In the Greek Story, of The Clash of the Titans Perseus and his mother are ordered to be murdered by his grandfather, but a fisherman saves him; additionally, Perseus obtains Medusas head, therefore saving his mother from marrying the king. However, in the movie Perseus saves a princess from being sacrificed to the Cracken. There are many differences, as well as many similarities between the movie and the Greek story. Comparing, the movie and the story there are a few similarities that they share. For example, in both versions Perseus obtains Medusas head. Perseus also meets the witches that share one eye; he also grabs the eye to obtain information from them in both the movie and the Greek story. In both versions of the story Dicty saves Perseus and his mother, also Dicty marries Perseus’s mother. The movie version didn’t follow the Greek story to the point, but it did take some ideas from the story. …show more content…
For instance, Perseus falls in love with two different people. In the movie he falls in love with Io and in the story he falls in love with the princess. Another difference is in the movie his mother dies and in the story his mother lives happily ever after. Additionally, in the movie there was a creature called the Cracken, while in the story there was not. Many differences were used in the movie and the story, making both interesting. In my opinion, I believed the story version was better than the movie because it had an easier plot to follow. The story version was also more interesting than the movie. Another reason the story was better because his family lives in the story and it has a happy ending to it. Both versions of “The Clash of the Titans” were interesting, but I preferred the Greek version more than the movie

Now in order to compare the two we must first explore what the movie and story are both about and the story each one follows. The Iliad starts 9 years after the beginning of the Trojan War with the Achaean (Greek) army raiding the town of Chryse and taking two women, Chrysies and Briseis. Agamemnon claims Chrysies and Achilles claims Briseis. Neither however counted the fact that Chrysies’ father, Chryses was a Priest of Apollo. After Chryses offers a huge reward for the return of his daughter and Agamemnon refuses he then prays to Apollo who in return sends a Plague upon the Achaean camp. Agamemnon consults the prophet and learns he must return his prize but in return he demands Briseis. Once hearing this, Achilles refuses to fight any longer in the war and holes himself up inside his tent. Achilles filled with his own rage and stupidity, asks his mother Thetis is ask Zeus to join the side of the Trojans, the Army the Achaeans are fighting against. Zeus complies and starts to bring his rage down upon the Achaean camp.…

The main characters are Odysseus, from Homer’s, The Odyssey, and Everett from O Brother Where Art Thou, directed by Ethan and Joel Coen. Though O Brother Where Art Thou, is based on The Odyssey, the two share many similarities and differences, such as the characters’ encounters with others, conflicts faced in the stories, and characteristics of the major characters.…

There are many similarities and differences between the original Clash of the Titans movie and the book. Also, in both the movie and the book Perseus goes to Jappa although in the story Hermes helped him and in the movie a man named Amon helped him. One thing in particular that the book does much better is making use of complex metaphors and themes, such as: the river for life, and oneness with nature, that string themselves together as you turn each page of the book, while in the movie the metaphors and symbolism are represented in a much different way through picture. In the book, both themes regarding the river are very vivid and clear, as they use strong imagery of nature to draw pictures in the minds of the readers. In the movie both themes are represented and referred to much less because of the lack of narration.…

Though the similarities may seem to be over weighed by the differences they are very accurate. The main characters in the story are Beowulf, Grendel, Hrothgar, and Grendel’s mother. These are the same for the movie. Beowulf cuts off Grendel’s arm while he is fighting him in the book. The same goes for the movie, with Beowulf cutting off Grendel’s arm in a fight. The people both in the book and movie celebrated the death of Grendel by drinking, they also hung Grendel’s arm for all to see it. Beowulf kills Grendel and his mother both in the book and movie. These similarities may seem like the only thing needed to compare a story to a movie but you also need to contrast it using the differences.…

    Hercules: Movie Vs Myth

The movie and the myth of the story of Hercules were in a plethora of ways different. From the very beginning the two were extremely different. Even within the first 10 minutes of the movie, there were already clear differences that were shown more and more as the time went on. The movie version of Hercules had little to nothing in similarity to the myth. The only real comparison that could be made is the use of the names in both and the fact that Hercules had incredible strength. From even the smallest details, the two were greatly unalike. For example, in the original myth there were nine muses, but in Disney’s version they had 5. Another outstanding difference was the fact that in the myth, Hercules was the son of Zeus and a mortal by the…

Not only is the way emotion is represented in contrast in these two epics, but the emotions used and emphasized are also different. The Aeneid is based upon the ideas of empathy and based around a character that represents love and piety while the Odyssey is based around a hero of battle and logic. This helps to symbolize the transition from a culture based around sound ideas of logic to a culture that becomes more open to human nature and its sympathies. The Roman culture was far more empathetic and subjective than their Greek counterparts. This style of narrative creates a much closer bond between the character and the reader than was presented in the Odyssey (Brooks 9). The Romans valued a hero who was inspired by his heart while the Greeks…

Each one wrote their stories based on a certain theme or understanding of the demi-god. As Joshua J. Mark states, “…If bad things could happen to a hero like Hercules, they had nothing to complain about regarding the disappointments and tragedies in their own lives” (Mark 1). Heracles’ story provided the ability to be relatable amongst the ancient Greek audience. His constant battle with the obstacles Hera threw at him made him a resilient character. A quote by Ernest Hemmingway shares that he symbolized “A man may be destroyed, but not defeated” (Hemingway 1). Hera may have caused a him to suffer emotionally, but his mental toughness pulled him through. His perseverance through adversity created his persona of an influential figure to those who needed a sense of calm while facing a storm. The author wanted the audience to realize this, thus showing them that it is possible for one to fight through anything life throws at them. The significance of this message proved to be great, because it would later be passed through many generations to come. The influence of the original author’s message affected the way the Disney writer’s shaper their re- telling of Hercules’ story and meaning. Disney wanted to get a similar message across, but would adjust the story line in order to allow their targeted audience to fully comprehend the message. The writers removed many distractions and flaws of the original Greek myth carried. For example, Disney deleted the true story of Zeus’ infidelity. They told a different story of his parental roots by making Hera Hercules’ biological mother in the movie. The topic of infidelity would be a mature topic that’d be unfit for the young audience Disney caters to. In addition, the director of the movie’s view of the world is a simpler version of the interpretation by the author of the myth. The Disney author viewed the world as a challenge…
