Personal Narrative: A Career As A College Athlete
The NCAA consist of forty-two hundred thousand athletes. Many of these athletes have been training for most of their lives to be able to play in college. Athletes dedicate their life to the sport have no time for anything else. I have trained with the most advanced volleyball clubs and volleyball specific personal training. Coming into college I would expect the same or more intensity then I was trained with, but I was surprised by a lot of things that were done wrong. I was one out of fifteen players on Concordia College volleyball team. My coach was Francisco Casado, this being his second year that Concordia College. Being new to the program he has been in the mist of making the team his own. Prior to Concordia College he was retired after …show more content…
I have a low lung capacity due to a dip in my chest wall, called Pectus excavatum. The dip was removed four years ago with surgery. Now my lung capacity is about fifty to sixty percent. By being a middle blocker I need to be quick and have a high vertical. The workout I have personalized for myself will increase my endurance by having short breaks and fast moments. I set the workouts up by having legs one day, and core and arms the next. By setting it up this way I will be able to have a proper resting period. The ladders will increase my speed and foot work. Jumping rope and the leg workouts will increase my vertical. I kept the same workouts the same but increase the amount a little each day. By having small increases to the workouts will help you build up strength without harming your body. When I use weights in my workout it is usually lite due to the game of volleyball. The reason I would work out on my own would help the player not to feel rushed or get sloppy. It is better to be proper when working out, so no harm is done to the body. Having the personalized workouts, it would help make time to focus more on the team and not individual needs. All the players get what they need in their own

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Joe,” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. It’s Jackie, and she sounds upset.” As I came downstairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice and quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Jackie.…

To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. Because of this, I have developed a deep insight of the components necessary to be a true Pentathlete. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. With this, one like myself could ultimately…

In baseball there is an enigma of a pitch called the knuckle ball, which is very difficult for batters to hit because the the ball moves unpredictably in different directions. Often time it feels like life is like trying to hit a home-run off a knuckle ball. When this happens, When life throws us something unexpected we must learn to adapt and respond appropriately.. I learned this when first entering choir as a sophomore with the firm notion that being a bold and strong leader was always the best way to be. Life was about to pitch me a crazy surprise.…

I joined MYB in 5th grade. I wanted more of a competition league after coming from Upward basketball. The first year my team was horrible and everyone went their separate ways after the season. I joined Dave Buffenbarger’s team the following year hoping for a better outcome. A lot of the girls on that team were some of my close friends, and some were not. This was not a problem as we quickly became close. MYB gave me the chance to make new friends through their league and become even closer with my old friends. With a few players always coming and going after each season, I ended up playing for Dave up until my senior year. Being on Dave’s team for so long gave me the chance to grow close to my teammates. Being with my team for many years and…

I started playing baseball at grade 5 because of the influence of the CPBL, the professional baseball league in Taiwan.
