Personal Experience p.2

As a young child I have always been the kind of person who has hoped and prayed for great things happen to me, whether it be a passing grade on a test or just hoping to do well in life. There’s a saying that “Hoping and praying are easier to do but do not produce as good results as hard work”. Well I feel that I can really relate to this because there have been many times in my life where it has been easier to just hope and pray that everything works in my favor, instead of having to put all the necessary effort into succeeding. But as I have learned throughout my life, everything comes from hard work. There is no way to deviate from the path of hard work. Being disciplined and working hard is what really determines your success in life. When I was in 8th grade I had auditioned to get into a school called New World School Of the Arts, a magnet high school. I had been prepared for the audition because of the fact that I had practiced very much. When it came time for the audition I was ready and was accepted within the following weeks. I was very excited to start high school, but at the same time I was very nervous. My freshman year started off well. I was doing well in all of my classes, and I had a lot of great teachers. One thing I noticed, was that the music curriculum part of the school was as difficult if not more difficult as the academic side. The music instructors at the school had high expectations for all there students, and Failure to meet these expected requirements would lead to probation. Failure to meet the probation requirements, would lead to expulsion. So I had realized that the school was very serious about its program, and if I had wanted to stay there I was going to have to buckle down and focus. There was Personal experience p.3 one music class that I am going to

I am a decedent of Africa, what part I could not tell you. There are different shades of black in my family and some could surely pass for white or Indian. My ancestors did not willingly come here they were brought here in chains and sold off to the highest bidder. They were slaves of the South; to be exact Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. The time-line is perplexing to me because the family history died off with the elders. I do know that once slavery was over lots of my ancestors stayed in the states that they came to know as home. Some moved around but many stayed in the Southern region of the United States. During their journey, they became farmers and store owners that prospered enough to keep their families living comfortable for the times.…

When I first stepped into Anderson High School as a freshman, I was exceedingly confident in myself. I played sports, had gotten good grades, and planned to have an amazing high school career. Freshman and sophomore year were a breeze. If I am being straightforward, I did not focus much on my schoolwork. I did what was required of me and got good grades, but I did not go above and beyond. I had always been told by upperclassman, “It only gets harder from here. Enjoy it while you can.” Now I realize what that means.…

The parent I had interviewed was the mother of a 16-year-old son who was rushed to the hospital on Christmas Eve. He had passed out while standing during a hymn in church. He had collapsed over the pew in front of him. His mother and brother thought he was “fooling around” and pulled him upright. Once they realized he was unconscious, they laid him down on the pew and tried to get a response. It was over a minute and still no response, and the ambulance was on their way. When the EMTs arrived, he was awake but he could not talk, his body was cold, and his limbs were stiff.…
