Personal Foul Rule
Two Personal Foul Rule- Cool or Drool 25 minutes into the game. The opposing team is on the two yard line. Two yards to stop the guy standing across from him to stop them from scoring a touchdown to put them over the top. It’s the superbowl. The player is blitzing the quarterback. He reaches across the line to plow through the offensive linemen. His hand slips and touches the player’s facemask. Now instead of being fourth down, it is an automatic first down plus the player is ejected. Why? Because he accidentally had a false start at the start of the game. Three strikes and you’re out, but now in the NFL it’s two strikes and you’re out. Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL had proposed during the 2015 Super Bowl that a player who has …show more content…
If a player is in a football game and has made two mistakes he is positive that he will not make another. This can be seen in a video from USA sports, as said by Tom Pellessero, USA sports reporter and journalist.” Cause tossing a guy for a horse collar or face mask seems too extreme.” (Video) This quotation by him shows that if an accidental penalty is in the question of ejection then it should not be counted. This is the first reason I believe player should not be ejected for two personal fouls I believe player should not be adapted for two personal …show more content…
The reason Roger Goodell placed this rule in the NFL was because he believed it would help make the game safer and promote more sportsmanship. “I believe that’s consistent with what we believe are the safety issues,” Goodell, commissioner of the NFL, said during his annual State of the League address two days before Super Bowl 50. “But I also believe it’s consistent with what we believe are the standards of sportsmanship that we’ve emphasized. Although it may make the game safer it only provides players with less opportunity for mistake and more pressure than they can handle. If they make two accidental fouls that don't even harm another player then why should they get punished. Since when has a player ever gotten hurt because of a false start. This rule is foolish and should not be used.

The two personal foul rule should not be used. This rule does not have any benefits and only causes a player harm in his career. This rule should not be used because a player could have accidentally gotten a foul, could have too much adrenaline going through them, and the referee will be biased in making a decision on calling a foul or not calling

Upon the release of partial video footage of the assault the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, banned Rice for two games without pay and fined him $58,000. Many felt that this punishment was insufficient and this message was continued to be reinforced through constant media coverage on the matter. This then led to Goodell revising the league’s policy on assault, battery, domestic violence and sexual assault, instituting a six-game suspension for NFL personnel who violate the policy once, and a lifetime ban for those who do so twice. Although the revision seemed like a step in the right direction, what was to follow was like fuel to the fire for the media.…

    The History Of Basketball

According to Dale Hanson’s book Basketball, the first of these original rules was that the player could throw the ball anywhere with one or both hands; the second rule was that one may hit the ball anywhere with one or both hands. The third rule was that players could not run with the ball, and the fourth rule was that the ball was to be held in between the hands. The fifth of these rules explained that there was to be no fouling, “shouldering, holding, pushing, tripping, or striking in any way” (66), and that a second foul could result in the player being banned until another goal was made. The sixth rule expressed that hitting the ball with a fist would result in a foul, and the seventh rule said that three repeated fouls from the same team would result in a point for the opposing team. The eighth rule determined that a point would be scored when a player shot or hit the ball into the goal from the ground. The ninth of these rules stated that after the ball was knocked out-of-bounds, the ball would be thrown in and only played by the player who caught the ball. Rules ten and eleven pertained to the umpire and referee. The umpire had the ability to disqualify players whereas the referee determined whether the ball was in-bounds, decided to which team the ball belonged, and also kept track of the playing time. The twelfth rule expressed how long…

At this point in time, there is not enough evidence to answer the question of how successful the NFL concussion protocol is. The statistics regarding concussion incidences in the NFL provides outsiders with inconsistent data. There is no clear pattern of steady increasing or decreasing rates over the course of multiple seasons. These results seemed to support the evidence that not all concussion present the same way. This variation in clinical presentation might be an explanation as for why some seasons had a drop in concussion rates. Even though a player might not show drastic signs of a concussion such as loss of consciousness or changes in gait, it should not be assumed that the player has not sustained an…

This time there was actual evidence and proof that he beat his girlfriend up. His girlfriend had bruises and scratches all over her body. Because of that the NFL suspended him for the first 10 game of the 2015 NFL season. it was then switched to the first 4 games of the NFL season. Why? I don't know why. The NFL is just trying to protect their players and make up for their cases. The big problem with the NFL is how they're handling this situation. They can be more involved and look at the pictures to decide that he should be suspended the whole year. Instead once again they just try to brush off the situation and act like once again everything is…

One rule that has been changed this season is when a player loses his helmet, the play is immediately whistled dead. And now during the field-goal the defense cannot position any player on the line directly across from the snapper, who is considered defenseless. While NFL is actually concerned of the players health risks there are other sports who don’t do much about the health risks. UFC is an american mixed martial arts sport. UFC allows kicks to the head. Being able to kick the opponent in the head is ridiculous. A fighter on the receiving end of a knockout has been concussed. A concussion will have a negative long term effect on a person’s health, yet we so often hear of a fighter being “okay” after being knocked out. The rules of this sport should be modified immediately because lives are at risk. It shouldn't matter if the “sprite” of the game is changed, the lives of the athlete matter…

The new rules in the National Football League are changing the way the game is being played and the way it affects the players. One of the many ways it affects the players is benefiting their health, and that’s why most of the new rules are added into the NFL. There is an average of 128 concussions per year and about nine concussions per week. There are positive ends and negative ends of the whole situation that can make the game boring for the players and also the spectators. This also makes the game safer for the players in their long-term life from their kids to their own health. The NFL could be changing for the better, or for the worse of it.…

Rather than fines and later game suspensions, the NFL should enforce in game benching. This rule would force a player to sit out for the rest of the game if they gave an illegal hit. This would make coaches much wearier and force them to coach their players about legal hits. The NFL should also do more than just punishments of other players but they should speak with sports networks that often show these illegal hits in their top plays. Sportcenter on ESPN is an example that has a segment in their show called “SC Top 10”. Many time illegal hits have been shown on this top 10 because they are glorified by fans and considered jaw-dropping. The NFL has worked with these networks about fans that streak during games, so they should work with them on illegal hits. By doing so these hits won’t be given much attention and eventually lose…

“Pro football is like nuclear warfare. There are no winners, only survivors.” -Frank Gifford. Football is a full contact sport, so it is not supposed to be safe, and no one ever expected it to be safe. Recently the effects of countless head injuries endured by players many years ago had just started to surface. The NFL has started to attempt to make professional football as safe as they possibly can without ruining the game. The majority of the rules the NFL has in place are necessary when it comes to how the game is played and maintaining the safest environment on the football field for the players, however some of the other rules being added to the rulebook are arguably unnecessary and truthfully ridiculous. Players are more often than not…

Inevitability is the strongest stance that the leaders on the National Football League have against the concussion controversy. Football is one of the most barbaric, brutal sports played in America it is a high contact sport that is known for the big hits during crucial moments in a game. Because of the nature of the game there has always been protective equipment that the players are required to wear, one of the most important being the helmet. Players are signing contracts with various teams knowing that they are involved in a contact sport and that there is a guarantee that they will be hit. (Rovell) There is no way to stop a player from the opposing team that is running at their full speed to just stop on a dime and not make contact with a player, it simply goes against physics. Rules have recently been put in place fining players for helmet to helmet contact but you cannot knock out the contact entirely without changing the…

Doctors proved that, “Recent studies have shown that head injuries sustained by NFL players can eventually lead to debilitating, chronic brain diseases such as dementia” (“NFL Head Injuries). This is a problem because the NFL isn’t doing enough to protect their players. Yes, the players do provide entertainment for everyone, but if the NFL keeps being careless many franchise players won’t be able to play. NFL players should be better protected by the NFL so players don’t develop brain disease, and won’t have to get sidelined during games due to concussions. Doctors researched and found out that, “A total of 87 out of 91 former NFL players have tested positive for the brain disease” (“FRONTLINE”). This shows that the NFL doesn’t protect their players enough. Only 4 former NFL players out of 91 weren’t diagnosed with concussions. The NFL needs to take better care of players so this doesn’t happen as often. Although brain diseases due to concussions are a tremendous problem, one thing that is much worse than that is a player's chances of getting another concussion. Once a player suffers their first concussions they are more likely to develop a concussion. “Studies show, after the first concussion, the athlete is four times more likely to suffer another” (“Concussions in Sports”). This is very important because as players get more and more concussions. Eventually they will develop permanent brain damage or they…

The NFL has banned head to head hits for almost 4 years now, and hits to the head are also illegal. NFL has instituted penalties as well as fines for players that don’t cooperate with such rules. This year players that commit unnecessary roughness penalties will also be ejected from the game with a second penalty. The League realized most of the concussions were coming from kickoffs. They pushed the kickoff line from the 25-yard line to the 35-yard line last year. In doing so, more kickoffs went past the end zone and resulted in touchbacks. This year the league went even further, teams that take a knee in the end zone can start on the 25-yard line. So why would a team run the ball out of the end zone if they can just start at the 25? Well kickoffs have decreased substantially since this rule. When a concussion did occur, each team had a team doctor that would determine if the player was fit to play. This year the league has doctors in every game that are independent of any team to identify if any player has a concussion and go through proper concussion protocol. These players also must sit out for 7 days following a concussion per NFL safety rules. The NFL is still hoping to improve even further as injuries play a toll on people’s…
