In San Francisco, I will be able to pursue my career at one of the best hospitals, UCSF Medical Center. Despite that, it’s exciting getting to meet different individuals who sparked different reactions out of me. My goal in the next couple years is to grow as a pediatric nurse and hopefully move into a bigger apartment and save enough money to get a decent car. As I reach the top of the pediatric nurse division I would like to save enough money to get an apartment or house closer to home because the distance between my family is becoming unbearable or an alternative would be to visit my family more frequently. I will like to be able to take care of my mom by taking her out to eat, pamper her, and get the essentials she needs so she can relax. However, until my goals are reached I want to make the best out of San Francisco by first exercising every day ( keeps me positive), make time for friends and family (keeps me sane), love the job that I am doing and work hard. My life in San Francisco will consist of taking care of myself mentally and emotionally, prioritizing my social life and work, and lastly growing as an individual. I want to be able to answer at least a portion of who Melissa Palmerin truly is and be able to be efficient at the things I struggle with

My mom taught me to live by the Golden Rule; do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I have lived by this rule all my life. I have never had a problem getting along with others and treating them with respect until I started my nursing career as an LPN. I started working at the local hospital, working night shift. I really enjoyed going into work, helping the patients with their needs. I enjoyed visiting with them and finding out what would make their stay better. Then one day the supervising nurse in charge of the floor took me aside and told me to stop visiting with the patients. I was thinking to myself okay there has got to be a good reason behind this. She told me the patients need their sleep and they don’t need me to visit with them and keep them awake.…

Before this shadowing experience, I knew that pursuing a career in medicine is something that I was interested in, but I never had a real experience to examine a typical doctor's life. After the first week of shadowing, I started getting a sense of what it is to be a doctor. Becoming a doctor is not something easy. Every time I went to the office, there was a big list of patients that doctor Eloy had to meet. He had to be careful about the way he acts and the way he talks with patients, nurses, and other doctor. Even though it seemed so hard at the beginning, I enjoyed this experience and I learned a lot from it. I learned that being a doctor requires more than going to medical school. Medical school is just the first step. I learned that a…

My duty as a nurse is to promote good and do no harm and respect the patient as the most basic and universal principle. According to the code, my most fundamental accountability is to the patient. In addition, it is my duty to make the most wise and ethical decisions for what is best for the organization. As a leader, I am self-aware of my values and basic beliefs about the rights, duties and goals of human beings. Unfortunately, here utilitarianism of what is best for the common good outweighs what is best for the individual. Mr. Cole has the right to leave against medical advice and it saddens me the issues they may face being denied home health care, however, it is not justified to withhold information from the physician.
