Personal Biases In Counselors

The first theme that I took away from my readings is that as a counselor I need to consider a persons culture. Rheam pointed this out in her interview, and I think this is a very important subject. It is easy to become wrapped up in our own biases, and judge based off of what we’re told, and hear from the media. After 911, I felt that people where wrong to go on an attack against all Muslims; however, I found myself reacting a certain way towards the stereotypical looking Muslim. Although I knew in my mind that all Muslims were not terrorist, I still managed to judge, and react negatively.
