Mrs.Duffus Reflection Writing- Personal Narrative
As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.
When we were first assigned this project I had many different ideas of what I wanted to write about, but it took my a long time before I figured out exactly what I wanted to write about. The main struggle I had was actually starting the essay, because I had no idea where to start. Like I said previously, after I eventually got started it was easy for me to keep going. So the main challenges where how I wanted to start and finish my personal narrative, I was able to overcome these by thinking hard about which way I interpreted my essay would be more entertaining and attention grabbing.
I was able to work on expanding my vocabulary during my personal narrative to make it more interesting. I also was about to get better at my sentence structure so that my sentences would not drag on, and it would be easy to read.
I still need to improve all almost all of my writing skills. There is always room for improvement. I especially need to work more on my sentence structure and going more in detail into my scenes and characters. I also need to work on a good balance of going from scene to story to make my essays more readable and more enjoyable.
I actually really enjoyed my peer review. My group was, for the most part, very constructive in their feedback. I did not see most of the problems that my group noticed, so I was able to get better

The subject English and me have always had a love hate relationship. I love writing when I can write about stories and not write stories, but this year I learned that writing stories isn’t that bad. I am much more open to writing about myself than I was before I began this course. At first it was very difficult for me to put words on papers because most of the prompts had to be personal stories. It was something that I struggled with mainly because I am more reserved and expressing myself isn’t very easy. I feel that writing it was even more difficult simply because I had to make sure I was giving the message I wanted. It is very hard to connect with the audience especially on more personal topics. I was able to overcome this obstacle by using…

I liked the process I used to write my narrative. I first started with writing the actual event itself. I started with how it all started, where I was and the people that were involved. And after that is a reflection of what had happened and then I concluded with sharing my thoughts about what happened. After I was done with my first draft. I then added more details on the scenery, the characters, and conclusion. I also attempted to arrange the events that occurred in order so that my story flowed well. Lastly, I was able to add my writing from the Literacy Narrative Part 2 which was about the discourse communities that I am apart of and I was able to add parts of it to my narrative. The changes I made between Tuesday and Thursday were editing my grammar, adding more on my discourse community and taking out repetitive…

Peer review has helped me a lot because I got to see my paper from a different perspective. I have seen my paper so many times that the words tend to blur together sometimes. When that happens I do not notice the errors that are left or I do not see the passive voice in the paper. It is great to have a fresh eye look at your paper and give you ideas you never would have thought of.…

Ever since I was young, writing has never been my strong point. I never divulged into the writing process as much as I have completed for this particular course called writing 101. The reason being, English was never my first spoken or written language. I am comfortable with speaking the English language however writing correctly and adhering to the writing process has always been a challenge for me. For once, I never had a clear idea of structuring an essay to reach a valid point. Without structural organization, all the essays I have written so far lacked the impact that good, strong essays usually show. However within this course period, I have obtained many skills that divulges into writing a good, strong essay or any writing pieces for that matter. I began this course with very basic writing skills; now I have acquired intermediate learning skills through using pre-writing, good grammar knowledge and transition words.…
