football with us and played the show music during class. I thought there would be an exception due to his circumstances of not being able to attend. Later I found out that leadership and our band director would decide whether or not he would be included in our show. His drill spot had been written, now it was just if he was committed and be able to. I thought he deserved a chance, so I wanted to help him. I figured our band director would too. But at the same time, our…

The Disney Magic Bands are a really interesting idea. I remember my family had my siblings and I take a finance class in high school and the class mentioned that, psychologically, the less movements we have to make, the it is easier for us to want to spend money. We lose track of the real value of the money because we can’t see it and we don’t have to think about it. Now, this is a wonderful thing for Disney, as it makes customers more willing to spend money. The customer, however, also gains a lot of benefits. I’ve had many people tell me that the “Happiest Place on Earth” isn’t all that happy if you’re stuck in lines the whole time. By using the bands to better customize the experience, it can cut down on how much time is spent waiting in…

On September 3, my boyfriend and I attended the 38th Chicago Jazz Festival in Millennium Park. This was my first jazz concert. My boyfriend and I headed towards the Jay Pritzker Pavilion; its stage looked like a steel version of the Sydney Opera House. As we looked for a place to sit, I noticed that the audience’s demographics consisted of Indian, Asian, some African Americans, and Caucasians. We sat near the stage in the plastic orange seats because the grass area was extremely packed. However, this was the best thing that happened to us because we could see how the musicians were so enthralled with playing their instruments.…

Imagine hearing the opening guitar riff to one of the hit songs by the world's most dangerous band. Watching the Duff, King of Beers, McKagan or Slash jumping around on stage. Maybe even Axl Rose hitting those high pitched screams as he dances across the stage. Where are you watching? Maybe from the crowd, perhaps in the audience, or from home on T.V. Try watching it from the side stage, nervously waiting for your band's turn to take the stage. It's nerve racking! What if you mess up and sing the wrong lyrics or strum the wrong string? What if your "trusty" happens to overdose on stage again? What if the crowd does not like us? What if everything goes wrong?…

Now I am going to tell you have how I became friends with Bobby the rock. It all started one not so sunny day, when I went to youth group. My grandma picked Abby and me up, and took us to youth group. We waited for everyone to show up, then we sat around and talked like a bunch of hyenas. Then my uncle (youth pastor) told us which car or van to go in,we drove to the foam pit place, and talked about some random stuff. We were going to some place with a pit filled with foam cubes. When we got there my uncle told us that before we go inside, we would talk first. So as I walking to go in the grass I passed some rocks, that’s when I found Bobby the rock…
