“Breaking News; Two powerful bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, killing three people, and injuring more than 100” said the news reporter. This was life changing. I was in fifth grade at the time, on April vacation.
This was life changing to me because for the first time I was able to see how violent some people can be. I now saw that some people will kill and harm innocent people just because they want to, with no intention of revenge. When I saw this, I thought; there is nothing stopping someone from bombing Rhode Island or near my house and harming someone in my family. I remember hugging my mom and asking her if that would happen and she said “No one is going to bomb Rhode Island.” Another

The left fielder ran and ran. Finally, the ball came down from space and into the Blake Lindsly’s sure handed glove. Out number two. He looked at the pitcher with an expression that said dodged a bullet there. The team erupted into laughter. Even the coach joined in. Sure, the game was intense, but baseball was a fun game and it took plays like that to have fun.…

In 2008, I was a eight year old and, regrettably, a member of the Saint Joseph Cross Country team. I consistently finished in the last five runners, and despised every moment that I spent training for the race season. Even though I began running cross country in elementary school, I was never a natural. After years, I was allowed to quit. By the time I was a freshman in high school, I had forgotten my hatred of running. After much enticement from my mother - a runner herself - I joined Bowling Green High School’s Cross Country team. Halfway through the first practice, I remembered every reason why I had quit the sport years earlier. Regardless of how much I begged my mom, she insisted that I finish the season. I was stuck with two choices:…

There are many things that make a huge impact on people during their lifetime, but I think everyone can say even if they weren't alive when 9/11 happened, it still has a huge impact on them. We watched a video in class, and I was amazed at the disaster September 11th was!! The way people pulled together and the heartache that shook the nation when two airplanes crashed into the twin towers, and the threat of terrorism that struck our sheltered country had to be scary. It automatically has a huge impact on your life that you will never forget. So I am here to tell you right now that not everyone knows the planning and the time it took to create such a horrible plan. Why did they do it? Some people don't know all that happened that day and the years before and after 9/11. The video we just watched in class helped me to understand a little better what exactly happened during and before that time in history.…

This event in history affected me in many different ways. For the next few year of my life things were very hectic and chaotic and I was still in high school for part of it. When we declared that we were going to invade on the Middle East I was terrified. My boyfriend and high school sweet heart who I later married was in the United States Air Force and he was stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida where we reside. I had the fear that since MacDill was where Central Command is that there was a possibility that…

On 9/11 my mom was driving down Perryville Road, passing Menard’s, to the doctor’s office where she worked at that time. She was informed about the attacks on the radio. Unfortunately she doesn’t remember what radio station it was. At first my mom thought that they were doing a joke on the radio but then they were serious, and she was just in shock. She remembers getting to work and watching the second plane hit the South tower.…

Two days. Two days was how long the break between training for track, and training for cross country started. As a team our goal was to have the top 12 guys run 500 miles each, which at the time seemed to be an unreasonable goal. However Coach Hampton was confident that this was a reachable goal and encouraged not only the top 12 guys, but the the JV guys as well, to join in and train with the top 12.This was the summer of 2016, I had just had track state and made it to finals for the 4x8 only to get my relay disqualified because I cut into the inside lanes of the track before the cut off line. This had been our goal all season, make it to state, get to finals, and see what happens. Causing my relay to get disqualified is one my worst moments…

I was at school when the 9/11 incidents occurred. I was about six years old and in Kindergarten. I remember my dad picking me up from school, he was sad and confused looking. I specifically remember riding home in the car and my dad turning up the radio and intently listening to it. That day I did not quite know what had happened or how it would affect me, but now I can truly grasp what happened that day. Since September 11, 2001, the United States has changed in many different ways. This was the day that everyone found out that the United States was not invincible. 9/11 is like a scar on our country; America has healed, but the mark will always be there. After that, the United…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

Today, 14 years ago, many (if not all) American's lives changed forever. At first for me it was surprise. How could someone do this, why would they, who was the cause of such pain and those answer came. Then I started asking questions like what did we do to them, to make such retaliation happen. That was clearly not the most American thing to do in some people's eye. I remember being in my honors American history class and being called un-American for thinking like that and how could we, the best country in the world, do anything wrong. I think that was the day I realized that I was going…
