Personal Narrative: Age 4X State Champion Soccer
“BACK SIDE!” I roared. The opposing team made one last run in their attacking third before the clock hit zero. Girls on both teams running diagonally and straight. Some demanding for the ball on the left side of the field, others guarding their mark like there is no tomorrow. All I see is a pool of girls in white and red with pony tails. Out of the corner of my eye a beast-like, brunette gal came storming down the field with an intention to tie the game up. An exquisite ball got played into the air, heading right towards her and myself. “Oh goodness, here we go,” I thought as I threw myself in front of the ball. I live for the long car rides to tournaments with my team, blaring the speakers to songs we probably should not be listening to. …show more content…
At age 4 I was so much bigger than everyone they told me to play up 2 years. At age 8 I competed in my first high caliber game. At age 10-13 I played on a reigning 4x state champion soccer team who went anywhere just to get challenging competition. At age 14 I despised soccer. I would absolutely dread going to practice. The new coach killed every single sort of passion I had for the game. So I took a break. At age 15 I got back into it. That summer, I verbally committed to play soccer at the University of Idaho to play D1 soccer. “It is a beautiful game” is how most people praise it. There are no set plays, no timeouts, no play/shot clock, no set score. Just 22 people on a 120 x 90 meter field. The simplicity is what got me hooked. Just knocking a ball around for 90 minutes, pretty straightforward right? I learned that there is so much more than that. Terms like: 4-3-3, switching the field, a 45 ball, side on, containing your defender, 50/50 balls, and swinging the ball made the game more complex. I live for the salty sweat of hard work that drips down my head during practice or a game. I live for the well-struck ball that leads my teammate to the ideal spot on the field. I live for the post game pictures and hugs I receive after my games. To me, soccer is like an addiction. It keeps me going. I crave it if I do not have it for a while. I can not picture my life without

That meant a kick off. We were all tense. If they scored that could be the game. Their team's kicker kicked the ball to the right of Damien who dived and caught it. We all let out a loud cheer and then fell silent as Evan, one our best kickers went up to the line to kick. If we scored the next goal, then we would win. Evan went up to the PK line. He reared back and kicked it.…

It was a frigid, windy, Friday night in October. The only light was the bright and beaming illumination of the stadium lights projecting over the soccer field. The bleachers were full, it seemed as if the whole school was there, and as a freshman with anxiety, it made it hard to cope with the fact, that I was going to be a starter for the varsity soccer team.…

Of course I ended up playing those sports, but I wasn't happy because I wanted to play football and nothing else. The years went by and I still did not play a snap of football and it was already the fifth grade where most kids have already played for years. Finally on my last plea my parents let me play football in the sixth grade. I played football in a youth league called PAFA (Palatine Amatuer Football Association), This is where I was taught proper technique and how to play the game safe. Finally, I was done with youth football, next up the big stage, high school football. My Freshman year went by in a blink of an eye, then came sophomore year my time to shine, and one of my favorite times in life.…

Starting from the first practices with my local baseball team, I was worse than all the other kids. A dislike towards the sport added to the uphill battle of getting better. My desire to go back and play soccer kept on growing. My whole family was born into the sport and I’m so thankful that I have the support from my family and friends to continue to follow my dream in playing college soccer. I believe my life would not be the same without participating in the sport I love and playing with the people I grew up with. I wouldn’t have met half the people I know now. All my teammate’s families that treat me like their family would have been just imaginary. I wouldn’t have a second family to fall back on when I need. Soccer had made me for who I am. The reason I’m so competed and driven is because of the game. Soccer has helped me become a responsible hardworking young adult that doesn’t like to fail. My never-quit…

It’s game day, and the first time in twenty-three years that we might be able to defeat out school rivals, Turpin. But something didn’t feel like it should, after all it was the biggest day our team’s season. We had immense confidence in ourselves, being the higher raked state team, we expected to win this game then make a large tournament run. Little did we know that the rest of our season relied heavily on this game. Winning or losing this game would not end our season physically, but would emotionally ruin us, ultimately ending our season. The game began with a pleasant, almost soothing blow of the whistle and ended with the blood-curtailing screech of the referee’s dagger, sending shivers down my spin. The roar of our crowd stopped and…

My soccer career started as soon as I could walk, but somehow I still wasn’t very good at it at the age of 13. You'd assume ten years of practice and a sister who'd been the mvp of her high school team would have rubbed off on me, but that wasn’t the case. That is to say, I wasn't absolutely pitiful. I was pretty quick, and I could get a good foot on the ball about four times out of ten.…

Soccer has been a huge part of my life since I was young. Ever since I can remember, I’ve joined the school soccer team when I was given the option. Of all the years I was involved in soccer, my high school freshman year was the most memorable. Due to my advanced skills, I was put in the senior soccer team, a feat quite difficult to accomplish for any incoming athlete. That year our school hired a highly experienced coach; he made our school team feel like a real discourse community. Unlike other coaches I’ve had before, his knowledge and wisdom of the game of soccer surpassed that of anyone I’ve met. From the very first day of try-outs, I felt like I was part of a professional soccer team. Running back and forth across the soccer field, my classmates and I were working hard to impress the new coach, as he was just hours away from picking his team players. Little did I know I was in for an experience of a lifetime.…

I started playing club soccer when I was 7 years old, playing for under the wing of Charley Amblo.
