Personal Essay: What It Means To Be A Good Writer
Good writing to me means knowing what you are doing. By this I mean you know how to use good grammar, punctuation, etc. I think a good writing piece will also have a noticeable start, body, and end. You know you have written something well when it clearly makes sense and there aren’t errors. I am taking College Prep Writing because I want to be prepared when I go into college I want to be prepared for the teacher who will pick out every error. I want to keep my grades up; it has always been a personal goal of mine. I also just want to be a better writer in general.
Writing will be in my life forever. Short-term wise it will help me in high school and also while I’m taking college classes in high school. Long-term wise it will help me in a couple years in college. I plan on having about 8 years of college so it will really help me through

I like to write so that really keeps me motivated. I also try to be really good about looking over my papers; especially reading them out loud helps pick out the errors. Some of my weaknesses as a writer are I’m not very good at making a start or an ending; they usually just get jumbled up with the rest of the paper. I also feel I am not very good with commas.
I expect to learn a lot from this class considering how hard everyone says it is and the expectations of it. I expect to learn a lot new things about grammar that I do not know yet. Also better ways to write, like defining your beginning, middle, and end. I expect to learn a lot of new punctuation. I expect to grow a lot as a writer and I assume I will. I think with the first quarter being mostly lessons I will learn a lot.
My role in this class will be a very expectant and excited learner, meaning I am expecting to learn a lot and I am excited to. I expect I will need to work hard in this class and use my time wisely. I expect for my teacher to teach me new things and get me prepared for the real world and

I have attempted to do this before, but because I have never had a class that focused so much on writing, it has been difficult. I feel that this class will be a good one to practice those skills in, as I will have many writing opportunities as well as many people who will aid me. Next, I would like to improve my grammar and learn the more intricate details of grammar that I do not currently know. My last goal is to learn what wording and writing style to use when, such as who merits a more professional style and when my writing can be more…

I don't have much to say about writing for myself. Writing doesn't mean much to me. I am not a writer. I am an orator. However, writing does mean something to my wife. I love my wife. She loves to write. She spends hours a day writing. I watch words flow from her fingertips as she writes page after page. She doesn't let me read much of what she writes, but when she does, I can see the passion and the joy that she has for what she writes about. I wish that I could write with such a fire.…

I always start to work on my writing project with thinking about what is my position about the subject or topic. After that, I try to brain storm and bring my thought on a pepper. This will help me to have a concept and base that latter I can add or subtract necessary sentences to the pepper. I like to when I use writhing application like word process because it helps me to correct some of my grammars issue as well as it does help with correct spelling. “You can work for two hours trying to get a paragraph “right” and discover it’s not right at all. And then give up.” (Elbow 14) This is exactly how I have struggled with all of my essays. Particularly, staring at a blank paper, I cannot think of anything to write because my mind is empty. In addition, it is so hard for me to push myself to write a stream of words. Therefore, I am definitely not a writer because I do not like to write, not have writing passion, nor reading hobby.…

The first goal, and reason I took this class was is it fulfilled an requirement for graduation requirement credit that goes toward my Bachelor of Art degree. My advisor advised me to get my only freshman class out of the way before I dive into art classes in order to fulfil my general education requirement. I listened to her, and I am glad it feels good to have that class behind me. The was organization I lacked in my writing before this class was, and missing tiny mistakes in grammar and sentence structure. The only way to improve this is writing more and I hope to improve even more by taking even more writing classes. The goal of getting better at writing. I set for this class is not necessarily reachable unless I write constantly everyday. The only way to get better at writing is practice. If I would consider writing something different during writing 123 I would have written a paper on Misty Copeland, she fascinates me as a…

Lacking experience in writing and reading, English is my most feared subject. It is the one and only vulnerable spot in my otherwise invincible academic armor. I hate writing and I despise reading. Other than magazines, I cannot recall reading anything since "The Crucible" which was a teacher assigned book in my sophomore high school English class. Not that I read a lot before that, I don't remember reading any books in my middle school years neither. Now, with this writing assignment since a long time, my brain feels like an old rusty engine of an 81 Porsche cranking up for the first time in years, readying to compete in the English 1A heat.

My parents and my favorite math teacher always told me that I'm a very bright individual and my accomplishments in other subjects prove that. I approached and conquered the subjects of math, science, and history like a paladin in gold, yet faced with writing, I would coward in fear. To me, writing equals to nothing more than stress and frustration. A useless hassle and senseless boredom which I thought was too stupid to waste effort on. Therefore I have shied away from this department for as long as I can remember and focused all my energy toward the areas I have strength and faith in.

The writing compartment in my brain is very restricted. I lack flexibility in the use of words and phrases. A typical sentence of mine, starts with "I", "It", "Because", "The", "But", "Therefore". It is extremely difficult for me to think of new ways to begin sentences or use sophisticated sentence patterns which I see in other people's essays. But when it comes to grammar, I am extremely proud because there are usually no corrections on the essays my teachers hand back, or maybe it's because they're too lazy to correct them.

When I'm actually writing, I write as fast as a turtle can crawl. A 2 page essay usually takes me around 6 hours to finish. My teacher once told me to use a process called brainstorming which I tried…
