Personal Narrative: A Career As A Marine Biology
In ten years I see myself meeting my long term goal of being a marine biologist.
Choosing the goal to be a marine biologist is important to me because I find sea animals interesting and beautiful. It satisfies me because I'm helping animals that wouldn’t live without it. The relationship I have with school is that science will help me with the research that I will be doing. To accomplish my goal I would need to learn more about marine life, and get good grades in school. I see myself going to Ronald Reagan, because it's a good college prep school. Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…

I have a deep interest in the ocean and marine life, which was fostered when my family and I moved to the Pacific Coast. This interest grew further after I went on a backstage tour to the aquarium at the Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. Due to this continuous exposure to the ocean and the creatures that live there, I am focusing my education around my interest in marine life. It's for this reason that I’m majoring in Marine Biology with a minor in Chemistry. With this education, my goal is to become an Aquarist, and build my way up to becoming an ocean or aquarium diver. As a diver, I want to have the opportunity to study coral reefs, and create and implement conservation plans. In addition, I want to study sea turtles and ways to conserve their declining…

I recall being asked by my relatives: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and instead of an answer I would give them a blank stare. I had no idea how to respond. Not because there was nothing I found appealing, but because I felt passionate about too many things. I loved music, math, design, helping others, working with kids, analyzing situations and solving problems. There were to many career paths that I liked, but it always seemed to me that in order to follow one I would have to give up the rest.…

Before this shadowing experience, I knew that pursuing a career in medicine is something that I was interested in, but I never had a real experience to examine a typical doctor's life. After the first week of shadowing, I started getting a sense of what it is to be a doctor. Becoming a doctor is not something easy. Every time I went to the office, there was a big list of patients that doctor Eloy had to meet. He had to be careful about the way he acts and the way he talks with patients, nurses, and other doctor. Even though it seemed so hard at the beginning, I enjoyed this experience and I learned a lot from it. I learned that being a doctor requires more than going to medical school. Medical school is just the first step. I learned that a…

First off my main goal is to go to a good college. I really want to come out of high school with a high grades. I know with high grades I’m going to have a lot of options for schools. I would try to go to a maritime school or university to get a bachelors degree in computers or an associates in art. I don’t know which I want to go for first, I’ll decide later. I’d choose those areas because art is something that I’ll always enjoy. It’s one of those things where it’s all about you and what you want done, its fun and you have something to show for after. It’s like writing in the ways of getting feelings down to remember but in a visual form. I choose computers because not only does math come easy but it’s also an important branch. Think about how often everybody uses computers and how fast technology improves. Then I choose to become a seaman , seafaring is for the intelligent, the resilient, the disciplined, and the brave because these are the type of young people who can better prepare themselves for the hard life of seafarers. All of these will leave a lot of options for jobs and all in categories I love, but I only have to choose one then finally I decided to choose to go to a maritime school, because I want to become an officer in the ship someday and to earn money and my dream is to travel around the world. I have always been curious about other cultures and the differences between people in other countries. It would be amazing to travel the whole world.…
