Personal Narrative: A Career In High School Football
While in a pregame meeting 30 minutes until the bus left, my stomach started to hurt uncontrollably.Within 10 minutes I was laying on the floor unable to cope with the pain. I was rushed to the hospital and after doing many medical tests the doctors told me I would have to have an appendectomy because my appendix could burst any moment. I didn’t really realize until the next morning after surgery my high school football career could be over. Something I had worked so hard for, taken away from me so quick and unfairly, I was enrage.. I felt my senior season slip through my fingertips. However, I still needed to be a leader for this football team., even if I wasn’t able to play. I made a promise to myself to lead through positivity, pride, and

My stomach sank like a rock. Was all of the hard work I had put in these past few weeks all for nothing? I knew my fate was in their hands. I really hadn't thought that hard about what I would do if they cut me from the team. It was hard for me accept not playing the sport that I grew up playing with…

In 2013 I find out I have tore my ACL and both meniscus at a national competition for my competitive cheer team. My mindset at this time was based all around my athletics. There wasn’t a day I could go without doing some sort of athletic activity. I was known as a adrenaline junky, and I still am. The moment I hit the mat the day of my injury, my whole body seemed to go numb; including my mind. I knew at that moment my whole way of living was about to change, and it did. Sitting in the Dallas, Texas emergency room, my mom was already on the phone with a local surgeon back home. With my personality, I don not listen to certain doctors it I haven’t gained their trust. So of course when the doctors at the ER told me it was just a meniscus…

Not being able to play football for me has been extremely hard on me. I still went to every practice and all of the games, except now I’m on the sidelines and there is literally nothing I can do about it. For the rest of the season (8 games) I had to stand on the sidelines and watch the team play, and be unsuccessful. This was one of the worst things to watch, because I know that I would have been able to help the team if I could have been on the field.…

As a four sport athlete (football, hockey, baseball, and track), I have endured my ups and downs with sports teams, but nothing compares to the adversity, leadership, and courage I had to muster up in the 2015 football season. The 2015 season looked bright for the hilltoppers, coming off three successful seasons, where I started and helped our football team win many games. I was a co-captain my Junior year and all-conference, so I was really looking forward to taking the reigns and becoming the true leader of our football team. However, the season was a disaster on paper at best. We went 0-9 and competed at a high level in 3 of those games. The day of our fourth football game, only 30 minutes prior to getting on the bus, my stomach started…

I was sitting in my freshman geometry class, talking to some friends about injuries. We were talking about how none of us have ever gotten injured in our entire life. I had been playing sports since I was in the sixth grade, and nothing ever happened. In my life I had never broken a bone. I had never even sprained an ankle. I had never worn any kind of brace, taped an ankle, or talked to a trainer about any muscle issue or pain issue. When kids would lay on the court, I always thought they were fine or looking for a little attention. My thought was that they needed to rush off the court because they were dripping sweat all over the hardwood floor, and they were taking too much time up. I used to assume they were killing our momentum when they would fall down and cry because some schools…

Good Evening Mr. Forrest, this is Sean Anderson. I wanted to send this report involving the girl's basketball coach from Northeast Middle School. Me and Jason Collins were the officials at West Creek Middle School vs Northeast Middle School. The games started at 4:45. During the second game, which was the girl's basketball game, my partner Jason Collins made a ruling against Northeast in the 4th quarter. The girl's head coach did not like the ruling and venting her frustrations toward us. She screamed" her player was not there for the foul". While I was administering the free throws I heard her screaming and gave her the stop sign signal and told her ok that's enough. I didn't administer no technical foul even though she continue…

physically gifted they may bepropositioned me. He bet me that he could either strike me out or force an out. This was a bold maneuver. Vincent knew I would not turn him down. Deciding to let him win in front of the parents, or shatter his confidence was tough. The entire team went out onto the field knowing that I would hit the ball for the reason that it was impossible to strike me out. I let him throw the first strike, and swung and missed on the second pitch. The parents joined in the action and cheered him on, with the hopes of seeing an elementary school kid strike out a high school baseball player. I came to the realization that I have much more to give than allowing Vincent to strike me out just to make the onlookers happy. I hit the…

It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line. This is the story of a night that could of well ended any hope of being an athlete, on any level, from this point on. I will be telling the story from the defensive side of the ball, due to that is where I was playing when I had five vertebrae, slightly, separated.…
