Personal Essay: My First Trip To America

Being born in America is a privilege. This hit me when I took my first trip to Nigeria. As I exited the plane from a 16-hour flight, I could barely feel my legs because of how long the trip was. Everybody was so excited to leave the plane to see how Nigeria looked like. Don't get it twisted, I was excited too but I wasn't in any rush. As I finally ran out of the airport, I just remembered seeing people walking all around and looking at the new tourists that had just arrived. I was so excited to start this new adventure. As we were driving down the rigid, narrow road to get to my house in the village , we passed by so many people that looked sick or just hungry. Seeing them made me appreciate the life I have in America. They have to walk miles
Seeing them in pain makes me want to appreciate the life that I have here on earth. After seeing what they go through I learned how to not take life for granted because we could easily be in their situation one day. Being with them changed my whole view on the world and how we are living. My family in Nigeria really don't have much, they have to make something big out of nothing. They have to learn how to feed their families with only a little amount of money by eating small amounts of food so that the food that they buy would
This experience affected me a lot because my parents are both Nigerian, so it hurts seeing other people like me in that much pain because they have to live off of little to no food and they are constantly getting sick and can't afford to go to the doctors. When I see them, I could tell that they are struggling but they are still strong to carry on. Seeing their strength makes me never give up on what I'm are really passionate about because it is going to get better soon. The thing that makes me happy when I see them is that they are still smiling through all the pain and the ache that they go through every
