Dear parents and students,
We are pleased to announce the return of The Great BSB Spelling Bee, a House competition for KS3 students which will be taking place on Friday March 29th from 1:40 - 3:40 in the Duke of York Theatre. We would like all students to have a go at preparing for the competition by looking over and practising the words below. Obviously, some students are better at spelling than others but all will benefit from the vocabulary they will gain. The teams will be selected by House captains in the upcoming House Assembly on Monday February 25th though all students will have further opportunities to participate in the competition.

Spelling Bee Format
Each house will have a team of 5 top spellers chosen from across years 7 to 9.
Each participant will be required to spell one word from each section. They will be given the word, its meaning and a sentence giving the context.
They have 20 seconds in which to answer. They are allowed to ask to hear the question again. Their first answer is the one which will be taken.
When they spell a word incorrectly, they will lose a life. They have 3 lives and will be eliminated from the competition when they lose all three lives.
The competition will continue until there is only one student left.
Exciting prizes will be awarded to the top three students and a house award to the house with the most words spelt successfully.
There will also be a range of word related activities for all the students present to take part in and win points for their house.
Word List
Only words from the following list will appear in the BSB KS3 House Spelling bee though they will not all feature. They are all useful words for students to know and spell and many have already been featured as ‘Words of the Day’ over the course of the year. Please find some time to go through the list and check any words you don't know. Students may find the "Look, Say, Cover, Write,
Check" process helps them
